Funny you mention that actually. One of my relatives has an Epic and they too complained about it after the 2.2 update! They said they liked it better when it was on Eclair.
I'm tierd of ppl sayin the epics screen is will good. Touch wiz does not have anything on HTC sense. Period. Samsung phones suck. The company doesn't even back there devices. And when they do its shitty updates. Epic just recently recived froyo,witch is pathetic.the evo will be receiving gingerbread with the launch of the evo 3D. Honestly,I'm impressed the crappy epic can even handle Android 2.2 even tho most phones that were updated turned into a brick.

These phones update to fast for me! I agree though, I can't believe it took the Epic THIS long to update. Others might be okay with it though.
That's sad, go and get a Samdroid or Cyanmod update, it's better and it comes with new and better features, problem, it can't run HD, but i debut that matters.
I take issue with everyone saying that the Epic is in any way better than the Evo. To those of you who do believe that any galaxy s is a "flagship for samsung", have fun with 2.1 for the rest of eternity, in all its glitchy, freezing, crashing glory. I wish I could like these phones, but they just get so BORING! The iPhone gives you a shit ton of awesome apps to play with, and android market sucks soooo bad. @Davidwilson1212 I'm starting to feel the same way actually. I follow the updates and they are all the same except for maybe processor and a couple of other things. It's always 5 or 8mp camera, 800x480 screen (except if you are lucky with the 856x480 screen), Snapdragon processor for many of the phones. It's like, "come on! I could care less about your darn 800x480 screen! Give me retina please! Give me a darn gyroscope!). I agree with the market. I loved it until they added the 15 min return.
@canadia7x Yea, I cant wait until I can get an iphone. Seeing all the new android phones gets me excited for the next iphone. Android is cool and all, but It amazes me that even the youtube app sucks compared to the iphone when google owns youtube.
@Davidwilson1212 Agreed. I don't understand why companies don't focus on skinning and improving the apps instead of giving us dual-core processors for a phone with 3 hour battery life. I mean, it's really awesome and that's why I got the EVO (since it was unique at the time), but from what I see, Apple focuses more on quality over quantity. I'm not saying that Android phones are cheaply made, but I do hear many "fragmented" complaints as opposed to the consistent complaints with the iPhone.
@acrh22 Hi, the video is a joke. I HAVE an EVO since it worked better for me than the Epic. I made this video since I used to be the moderator of the Samsung forums down at AndroidCentral. The Epic's launch was pretty late so to spice things up, I made the video and challenged the EVO moderators to make a video to counter this. That never happened though, so Epic owners can still enjoy. Laugh every now and then. Both phones are great, but the EVO's the one I chose.
both the evo and epic are amazing. until my dad got an epic and i saw it, i loved the evo more than any other phone. i really really want to get an epic but my second choice will always be the evo or the moment
@navalwater123 They are both so good, I really doubt one could go wrong and make a serious mistake. It really comes down to preference. I have access to both so it is really nice.
not funny. Epic<Evo....graphics? seriously? we have xbox and ps3 for that. Come on, its a phoonnnnnnnneeeee. If you are that worried about gaming on a phone, then you have problems. The screen is better on the Epic, but its smaller, but the Evo screen is sharp, and you can only tell the difference when you put them side by side. I lovvvve my evo, root it, get rid of sense and you'll never look back. CM6 on the evo is the greatest thing ever. Im just sayin.
@nrmc784 IMO the Evo is the best phone I have ever owned and will not get rid of it. I rooted and installed Fresh and am quite happy with that. I want to get CM6 on it, but I've been a little lazy lately lol :)

@canadia7x I wouldnt recommend it since u already have 4G and LTE isnt going to be available until next year with a lte handset so i would wait till next year when LTE is better and Verizon has an LTE phone
@kazper333 I won't be switching to Verizon until maybe a year to year and a half from now. The only reason I would is because I'm moving in the summertime and Sprint's service is not nearly as good as Verizon's there. However, I still won't switch until my contract ends.
@zionistboy You can install Swype on the Evo, you can do DLNA using TwonkyServer (DLNA is Wifi-based), it has a bigger screen, dual LED flash, both cameras are better, and it FEELS like a premium device. Plus, HTC supports their phones long after their shelflife, unlike Samsung. And to top it off, all at $50 less than the Epic. I was going to buy the Epic but I'm so glad I made the right choice and got the Evo. So what if the Epic has a better GPU. It's a PHONE. The Evo is better at real stuff.
When it really comes down to it, it all depends on what you need on your phone. Keyboard and Media? If you have the extra $50, then go ahead. Want Sense, a bigger screen, and a more tablet-like phone? Don't have the extra $50? Go Evo. BTW the framerate cap was removed. Both phones are excellent - look at your needs. All the other things you want can be loaded on by rooting.
@jaymoneyman100 to be completely onset, they're both equal in a way. I really think its down to personal preference. I liked the Evo better, but the Epic does outperform the Evo with anything to do with graphics.
@canadia7x Yeah, but Touchwiz adds almost no functionality to Android whereas Sense adds and improves on a lot. So what if it has a better GPU? Both phones have bad batteries, so 3D games are out of the question. You don't need more than an Evo to play Angry Birds (for example). And like I said, the Evo adds features where they really count; a full-screen web-browser, a better dialer, better camera, etc. Overall, I just feel like HTC builds very solid devices and Samsung...abandons theirs.

