His staccato sounds like a kick in the ass !! At least he passes the technical difficulty well at 6:49. His fingers are fast, his tongue too, but he lacks passion and emotion. Open your ears carefully : the overall feeling is not quite enjoyable despite the beauty of the piece itself...
One moment I always look carefully after is the 4 seconds at 6:49 which is to me the toughest part of the piece. The cameraman knows it as it's the only time he zooms on him but unfortunately it's getting vague lol. Although it's pure technic, not all professionnals even dare to play it correctly : Han Kim does it, and he plays it pretty well ! Yes he needs to improve his staccato and I find his gesture a bit disgraceful... Anyway : "chapeau bas" !
Natürlich gilt: Nur so schnell, wie man auch alles richtig spielen kann. Aber der etwas rauhere Umgang mit dem Instrument gefällt mir zeitweise besser als die abgetönte Meyer/Bliss Sauße.
Poor Mozart... Clarinet technique is ok but God, the orchestra and the style are horrible, nothing comparable to what we can listen here in Europe. I've been living in Vienna and Salzburg and I can tell you that's not the way to play Mozart... Very "demonstrative", "impressive"... Gosh, that's music, not sport !
I've read through a few of these comments. I am a Clarinetist and I must say this guy is a great. The flying fingers and him not tonguing the notes correctly are BS comments...Half of y'all wish y'all could play as well as this guy. People tend to criticize when they are jealous. You are doing a great job kid. Keep up the good work.
@aame407 Maybe people have been expressing themselves incorrectly. I don't care if his fingers are flying or swimming, but the bit about the tonguing isn't BS. This child needs to learn to play things more connected and not attack-tongue everything. That's not to say he's bad or anything. It's just what strikes people immediately when they hear this.
Well this video has shown me one assuring thing about the Concerto - even though I am playing it on a Bb Clarinet, for A Major it will be the same fingerings!
Nonetheless, I am 15 and still ironing out the wrinkles I have in this piece.
@superiorbandgeek I agree with you, but I look at him as a 1/1,000,000,000,000 person. I mean, at his age some kids don't even know the birds and the bees!
Bravo!!! Bravo!!! Bravo!!! It's just awsome! excelent technique, round sound and beautifull musicality. And if wants to dance he MUST do it! I hope 4 Han Kim to make in his life whateer hi likes and loves. Congratulations!!!
La musique, c'est magnifique! J'adore comme le homme dance quand il joue sa clarinette! La musique de Mozart est belle, aussi. Bonne video! :)) Les gens qui pense que le homme n'est pas parfait sont stupides!!
Also in response to a comment about you "prancing around", that comment was very invalid. Every clarinet player has a sense of tempo through body movement. Body movement is a great means for getting out nerves, but also establishes stage presence. i liked it.
p.s work on the fliying fingers. That is what is distracting.
I think as a clarinetist ever clarinet player has some area they can grow in. I think this is a great thing to tackle as a musician, but the music doesnt have the same impact if it isnt played light, crisp, clean, and accurate as mozart intended. I also feel that he needs to learn how to play with an orchestra. It is very critical that you keep a steady and consistant tempo. but your tone is great. Its very nice and dark, i still feel like this is very heavy and overplayed.
That's what happens when you have some priodgies. They practice and start out usually as people who have only private lessons. It takes a long time for them to learn how to blend and when to stand out because they've never played as part of an ensemble.
He is already now a great artist! He plays perfect, no doubt. May be that he has besides the great talent also a very good teacher. (of course I don't know) Anyway his playing is noteworthy. To play the piece and to play the piece with an orchestra is much more difficult. All the best wishes Rainer
This is a little faster than the regular performance tempo the speed is nice!!!! I love this....he's a lot better than me but it seems a little rushed at multiple parts...
i believe he has great tounging, and if you can't do any better, you shouldn't be judging. Besides, he's only 13. By the time he's your age he'll be 9999999999999x better than you are.
how can you know how good my tonguing is before knowing me?
he is studying music as a major, he plays clarinet every day and he has plenty of time to practise every skills. By the way, do you think I am 20 something or even 30 something, i am only 2 years older than him.
ALL music critics believe they are superior to the performer. Mozart if he came back, would embrace this wondrous child with tears of joy: he would recognize Himself in this Wondrous Child - so full of a natural dignity, honesty, joy and humility in his playing.
100% Mozart? Mozart never heard Mozart like the Mozart we hear today. Two hundred and fifty years ago, instruments were very different from ours. Mozart's early piano was a toy compared to a contemporary Steinway with a pressure of 25 tons on its strings! They were also tuned much lower from our middle C =440. The A+ of the Clarinet Concerto we hear today was probably F major in Mozart's time!
Great playing! You could be a little musical with those staccatos... it might be the way the microphone picks them up, but they sound too short and popped--it would be nice to hear more sound through the staccatos. But otherwise, good job!
also out of curiousity. i thought you played an eddie daniels ligature. this ligature looks like a regular dark rovner lig. i would think that you would play with your woodstone since you're tryiing to get your sound to carry over the orch. but never mind that you had no trouble playing above the orchestra :)
what a fortunate person you are. maybe one day i'll get to play this mozart concerto with an orchestra like this. but then again, you've totally earned it. your playing shows
