That question was just a gateway to how Dave truly feels the band was affected and it was a very emotional response rather than... "oh, LeRoi was a valued member... it has changed us greatly... no one will ever replace him..." Trust me, this is in no way to dog on the comment, i was only giving my feelings about it because it was such a passionate and refreshing interview
@McCzarne I agree. This was a passionate interview. Dave got several minutes to talk about LeRoi & his affect on the guys. I especially liked how Dave was able to share some of the real feelings and struggles they had as friends. I definately got to know more about how they related to one another. Something we had not learned in his other limited on air time about him. Thanks for this video. I love these guys. They're number one in my book. Tavis is a good interviewer. He didn't interrupt.
I think he answered the question beautifully... Interviews don't ask questions to get "to the point, short and sweet, by the book" answers... most often the question asked is more of a conversation starter to get a feel for where the person being interviewed is... are they in a good place, a dark place, a sad place???
If you were a legitimate DMB fan there would be no discussion over who is the best member of the band... we all have different tastes and LeRoi was fantastic but Carter and his moody drum playin ass and Dave with his crazy dancing accoustic KILLIN ass are just as vital. Lets not forget the bass prodigy stefan... come on, the band accepted him when he was 16... now look where he's at...
Dave is a great guy, I've heard people say real negative crap behind his back (Im sure b/c he's famous and they're jealous) but if you meet him in person he is in fact engaging to everyone and very gregarious to his close friends and family.
You gotta go watch the full interview on Tavis Smiley's website...i juste love this interview. Tavis questions are so clever compared to other interviewers. And you can see how much Dave appreciate it!
he didnt answer the question though...no one has the soul funk and blues that leroi had. it has changed the band a lot. Coffin in great but his style is different. he's no leroi
who in the hell is Travis Smiley?

@grouperkng He's a PBS liberal commentator who pretends to be objective.
Saw him with Cornell West on TV, both are radicals who function in an
environment where any criticism is interpeted as racism!
Doesn't have the intellectual goods, but probably is very popular
with NYC limosine liberals who like having black faces at their parties,
so that they can pretend that they are not racists, which they are!