Ok people. Prepare to be punched in in the ovaries about how the Physical Keyboard actually makes a huge difference as a business phone. You can text, type, game, etc. without taking up Any BIT of your screen. 4.3"? ..pfft..say hello to 4" without any Screen clutter. ^^
@Dredghill Well now, I've had no problems with a 4" screen, let alone a 3.5" iPhone screen. 4.3" may seem huge, but it doesn't make a difference when you're performing daily tasks. BTW, the keyboard is a nice addition, but not too necessary. Suit yourself, your opinion.

@Panofobia It's called insurance. SAMOLED is a trademark of Samsung and they will never run out at this point because only their phones use it. I used an EVO this week (after bringing mine back to the store) and I just didn't care for it anymore. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Although, you don't really have an excuse to use criticize the Epic if you only held it for 2 seconds. I modded mine to look like an EVO and it still has more options.

AMOLED is not SAMOLED and there have been no problems producing Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode screens as this is Samsung's patented technology and it's currently only used on the Galaxy S phones and will not be used by another company for a while.

Uhhh...the epic runs Touchwiz 2.5....not 3.0. Do your homework. ^_^ I also like how you talked a lot about the epic being soooo fast. They're both 1 ghz so that's moot. I think they're both great phones, just feel the need to keep things accurate.
@aarodynamik Actually, it is 3.0. To confirm this, I checked the system dump for the Epic and everything is there. Samsung just hasn't enabled it because of the landscape orientation. The epic's processor is far superior to the EVO's. Just because they're one ghz doesn't mean anything. I've owned both phones and ran benchmark tests on both to confirm this.
@canadia7x ohh alright then. Perhaps it has Touchwiz 3 on board. And which benchmarks did you run? I agree that the Epic has a better graphics chip. But as far as processing power, I don't think the hummingbird is any better than the snapdragon. Unless you're talking about a Linpack test, it's probably just better graphics.
@aarodynamik ran the top 3: linpack, quadrant, and neocore. You're right though, but I think the Hummingbird slightly edges out, but of course, why does it matter when you have root, memory management apps, and everything else good about Android? Both the phones are so good, that it's really impossible to go wrong. The only difference: keyboard or no keyboard: your call :)

@eddieperez100 That was a different guy. This video was made mostly for the people at the AndroidCentral forums. We are Epic 4g users, but I wanted them to have a laugh as we had to wait a REALLY long time for the phone to come out.
another thing is that I think that samsung did a great job with the UI. The only problem I have so far; and remember I've only had the phone a day now, is that the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen don't always work properly. You catch yourself tapping them more than once and the back light goes off to early.
@stedman10 To fix the problem, push the button instead of tapping it. This can be annoying, but at least the buttons respond every time when you do this. There's a setting to have the button backlight turn off at the same time as the screen too.
My epic came in yesterday and it's frickin awesome!!!!! Nice Vid bro!! This video tells it how it really is. People who have and couldn't wait for the Evo are telling me now they wish they would have waited till the epic came out. It's far superior in my book. I love the screen. @Zea645 It is a design thing. I myself wanted a physical keyboard. I Can't live w/o it. There are a couple of things that convinced me to go with the epic and one was the Super Amoled screen. It is far superior to the Evo's or any other phone for that matter. (IMHO) Excluding the other devices with Super Amoled screens of coarse. One other was that the epic is DLNA Certified. I have a TV,Blueray player and computer the is also ALLShare compatible. I don't know I side w/ the Epic

Pretty dumb. Considering that EVO is superior to Epic in pretty much every respect, except for 3d acceleration.
1) Bigger screen yet smaller form factor.
This is the biggest difference.
The rest doesn't make much difference to an average dumb joe.
2) Better interface out of the box. Swype included standard in the latest update, which makes hardware keyboard obsolete.
3) Much slicker looking and more 3rd party accessories.

@kazper333 I won't be switching to Verizon until maybe a year to year and a half from now. The only reason I would is because I'm moving in the summertime and Sprint's service is not nearly as good as Verizon's there. However, I still won't switch until my contract ends.

