Both times I've had Gin&Tonic, they made me really sleepy (which doesn't happen when I have other drinks). Could someone explain this to me? Is it the gin? The tonic?
FWIW: Quinine water does not equal tonic water "depending on the brand." They're different things but some manufacturers do produce both tonic as well as tonic+quinine. Schwepps, for example.
In my honest opinion, the best mixture will be as following:
Fill your rock glass up to the middle with ice cubes (or more slushy ice)
1/3 gin (tangueray is my favorite)
2/3 tonic (everything from Schweppes to expensive brand water)
Cut up a piece of lime (or lemon of you prefer) and twist it over your drink. Additionally, you can put some lime on the edge of your glass. It's preferably if you're making the drink to someone who doesn't like Gin too much ;)
Always wanted to try tanqueray malacca...too bad its discontinued lol. Beefeater was my first gin though, so that will always have a place in my liqueur cabinet
el limón: mata el sabor de todo. sólo hay que dar aroma y no sabor. cáscara de lima, pepino, manzana, calabaza, physalis, lo que quieras menos lo que le ha echao este tío.
Lemmon juice itself ruins the flavour and the taste, and kills most of the tiny bubbles really quickly... what should be used is the skin of a green lemon, squishing it and then puting it on the bottom of the glass before of puting the ice inside.
also should be said that the ice should be made with mineral water, normal water chlorine ruins the scent of this drink.
I prefer Brokers for my gin and tonic, wasn't crazy about beefeater or sapphire. I'm looking to shoot for magellan when I have some extra cash. I have a perfect cup for makin my g&ts. It has a short bottom of about an inch, I fill it with ice and squeeze a lime onto the ice. Then I pour the gin to just about where the straight bottom ends and the curvature of the top begins, followed with the tonic. Not a whole lot you have to do to make a great gin and tonic.
My prefered combination is 1/4 gin to 3/4 tonic (chilled), with a thin slice of both fresh lemon and lime. I like many brands of gin, but the flavoursome varities rather than the exceedingly dry (like Bombay Sapphire). Best is Plymouth Gin, expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
By the book, this guy is way off. I've studied this drink on all angles. First be very hot and thirst to enjoy this drink to the fullest. What ever glass you have 3/4 full with ice, squuze lime over ice then slowly pur room temp. gin over lime till it in 1/2 way up through the ice. Then slowly add frech bottled Schwepps Tonic,Gin use Beefeater, anything less than schwepps is wrong. Fill glass w/ tonic, don't stir at all enjoy a sip of the gin as it passes through the tonic.
i gave u a thumbs up...i also dont drink allot, but i love gin and tonic/vodka tonic. In fact i am drinking a gin and tonic right now...its just so good...
The great thing about this drink is the different ways of making it. You could use 1/2 gin to 1/2 tonic, or you could use 2/3 gin to 1/3 tonic. Or you might prefer 5/6 tonic and 1/6 gin. If you like more gin, you might use 3/5 tonic and 2/5 gin. If you like a balanced drink without too much gin, you might go 7/12 tonic and 5/12 gin. Make sure to use a lime wedge to round out the drink.
The neat thing about a G&T is there's lots of variation. If you make it this way nobody could ever call you wrong. Some people prefer lemon, and I like mine with a dash or two of bitters. As for ratios, I like about a 1/3 gin to 2/3 tonic ratio, depending on the gin I'm using. Lately, I like Seagram's Distiller's Reserve.....
make it the way he says unless your going t do strait shots eal drinks are made to sip and last about an hr if u want a chug just go with strait booze
This is the wrong way to do it. Never put more that the correct amount of gin in he seems to pun in an extra bit of gin in straight from the bottle. Its now impossible for the drinker to know how much alcohol they have had. Also is that a whiskey glass he has ? tonics and mixers should be in a highball glass or they will go flat. This is correct order.. ice-lime-gin-tonic.
I agree with hardrockerdave. That may be how you get it in a bar, but thats not the way I serve 'G n T'.
Tonic out of a cyphon puts me off too!
also far too much ice, that dilutes the drink It is supposed to keep it chiled after bringing both bottles from the fridge. If you really want a perfect gin it should have lime and lemon added.
Personally, I put about 70 percent of chilled gin and about 30 percent of tonic, also chilled. I never put ice or lime in it, personally thats the way I like it

You should never use tonic water out of a fountain. If you want a decent Gin and Tonic, always ask for tonic fresh out of a bottle.

el limón: mata el sabor de todo. sólo hay que dar aroma y no sabor. cáscara de lima, pepino, manzana, calabaza, physalis, lo que quieras menos lo que le ha echao este tío.

tricota251976 3 years ago
@Dn2kproductions I COMPLETELY disagree. I use 3 ounces of gin, and 1.5-2 ounces of tonic. Crimp lime peel, twist and toss it in.
or
3 oz. gin
1 oz tonic
1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
