xD God. did they HAVE to do that?? LOL and to the dudes below me. Yeah. The scene actually had a purpose. Right after they began filming ST:TMP Leonard Nimoy decided he wanted to return to Star Trek, SO they conveniently kill off Sonak (the one on the left, the new Vulcan science officer) and throw in Kirk's to-be wife. Unfortunate :( This scene gave me the heebie-jeebies as well when I was younger.

You needed to read the book to find out who was in the transporter.....the lady oon the right was Kirks GF coming to see him before he left....his shock to see her is even in the movie. THe description of the accident is even worse in the book.
