  • LOL "can I borrow this?"

  • LOVE DANIEL--in both forms--Spader in the movie and Shanks in the series. Daniel is my perfect man and whoever originally created the character read my mind. Kind, smart, not arrogant, respects women and GREAT HAIR. Oh to be 19 and have someone like him come along (sigh)

  • awesome soundtrack..

  • how dumb try all possible combination. u can do in 2 days no need of 2 years

  • @chinbnm

Yeah it could work, but they didn't know about the Seven Sygnal, without that the gate don't open.

  • @chinbnm They are Americans, so they need 2 years :P :)

  • @computerguy001 Lies and deceit...

  • @computerguy001 It looks better than the one in SG-1, but not better than the one in SGU.

  • Thumbs up if James Spader is a better Daniel Jackson than Michael Shanks.

  • I REALLY liked this movie...and agree with anyone who believes Michael Shanks was the perfect successor to James Spader for the part of Daniel Jackson. He had the look, though he was so adorably bumbling, something Spader's version of Jackson wasn't. He was bumbling enough, but Shanks, probably because he was so young at the time, just looked so adorable when he was getting on Jack's nerves.

And Kurt Russell...yowza! I know his treatment of Jack depicted him as a jerk, but damn he was hot!

  • Stargate is real underrated masterpiece with unique storyline, visual effects and acting. James Spader was perfect for this film - believable and really phenomenal acting. Kurt Russell, Viveca Lindfors, Alexis Cruz, Erick Avari and Mili Avital did a great job too. The 90's were really the Best era. Other underrated SCI-FI films of that era - Lawnmower Man, Alien 3, Virtuosity, Space Truckers, FutureSport, RoboCop 2, The Time Shifters, The Arrival, Mimic, Sphere

  • The movie was great, but I have to say that the tv show is awesome just because it has Richard Dean Anderson in it.

  • "It's locked itself onto a point somewhere in the Kaliem Galaxy. It has Mass--it could be a moon or small asteroid." They figured out all that from a probe that never left the Abydos pyramid? How the hell do they figure mass? Also, how do you even track and object *across the universe* in real time?

  • @mysterio5005 The probe was probably fitted with a gravimeter so it could determine that there was a significant gravitational force acting on the environment in which the probe arrived. Sounds like something you'd want to know. So yeah, there's the mass. Since the symbols themselves are supposed to define points derived from known stars it should be fairly easy to track where it's going (but during it...?). The "galaxy far far away" thing makes a feat like that highly implausible anyway.

  • in the movie the jaffa armor everyything looked much much better :( the jaffa armour in the series look like its made of plastic and cheap stuff...:(

  • Michael Shanks did real good job imitating this guy. I heard that he was chosen primarly for his good imitation of James Spader.

Hey, it's Richard Kind! He played in Atlantis as well!

  • James Spader brings such a delicacy and stilted brilliance to every role he plays, whether it be hero or villain or whatever Alan Shore is. He's a gem in the acting world.

  • watchsguniverseonline(.)com Brand New Episode

  • The General - West ? - in this movie was a real bastard. He was deliberately sending the team on a 1 - way, suicide mission, hence the choice of a suicidal, " depressed - over - the - death - of - his - son " Jack O'Neill, & sending a nuke along.

  • they are speaking swedish in the first part when they find the stargate in giza :D

  • i really dont like to mix the show and movie together cuz there so different from each other.

  • Now what should really annoy you is (according to the show anyway) that the symbols on every gate are the same (apart from the origin symbol), this means 2 things. 1 when they get to the planet in the movie they just needed to dial the address from the cover stones and the 7th symbol was whichever one wasn't on the earth gate. The 2nd thing this means is that the earth was the origin point for the entire gate system, due to the constellations being ones viewed from earth.

  • @archer49d Actually, the series fixed the location of the Stargate from the fictional Creek Mtn to Cheyenne Mtn. Also, the Ancients are essentially humans, and originally from Earth, so why wouldn't they make it so that the Gate System is as easy to use as possible? They then carried that on to whatever galaxy they visited, pick one planet to base that galaxy's gate system on, and pick the right constellations. Simple, yet highly effective.

  • You just have to let it pass sadly. Its obvious that they never intended to make a sequel or a series for that matter.

  • Another thing that bugs me about this part of the movie is that the old lady claims that getting the 6th chevron locked in is "as far as they have been able to get."

BUT...if that's the case, why not just try every symbol on the gate to see if it works as the 7th? I mean, if you know the first 6 symbols, it would only have taken them a short amount of time to try each symbol on the gate, until they came across the point of origin for earth symbol.

  • nono ok if they get a wrong code the 7th is always and i mean ALWAYS the earth symbol so get wrong code and earth symbol at end and th 7th chevron wont lock get a right code and earth symbol and it will lock the cords and you will have an cords adress

  • What always bugged me was:

    1) they had no idea what this device is or what it does (they didn't even know it was called a 'Stargate' until Jackson corrected their translation)....yet they have all this equipment set up for tracking a probe through space.

