I am very glad to see this video. I am only a teenager, but I know that this country has mistreated vets in the past. Without those that are, or were, in the military, we are nothing. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE! God bless you and Your families.
My Dad was over in Europe and fought the Nazi's. The man came home, never bitched moaned or complained. He just did what he had to do. Raised a family, lived with integrity, and always gave when asked. Like a Rock. I'm lucky to have one tenth of his integrity. God Bless all who understand what life is truly about.
Thank you, all of you with the courage, integrity, and honesty to do what's right, despite what others may speak in your name. God Bless those who stand for truth and justice, even when we're not sure where those values have gone. Sometimes late at night, let us all look up and say thank you for those that never returned, for us. For us.
We should consider doing what Robert A. Heinlin proposed in one of his books; allowing only veterans to vote in national elections. The process and practice of governance in this country would be a great deal different, and a great deal less fucked up if that were the case.
Hey Bob - Jarheads knows about rocks... and standing up for them. Maybe you was there on May 22, 1968. It sure sounds like it. Capt Harris an' all know you remembered them
i live in oklahoma. we have laid 10 of our sons to rest in the last 5 weeks. 2 of them today. please say a prayer for their families in their time of grief. and to all our fallen heroes. dedication of this type is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. all these young men had young children and one was just 23 years old. what sacrifice. truly our best.
thank you to ALL who have and are still serving this great country. but even more thanks to their families for their sacrifice also. had a nephew in the ffirst gulf war. great sacrifice on both sides. never forget their courage and dedication.
BOB SEGER , no one else like him -- great song, always one of my favorites, but with this video its the best words to picture-- joined the SERVICE in 78' / retired in 08' -- MAN WHAT A RIDE!!! -- just went and set 7 American flags on the graves of my fellow troops this past Memorial Day -- they are gone but definately not ever forgotten -- i still miss it -- probably always will, but am honored to have served -- 30 years , where did they go??? -- 11B, the ULTIMATE job ever-- just ask THE GRUNTS
Outstanding Video!!!! Thanks so much Veterans for sacrificing!!! Our Country is not what it used to be!!! But still their are those who chose to stand for what we have today. FREEDON DOESN'T COME FREE!!!!
Dave, my good friend was a Door Gunner, D.I. At Bragg, RE-UPed for Nam 4 Tours, Was a Sergent major at Bragg when our Choppers went down in the sands of Iran, He still cares as much for his men as he did back then. I`ve known him to leave his home and travel hundreds of miles to go to a buddy who is hurting now, A Special Breed of people, Thank you all again, RD
Ronnie, Just saw your reply. Thanks bro! I did two. I understand about your friend. My crew chief lives across the country but I would be on my way in without a second thought if he ever needed me. BUT the special part is, I know that he would too! That is something, a togetherness so deep, few will ever experienxce it.
You will always be welcome! Have a great day, and thank you TOO for YOUR service. Don't EVER think it wasn't just as important.
Like Cecil Said, Millions of us LOve you all And Always Have, and thank you for Giving part of your LIFE & some Gave all, for "US", We thank you All, and as Tommy said, "YOU WENT BECAUSE OF US"
How could anyone vote thumbs down on this beautiful song and video??? Probably those who hate the USA. Thank you for this wonderful video & for Bob Seger
As a Veteran (door gunner) of Vietnam, it warms my heart to see all of the kind and wonderful comments from those that did care then and are starting to care now. I have to believe that if those that protested and spit on us then, knew how deeply they hurt us and how long that hurt and resentment would last, they would think again, then again, seeing some of the comments on a few of the other vietnam related videos....maybe not! But to you that do care, from all of us. Thank YOU!
Wonderful video, and a wonderful use of "Like A Rock". This has always been one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers, but I never put it into the scope of all us Vets. Magnificent!!
Though it may appear that many in America do not appreciate the greatness of each sacrifice and loss you who serve endure, there are unknown millions who love you and appreciate the service and the sacrifice, honorably and voluntarily given. You Will Never Be Forgotten nor will those who despise you ever be forgiven!
There is a fight for freedom that will never end. From the bully at school who would take your freedom if you won't fight back to the bully over the sea who would take the freedom of a country in the same way. Thank you all for standing against the bullies of the world who would take so many wonderful freedoms. Every time I see our flag I think of you and say Thanks, I wish you all could hear it.
