Hmm, considering most of the businesses that work with macs give their workers a macbook pro I don't think that's much of a problem. My sister works at a school that uses Macbooks as their primary laptops (Windows as desktops) and she got a macbook pro from the school for as long as she works there. A mac user wanting a legit windows will have to spend at least $150 plus hardware like a hard drive to buy an OEM windows. Lets say total it $200.

A Mac Mini costs $600 so that means a windows user wanting a Mac will be out $400 more right? However, a Mac professional having a primary machine such a Mac Pro would have already spent more than a PC user with a strong tower. That $400 is easily resolved there, plus PC user would have 2 real machines, not one real and one virtual.

I am by no means a Mac fanboy, but OSX86 can be a crapshoot. There aren't that many hardware combinations that work. Even if you get it running it's unlikely that you will be able to find drivers for your sound card or NIC. You probably won't even have full support for your graphics card.

The only reason there's more software for Windows is because Windows has bigger market share. Most people use Windows, so that where most developers are aiming at. However, writing software for Windows isn't easy. DirectX is more difficult than OpenGL. Mac OS X uses OpenGL.

The professional Macs have more than enough power to run professional apps. The consumer Macs have more than enough power to run consumer apps. The only area Macs are not good is gaming, but then that is a niche market. Only 10% of all games are PC games (rest are console), and probably only 10% OF THAT 10% actually care about framerates, AA, resolution etc. etc.

You will see more Mac games in time, but at present its not big enough for Apple to care about tbh.

The Pro series Macs cost too much money. A PC with the same specs as a Macbook Pro or even a low end Mac Pro is really an above average PC spec. Gaming may not be important but any computer that can perform well with games can run almost any other types of applications. A very small percentage cares about drag racing but everybody wants a car that can boogie down the road. A person who relies heavily on a computer for work is gonna want a capable machine like a gaming rig.

I wont get into the price argument, but a Mac Pro is reasonably well priced. Xeons and Xeon boards cost a lot.

Secondly the 4870X2/GTX 280 etc. are designed with games in mind. Also remember that the latest Direct X card is not necessarily the latest OpenGL card, which is what pro apps use. Apple offers you the Nvidia Quadro, which is the card for high end pro apps, yet it sucks for games, so you see a graphics card is not just a graphics card, you need different cards for different tasks.

Xeon processors and boards cost more money because its made for only one brand. A PC board and high end processor cost less because it has more customer base and multiple companies use them. A gaming rig not only provides superior graphics performance but overall computer performance. It is better than having an average Macbook pro or mac pro.

Many brands use Xeon, Dell, HP, Apple etc. in their Pro workstations. Pro's like the Xeon because it offers advantages such as fully buffered RAM which can give a big boost in Pro Apps (but not games).

Lastly, having a good GPU does not provide better all over performance. Well not yet, technologies like OpenCL that you will see in Snow Leopard, and I'm assuming a similar technology in Windows 7 will do this. At present only graphically orientated apps can use the GPU.
