@johnmcn90 No, thats correct. Those sentences mean two different things. "Good English" refers to the quality of what is being said. "Speaks English well" refers to the speaker's skill in saying it.

In its subjective context, English is ill-defined and, therefore, takes on the meaning of referring either to what is English (the people, language itself, an individual, etc) or it's incorrect.