I signed up for the draft but was never called and didn't join. My Dad and Uncle was in WW2 my brothers were air force but at peace time. For those who did and those who don't know why , I can say what i want and no one can stop me. Thank You! I live in a great country were the poor get feed. Thank You! I can buy any house I can afford no matter who likes it.Thank You! My children can go out on a saturday night .Every one who every had a better life for coming here has one person to thank YOU!!!
Love this song! thanks to all the men and women that fight for our freedom!!!!!!!!! this song also reminds me of my wonderful DAD!! he passed away 19 yrs ago from cancer. I love you DAD!!!!!! Jacque41000
Tho I am a veteran, I was lucky enough to be spared the hell of war. I salute all of you who were called to war & fought without any 2nd thoughts. the ones that never made it home are the true heros...just my opinion. may God Bless you all.
Those were the days right there!!! Not a day goes by where I don't think back on those times and wish I was back there right now. If only to be able to tell those I lost, I love you one more time. Godspeed brothers, I will see you soon!!
Thanks for posting my video, Darnell. Always happy to see more exposure for it. Strangely, you're copy has even more views than my own. Go figure. Thanks again and a huge Thanks for your service to our vets. RavensNest (Steve).
god bless our fighting men and women and may god be with them where ever we go we can never pay them back for what they have done and i plan to join their ranks very soon as i am enlisting in the US Army god bless the United States of America!
We just met two Delta Force men who did multiple tours in Iraq and Afganistan and were very proud to have been there. God bless Chris & Josh for all that they have done!
i can so relate to this video by 1951darnell i'm retired army 1975-2008 (33 years)
and i've see way to much death and destruction in my time and some times(just like in the song ) if i'm alone and i start to think about it , it makes me cry (just like now as i'm writing this6:41pm,pst sunday june 27 2010) i'm starting to cry .
Thanks Steve a great video to a great song. Thank You to all who served putting your life in harms way to keep our nation free.GOD BLESS AMERICA! To those who lost there loved ones I thank you for giving up them for our freedom! For those who don't stand behind our troops I ask that you feel free to stand in front of them!
I find it remarkable with all our obvious freedoms and blessings that some, many, see this nation though indoctrinated eyes and twisted logic, unable to have a genuine thought, wanting so much to fit in with Hollywood, far too many "artists".
I served 1st AD 66-68, my father Iwo Jima, uncles in the Pacific, brother USAF', cousin VN. Nephew USMC, freinds SEAL team 2/6/12. Green Berets etc etc.
I'm too old now but am proud of our youth who see the reason to serve.
I spent 23 years in the military , Iam now 46 years old and my only regret is that i am told old now to serve with our young men and woman.... If i had to explain it you wouldent understand. I salute all those who place themselves in harms way for my behalf.
Heard the song a million times but never connected it to my days as a grunt. Kind of busts me up a bit as i reflect on the times when i walked a little taller and lived a little bolder.
words can't even express how i feel right now, because i am crying out of gratitude. thank you so much. i will pray for past and present service men and women tonight.
Excellent job Darnell.....I never put the song's lyrics and military service together until about 3 years ago. They are a perfect match. I was a dust off medic in Vietnam and I can tell you that your video makes us all proud......thanks.
Tank you for this video Darnell Im a US Army Ranger 75th Rangers 1st Battalion Alpha Company my current MOS is 18th Bravo and my current rank is Staff Sgt. Live Prosperous and free Darnell.
Bob Seger joins the ranks in my top 25 greatest Rock 'N Rollers of all-time, joining Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jackie Wilson, John 'Cougar' Mellancamp, Bruce Springstten, Wilson Pickett & Tina Turner. Oh there are others, but what I mainly referring to are those artists that could belt out a song and get you all excited and make you sing-a-long or even get on the dance floor. What say you out there in you tube, is he on your list or who would you add to that list or delete. Let me know!!
@1951Darnell Don't get me wrong because I do support the troops but when was the last time they were really defending our freedom? WWII? Certainly not Korea, Vietnam or anyplace else since then. It easy to throw around jingoistic phrases and empty platitudes, but to me supporting the troops means not putting them in harms way unless it's absolutely necessary in the first place. Too many fine men and women die for rich mens wars when they don't need to.
Thank you Steve for remembering not only todays soldiers but yesterdays soldiers as well. This is one of the most phenomonal video I have seen.. And thank you to all the soldiers who have served to keep our country free.
Memorial Day 2009 Thanks from a veteran. I really don't give a shit what all the policy wonks on either side of the issue say. In the end you're fighting and if necessary dying for guys around you. There is really nothing else.