    2) The movie states that the probe is in another galaxy, yet in the series they specifically say that Abydos (where the probe went in this movie) is one of the closest planets (with a stargate) to Earth...and certainly in the same galaxy.

  • To be fair, point 2 is just a simple retcon (ok it's a big retcon). Point 1 however I agree with, it does seem a bit odd.

  • 1) Well they don't know what it is or what it does, but it is a big circle... like a doorway, so one of the things they could be prepared for is having to go "through" that doorway, I'd be able to figure it out from looking at it.

    2) And O'neil is O'neill, just accept the canon of the movie as being true canon and the canon of the series as being "fan-fiction" I can accept them getting things wrong, the guys who made the had nothing to do with the series. It's like non-Lucas Star Wars or Jones.

  • Also, regarding point one... Creek Mountain, CO is fictitious, could be a deep space tracking facility, etc etc which already had said tracking equipment in place.

  • Record all info from the stargate...no kidding

  • i love this movie, but what is totally dumb is that probe...I mean its man made but has the power to send back a signal from millions of light years away? I think not...

  • It has the power to send a back a signal through an open wormhole. An open wormhole making the space between Earth and wherever much much smaller.

  • Sending the signal through the gate.

  • wow. Somewhere in the Kalium galaxy. On the other side of the known universe. SG1 said it was in this galaxy and relatively close.

They dealt with the shaking, something to do with buffers.

Radio signals were supposed to keep the gate open, but that just shut down.

And they upgraded the screens from those bulbous CRT dinosaurs.

The only thing they didn't explain was how the fit the iris INSIDE the gate.

  • the iris isn't inside the gate, it's like a fraction of a millimeter over it.

  • He and michael shanks really do sound alot alike.

  • They both sound alike and look alike, especially when shanks first took over as daniel jackson in SG1. I always hoped they woulda made a parallel universe episode with the original cast of the movie and stargate sg1 meeting up,

  • that would be clever

  • well, the equipment they had in the movie was very old, so the discrepancies could be accounted for as mistakes. This was new technology to them at the time, so they calculated wrong the whole khaliem galaxy thing.

  • The show has about 10 different contradictions from the movie in every single episode.

  • the symbol for earth is on the front cover of, chariots of the gods, by erich von daniken. Daniel jackson was meant to be like erich von daniken.

  • even in the tv series the exit aperture never looked that good

  • Did too.

  • Excellente série de SF, malgré de nombreuses invraisemblances, bien sûr, mais c'est juste pour se distraire... La vérité est ailleurs... comme chacun sait.

Chapeau à toute l'équipe du tournage.

  • 4.00 Ha! I love it!

  • you mean "Galaxy"..... another galaxy IS in our own univeres >_>...... lol... just had to correct that.....

  • hm, it's been a long time since I've seen this movie, especially when you toss in cramming all of SG1 in recently

but I totally agree w/ one of my friends that although Kurt Russel is drastically different (at least in looks) from RDA, James Spader totally digivolves into Michael Shanks....

    luv it XD

  • One of the best SF movies ever made :)

  • Being an old buddy of Erich Von Daniken i wouldn't say this film was all that innovative but it WAS a lot of fun to watch & James Spader's still the one 'n' only Daniel Jackson!

  • this movie changed my life, and i suppose many others! :)

  • why don't you post the other parts?

    ^^

  • 14 years later, and David Arnold's score for the reveal of the stargate is still incredible.

  • DO ME SPADER

  • I heard about the original gate used in the movie was so rotten and destroyed from poor storage that they had to practically rebuild it from scratch.

  • Definately. Does it really cost too much to have that cone in a weekly show?

The movie is superior to the TV show in at least one other respect: The "aliens" don't speak English.

  • well the aliens that are not humans speaking english makes sense.. they studied us and are far more advanced. However the other cultures speaking english.. i think that the tv show just did not have time to have daniel jackson interpret them haha

  • @AnonVonZilch Yes well, in the Movie, Abydos is on the other side of the Universe. Which is inconsistent with the show. I prefer the series to the Movie. .

  • Actually, Abydos being in the same galaxy as Earth is inconsistent with the movie =P. Personally, I prefer the movie. Gate travel in the series is just too commonplace. The series is good, but the excitement and wonder of traveling to other worlds is something I really miss.

  • @AnonVonZilch But then you would need more than six symbols. Because along the axis of the seventh symbol it could be in any galaxy so it dosn't make that much sense. The 8th symbol for a different galaxy makes a lot more sense to reach another galaxy. Alos, the Goau'ld are extremely different in the movie.

  • You can say whatever about movies that win the Oscar. Far as I'm concerned, these 10 minutes are among the most powerful and fascinating in any movie. The great adventure. And not only, but wrapped in a fantastical sci-fi premise, about the possible alien nature of our science and tech.

  • i feel the same way...