@zionistboy You can install Swype on the Evo, you can do DLNA using TwonkyServer (DLNA is Wifi-based), it has a bigger screen, dual LED flash, both cameras are better, and it FEELS like a premium device. Plus, HTC supports their phones long after their shelflife, unlike Samsung. And to top it off, all at $50 less than the Epic. I was going to buy the Epic but I'm so glad I made the right choice and got the Evo. So what if the Epic has a better GPU. It's a PHONE. The Evo is better at real stuff.

When it really comes down to it, it all depends on what you need on your phone. Keyboard and Media? If you have the extra $50, then go ahead. Want Sense, a bigger screen, and a more tablet-like phone? Don't have the extra $50? Go Evo. BTW the framerate cap was removed. Both phones are excellent - look at your needs. All the other things you want can be loaded on by rooting.

@jaymoneyman100 to be completely onset, they're both equal in a way. I really think its down to personal preference. I liked the Evo better, but the Epic does outperform the Evo with anything to do with graphics.

@canadia7x Yeah, but Touchwiz adds almost no functionality to Android whereas Sense adds and improves on a lot. So what if it has a better GPU? Both phones have bad batteries, so 3D games are out of the question. You don't need more than an Evo to play Angry Birds (for example). And like I said, the Evo adds features where they really count; a full-screen web-browser, a better dialer, better camera, etc. Overall, I just feel like HTC builds very solid devices and Samsung...abandons theirs.

Ok people. Prepare to be punched in in the ovaries about how the Physical Keyboard actually makes a huge difference as a business phone. You can text, type, game, etc. without taking up Any BIT of your screen. 4.3"? ..pfft..say hello to 4" without any Screen clutter. ^^

@Dredghill Well now, I've had no problems with a 4" screen, let alone a 3.5" iPhone screen. 4.3" may seem huge, but it doesn't make a difference when you're performing daily tasks. BTW, the keyboard is a nice addition, but not too necessary. Suit yourself, your opinion.

All in all, I can say that both of them are great. I'm curious to see why you think the Epic is boring. My counterpoint was that it's possible to add some mods to make it function like the EVO.

Pffft............I waited months for my EVO and the day I got it the guy tried to sell me the EPIC I held it for two seconds and I was immediately unimpressed........Good luck trying to replace a SAMOLED screen if anything happens to your phone. Samsung won't have enough to cover replacements till they start a new production line in 2012......FRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT EVO owns this boring phone.

@Panofobia It's called insurance. SAMOLED is a trademark of Samsung and they will never run out at this point because only their phones use it. I used an EVO this week (after bringing mine back to the store) and I just didn't care for it anymore. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Although, you don't really have an excuse to use criticize the Epic if you only held it for 2 seconds. I modded mine to look like an EVO and it still has more options.

AMOLED is not SAMOLED and there have been no problems producing Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode screens as this is Samsung's patented technology and it's currently only used on the Galaxy S phones and will not be used by another company for a while.

Uhhh...the epic runs Touchwiz 2.5....not 3.0. Do your homework. ^_^ I also like how you talked a lot about the epic being soooo fast. They're both 1 ghz so that's moot. I think they're both great phones, just feel the need to keep things accurate.

@aarodynamik Actually, it is 3.0. To confirm this, I checked the system dump for the Epic and everything is there. Samsung just hasn't enabled it because of the landscape orientation. The epic's processor is far superior to the EVO's. Just because they're one ghz doesn't mean anything. I've owned both phones and ran benchmark tests on both to confirm this.

@canadia7x ohh alright then. Perhaps it has Touchwiz 3 on board. And which benchmarks did you run? I agree that the Epic has a better graphics chip. But as far as processing power, I don't think the hummingbird is any better than the snapdragon. Unless you're talking about a Linpack test, it's probably just better graphics.

You're right though, but I think the Hummingbird slightly edges out, but of course, why does it matter when you have root, memory management apps, and everything else good about Android? Both the phones are so good, that it's really impossible to go wrong. The only difference: keyboard or no keyboard: your call :)

another thing is that I think that samsung did a great job with the UI. The only problem I have so far; and remember I've only had the phone a day now, is that the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen don't always work properly. You catch yourself tapping them more than once and the back light goes off to early.

@stedman10 To fix the problem, push the button instead of tapping it. This can be annoying, but at least the buttons respond every time when you do this. There's a setting to have the button backlight turn off at the same time as the screen too.

My epic came in yesterday and it's frickin awesome!!!!! Nice Vid bro!! This video tells it how it really is. People who have and couldn't wait for the Evo are telling me now they wish they would have waited till the epic came out. It's far superior in my book. I love the screen. @Zea645 It is a design thing. I myself wanted a physical keyboard. I Can't live w/o it. There are a couple of things that convinced me to go with the epic and one was the Super Amoled screen. It is far superior to the Evo's or any other phone for that matter. (IMHO) Excluding the other devices with Super Amoled screens of coarse. One other was that the epic is DLNA Certified. I have a TV,Blueray player and computer the is also ALLShare compatible. I don't know I side w/ the Epic
