@DUDEFROMDUTCHLAND either an acoustic simulator pedal, OR its his fingerpicking style. usually if you pick or pluck the strings close to the bridge, you'll get a more twangy sound. if you pick/pluck near the neck you'll get a more bassy/warm sound. also, strats are one of the ideal guitars to getting this acoustic sound. they're great for clean sounds, not so much for distortion/overdrive because of the single-coil pickups that make alot of noise on the drive channel.

@DUDEFROMDUTCHLAND Of course, first learn the right hand slap/flick technique correctly(without it, it sounds like crap), learn the right chords, then worry about your gear.. Move the pickups to middle or 4th position(2nd from front).. as far as pedals all you really need is reverb( I have a Holy Grail Plus, got off CL for $40 but can go for $145 new) . Or if your amp has reverb then turn ur settings somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4. Thats really it, just learn it

Beautiful. I love how much heart is in his songs have. You can tell these sons are him, truly him. His songs has a certain kind of strive, an on-going hopefulness that goes on even in the face of uncertainty. Though he may falter sometimes (and the media's quick to show us those), he keeps going in repair. He doesn't know where this train of life is going, but he KNOWS the heart of life is good. It's especially easy to lose a line of a song while you're improvising music, like John's doing on a guitar, or if you ad lib a lot and may forget your own original lyrics. However, it doesn't necessarily mean he needs it. The production crew provide that for practically any professional musician. It's also there for the other musicians to see as well. It's a common practice.