"For he who sheds his blood with me this day shall be my brother..."
To all we all have the same color blood ... must be brothers then?
The issue with Afghanistan is not the people it is simply the opium they wanted the UK and USA to replace with an alternative industry as a consequence of the choices some make when trying to obtain the drugs for none medicinal use. Now more people can choose peace thanks to our military and citizens that supported their effort.
VERY COOL VIDEO. LOOKS LIKE IT COVERED MOST OF THE CONFLICTS WE'VE BEEN IN SINCE WW1. GOOD JOB BY Steve Courtwright. AS FOR THOSE WHO THINK WE SHOULDN'T BE IN IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, VIETNAM, KOREA, ETC. I'LL QUOTE A DESERT STORM VET FRIEND OF MINE: "Better to fight them, & keep 'em busy over there, than have to deal with 'em over here in our backyard." Amen, brother.
This video made me cry the entire time I was watching it. The man I love was blown up by a car bomb after serving 18.5 yrs in. Thank God for his return to us. Many,MANY did not make it home! Shame on you for anything but pride for these men and women who fight selfishly for your freedom!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I did not mean to hit down thumb my mouse is being thrown out the window. It has a freakin mind of its own. What I meant was You are very welcome and I am proud to be a free American and I wouldn't be free if it wasn't for all of the unselfish service and sacrafices made by our men and women in uniform! I should be thanking you!
Awesome awesome video, very well done. Bob Seger is my favorite and now when I hear this song instead of a stupid truck commercial I will reflect on this video. Thank you
give me a break when was the last vet to fight for our freedom,i live a across the strreet from an 83 yr old world war 2 vet who there generation faught and died for our frredom who will b gone in a year i look at him in awe ,he spent 2 yrs in a germany as a pow .they came back home and didn;t bellyacke abot nothing
Hey brother not to discount your statement. but dont forget that even though the current what ever it is we are in is a bunch of mess alot of lives have lost that we as Americans cant forget about...peace
Anyone sent to fight (and many are dying) for this country is a hero! Whether you agree with the terms of the war does not diminish the individual that risks thier life for their country. I don't believe that Iraq was a risk to our Freedom, but the individuals that are fighting that war as instructed are honorable.
AGREED. You mindless people think for fighting for global intrests and freedom? Give me a break is right! Read, challenge everything ,don't feed your self on CNN bullshit. Learn history, debate, repeat.
Outstanding job, combining all the branches of the military, along with our allies.A great tribute to all vets from all conflicts.Go out of your way to thank any veteran you see.God bless all vets! Thanks C-3/21/196th 68-69 RVN
My dedication: To all the brave young men & women who've given their lives in the War on Terror! And, to the 18 brave men (16 Marines & 2 USN Corpsmen) of Team 2, 1st Plt, Co. C, 1st Recon Bn, 1st MarDiv who made a valiant
stand the night of 6/15/66 on Hill 488, RVN, against a VC Battalion! Six died, ALL were wounded (only 3 were ambulatory),& they had 8 rounds of ammo left when rescued! Most decorated small unit in US history! RIP, Brothers who fell! Thank you, Marines! Semper Fi!
Wishing YOU Success, Peace, Positivity, Love & Light for all. God Bless the men and women in service defending our freedom and our way of life. Today and forever.
As long as there is a remnant of americans like these,This nation will always lead the free world .When we let pretenders as in those running for Office now ,We are doomed.Long live the American spirit of Freedom!!
... the emotion, the memories, the honor of being a "few violent men." For without this country would not be nor ever will be great. These are the rocks... These are the heroes. These are the deserving. Salutes... and God bless. Speeduardo... B co. 3rd 22nd Inf. 25th Div. Vietnam '69 WIA 4/04/1970 -Oliver Stone's Platoon.
What a load of bullshit. I don't think Bob would approve of this Gung Ho nonsense! Go Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan! Kick ass!

Excellent job Darnell.....I never put the song's lyrics and military service together until about 3 years ago. They are a perfect match. I was a dust off medic in Vietnam and I can tell you that your video makes us all proud......thanks.

Memorial Day 2009 Thanks from a veteran. I really don't give a shit what all the policy wonks on either side of the issue say. In the end you're fighting and if necessary dying for guys around you. There is really nothing else.

Thank you.
Great song

EMMONSBE 2 years ago
The years you sacrificed by staying with the man you love kept him alive 18.5 years in service, as did the men that served with him.
He will always be thinking of you every time you think of him just a thought away.
