  • what did he do with his left hand at 5:04?

  • Martin Fröst plays Mozart clarinet concerto - Verbier Festival 2010

  • at the end it looks like all the viola and violin players are swinging their wang against the sheet music

  • His staccato sounds like a kick in the ass !! At least he passes the technical difficulty well at 6:49. His fingers are fast, his tongue too, but he lacks passion and emotion. Open your ears carefully : the overall feeling is not quite enjoyable despite the beauty of the piece itself...

  • @AlanTubeViewer He did this piece at almost 13 and your giving him a hard time?

  • im 14 and im playing this for my local youth orchestra concerts its a pretty song han kim is amazing

  • his staccato made me jizz.

  • you are great work in the staccatto loool

  • pshhh im better than him. jk he is amazing i want be as good as him someday hopefully! <3 love youu

  • Technically very well done, and nice tone.

You might want to try to lighten up your tongue, because it sounds a bit heavy on this recording.

  • Another nice rendition of this growing master.

One moment I always look carefully after is the 4 seconds at 6:49 which is to me the toughest part of the piece. The cameraman knows it as it's the only time he zooms on him but unfortunately it's getting vague lol. Although it's pure technic, not all professionnals even dare to play it correctly : Han Kim does it, and he plays it pretty well ! Yes he needs to improve his staccato and I find his gesture a bit disgraceful... Anyway : "chapeau bas" !

  • I first heard 0:47-0:59 on Click Drag Type 2. It's an online game.

  • I first heard 0:47-0:59 on Click Drag Type 2. It's an online game.

  • Sublim!!!!!!

  • My ears just had an orgasm

  • Poor Mozart... Clarinet technique is ok but God, the orchestra and the style are horrible, nothing comparable to what we can listen here in Europe. I've been living in Vienna and Salzburg and I can tell you that's not the way to play Mozart... Very "demonstrative", "impressive"... Gosh, that's music, not sport !

  • I prefer the piano...

  • I've read through a few of these comments. I am a Clarinetist and I must say this guy is a great. The flying fingers and him not tonguing the notes correctly are BS comments...Half of y'all wish y'all could play as well as this guy. People tend to criticize when they are jealous. You are doing a great job kid. Keep up the good work.

  • @aame407 Maybe people have been expressing themselves incorrectly. I don't care if his fingers are flying or swimming, but the bit about the tonguing isn't BS. This child needs to learn to play things more connected and not attack-tongue everything. That's not to say he's bad or anything. It's just what strikes people immediately when they hear this.

  • he is very very good, but mozart is the best!

  • Well this video has shown me one assuring thing about the Concerto - even though I am playing it on a Bb Clarinet, for A Major it will be the same fingerings!

Nonetheless, I am 15 and still ironing out the wrinkles I have in this piece.

  • haha i like the way he moves while he plays

  • Does he go to school?...

  • @192asso He just started at Eton college.

  • What mouthpiece do you use on your Bb Clarinet?

  • JESUS! I'm in college and I don't sound like that *retreats to practice room to sulk*

  • @superiorbandgeek I agree with you, but I look at him as a 1/1,000,000,000,000 person. I mean, at his age some kids don't even know the birds and the bees!

  • Bravo!!! Bravo!!! Bravo!!! It's just awsome! excelent technique, round sound and beautifull musicality. And if wants to dance he MUST do it! I hope 4 Han Kim to make in his life whateer hi likes and loves. Congratulations!!!

  • a good musician knows his limits and there is no doubt that Han Kim is a prodigy even he doesnt tongue EVERYTHING perfectly.

  • Also in response to a comment about you "prancing around", that comment was very invalid. Every clarinet player has a sense of tempo through body movement. Body movement is a great means for getting out nerves, but also establishes stage presence. i liked it.

p.s work on the fliying fingers. That is what is distracting.

  • I think as a clarinetist ever clarinet player has some area they can grow in. I think this is a great thing to tackle as a musician, but the music doesnt have the same impact if it isnt played light, crisp, clean, and accurate as mozart intended. I also feel that he needs to learn how to play with an orchestra. It is very critical that you keep a steady and consistant tempo. but your tone is great. Its very nice and dark, i still feel like this is very heavy and overplayed.

  • @DaJuanEvan

That's what happens when you have some priodgies. They practice and start out usually as people who have only private lessons. It takes a long time for them to learn how to blend and when to stand out because they've never played as part of an ensemble.

  • I would enjoy this more if he wasn't prancing around.. =.=

  • @wevil770

Prancing?! If the orchestral players weren't seated, there would be a ballet performance.

  • ahaha. Well put..! I think I said that to mask a deep sence of jealousy.. He's a beyond brilliant performer.

  • he should be using a clarinet strap!

  • This should be done on basset horn like mozart intended it for. That is the way to go. but none the less he is a good clarinetist from my country.

  • @hanj31

It is written for basset clarinet, not basset horn

  • He is already now a great artist! He plays perfect, no doubt. May be that he has besides the great talent also a very good teacher. (of course I don't know) Anyway his playing is noteworthy. To play the piece and to play the piece with an orchestra is much more difficult. All the best wishes Rainer

  • This young Boy is just pure magic and is a tribute to his parents who helped and encouraged him to become this marvel.

I dont think there is any room for him to get better. This is it and I love Korean culture & its dedicated peoples.

  • This is a little faster than the regular performance tempo the speed is nice!!!! I love this....he's a lot better than me but it seems a little rushed at multiple parts...

  • ugh some parts are just wrong...hes young i know, for now hes just blowing air and dancing

  • Some parts may be wrong, but he's young.

When he matures, he will be a god at the clarinet.

  • only ostentation, the tonguing is not good, the movement is not good... at least not as good as that recorded when you are young...

  • ch252525

    how is YOUR tonguing?

  • my tonguing is ok,

but for him, a so called professional performer whose major is music, should have a better tonguing

  • I hope your house burns down..

  • i believe he has great tounging, and if you can't do any better, you shouldn't be judging. Besides, he's only 13. By the time he's your age he'll be 9999999999999x better than you are.

  • how can you know how good my tonguing is before knowing me?

he is studying music as a major, he plays clarinet every day and he has plenty of time to practise every skills. By the way, do you think I am 20 something or even 30 something, i am only 2 years older than him.

  • oh so you're just cocky right? really high self esteem?

  • Comment removed

  • ch252525

Your tonguing may be ok. But your tongue does not seem to be ok.

  • he probably doesn't even realize how much he moves... It is better sometimes, to just feel the music and blend into it

  • This is just fantastic virtueosity on my favourite instrument.

I would love to hear Mr Han Kim play a Jazz Tune called High Soceity for Clarinet sometime in the future. Good luck to you.

  • Congratulations Michael!!! keep up with the good work, you will grow in age and experience to better yourself. Nice, expressive performance.

  • YUPPPPP!!!!! SOOO AGREE

  • ALL music critics believe they are superior to the performer. Mozart if he came back, would embrace this wondrous child with tears of joy: he would recognize Himself in this Wondrous Child - so full of a natural dignity, honesty, joy and humility in his playing.

  • people this days just think to much of themselves....

  • It's really too bad that the A clarinet makes you have to work harder, i.e. air support for control. He is managing amazingly well for his age.

  • @overlord1294 Managing?..I wanna see you do better than Han. Why act like you're better than him?

  • your skills are great but the style of music you play is not 100% mozart

  • 100% Mozart? Mozart never heard Mozart like the Mozart we hear today. Two hundred and fifty years ago, instruments were very different from ours. Mozart's early piano was a toy compared to a contemporary Steinway with a pressure of 25 tons on its strings! They were also tuned much lower from our middle C =440. The A+ of the Clarinet Concerto we hear today was probably F major in Mozart's time!

  • Great playing!

  • WOW they sure clap 4 long....(clapp.. clap around of a applause... wohooo....Bravo) love all the 3 mvments

  • Great playing! You could be a little musical with those staccatos... it might be the way the microphone picks them up, but they sound too short and popped--it would be nice to hear more sound through the staccatos. But otherwise, good job!

  • err the moving of body is to go with the flow of the music and all famous clarinetist moves around like han kim and as is he is jumping =.=

  • omfg! that is some crazy good technique!!

i like a darker tone personally, but to each thier own. great dynamics. this kid plays better than many college students i've heard. :-)

  • Excellent Han!!

  • also out of curiousity. i thought you played an eddie daniels ligature. this ligature looks like a regular dark rovner lig. i would think that you would play with your woodstone since you're tryiing to get your sound to carry over the orch. but never mind that you had no trouble playing above the orchestra :)

  • what a fortunate person you are. maybe one day i'll get to play this mozart concerto with an orchestra like this. but then again, you've totally earned it. your playing shows

  • Hugely better than Jullian Bliss, keep it up! :D

  • That's not difficult task. For Youtube versions I've heard it's close to my favorite Andrew Marriner and the London Symphony Orchestra. Andrew Marriner playing is just a bit more refined(slower and more simply cadenzas and such).

  • I'll be sure to look him up. Thank You.

  • er excuse me julian bliss definetly better than han kim but no offence please if u really want to compare pls dun compare with sabine mayer students haha because her student sound exactly like her....Han kim great job oh btw happy birthday

  • no he's not. kim will GO PLACES with his talent. and im not comparing with all of sabine's students just bliss.

  • i have to agreewith you too julian bliss performed this with more finesse but something about the video of his performance didnt appeal to me like this did. i think michael played it more musially. also take into account bliss was much older than michael when he performed this concerto. the fact that michael is playing this and playing it this well at almost 13 is remarkable

  • hmm...true.... even though michael started @ a young age and have many concerts of his own but julian bliss started many concerts before he was 12...but michael have a special tounging that i realli like still trying to learn that a bit of martin frost...go han kim

  • 안녕하세요 한김! you have improved so much since the last videos you have posted! I am so excited to see you doing so well! Maybe sometime we will cross paths? I look forward to hearing more and more progress!

  • Bravoo!!!

  • Wow your a way better Clarinet Player then me And I'm Learning how to Play Clarinet good Job