  • Haha, i just noticed that the guy who played Lucius Laven in SGA is one of the scientists in this movie.

  • What a great actor very talented.

  • Jeez, even I recognized those signs as constellations the first time I saw this movie. Who doesn't remember Orion's familiar shape from when they were kids?

Even people familiar with hieroglyphs, and other writing like hieratic, demotic and cuneiform know those symbols don't look like anything like the standard alphabets.

  • I might add that Daniel who corrected a professional hieroglyphic translation to include a mysterious new word "STARgate" didn't even clue into that.

  • The Goauld, Jaffa called it the Chapp'ai

  • I am not a fan but must admit there are some amazing visual effects.Thank you!

  • I'm never gonna get paid

  • tv show is wayyyyyyy better, michael shanks owns james spader.

  • TV show is wayyyyyyy shittier. James Spader owns Michael Shanks.

  • wow. you sir, are a jackass.

  • Don't blame me if James Spader is a large celebrity, and Michael Shanks is a minor figure that is only popular within the Gater community who OWES any fame he has to Spaderhimself.

  • yeah, ole chubs is Large in the sense of size, compared to the ever so fit Michael Shanks, as far as his carrer goes, it was lackluster, at best. the TV show and all its people was way better than that of the movie.

  • "The TV show and all its people was way better than that of the movie."

    Prove it, penishead.

  • Ratings, it was Scifi's cash cow. numerous awards. Longest Running American Scifi television show. plot makes more sense, i mean really, why would a gate that has 39 symbols only travel to ONE other gate? is that enough, should i keep going?

  • It neer said in the MOVIE that there were only two Gates in existance, you idiot! That is what the SERIES said.

A rough draft of the movie script even mentioned the possibility of more Stargates.

  • regardless, LONGEST RUNNING AMERICAN SCIFI SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!! and if it wasnt for SG1 or Atlantis, people would have forgotten the movie.

  • and there were not theatrical sequals because......ratings for the first sucked.

  • It was a blockbuster, you stupid idiot.

  • no it wasnt you twit, The Dark Knight was a blockbuster, The Star Wars Saga was a blockbuster, Spiderman 3 was a blockbuster. this film was not a blockbuster. doucheface.

  • wow dude, going a little far there. calm down. i dont want your batteries to overheat or anything.

  • Okay. Sorry. I'm not going to go on like this, so let's just put a stop to this stupid argument. We've both got better things to do with our time.

  • The CERN should develop a wormhole this autumn. It SHOULD do it...

  • can anyone upload the full film i think it rocks i miss it

  • 03:36 that guy that is talking there is also on stargate antlantis:o how the fuck?!

  • I loved this movie! I didn't even know it existed until I flipped to it on Scifi network. Loved it. Just bought a copy on ebay. Can't wait to watch it again when it arrives. LOL.

  • awesome awesome movie

  • True, and a really great soundtrack

  • i just ordered this dvd i cant wait to watch it now

  • What you can't leave it there! Where's the rest of it LOL

Thanks for sharing this clip with us all.

Looks like I'm going to have to find my copy on DVD now. I want to watch the whole film. You've set me off now *grins*

  • please post the rest of the movie, if you can

  • that movie is GREAT! Fuck anyone who says it sucks! The stargate tv shows are also really good.

  • at 9:46 it kinda sounds like shes saying "astrick"

  • where's the rest of the film?

  • What I think is sortof neat... Although I have only seen this clip (And small other youtube ones) from the movie... Although differant characters. Actions and voice are pretty similar between the Movie and SG1 Danny Jackson.

  • ya i noticed that to! Michael shanks does such a good job! xd

  • A real project to decode an alien device would have consulted astronomers, who would have noticed the constellation symbols right away. And the Stargate has only 39 or so symbols, so they could have found the seventh one to open it with a finite search of the remaining ones. They didn't need Jackson, in other words.

  • They actually didn't know it was an alien device. It was found in Egypt, not the moon. =D

  • actually they did not know that it required 7 symbols until jackson figured that out they couldent get it to work because they were only using 6

  • Spader: Legend.

  • you know i loved this movie and i still love it

and sure it is a bit old and tacky but still it sparked one of the best and longest running sci fi shows ever

  • I'm never gonna get paid.

  • intressting, when was this movie made, before the series, but what year?:S

  • The movie came out in 1994. Check out Internet Movie Data Base (IMdB . com) site.

  • thx

  • nice vid man were did u find the movie cuz all i can find is episodes

  • dont you need 8 symbols to go out of this galaxy? and didnt carter say in stargate sg-1 se1e1 that abydos was CLOSE?

  • They changed some things around in the show to make things work out nicer for them. If they didn't, they wouldn't have been able to create 200+ episodes of 2 shows. Like someone said before, the canon for SG-1 and Atlantis is different from the canon for the movie.

  • STÅRGATE ftw!!!!

  • Isn't it "STARGÅTE" ?

    And yes ^ FTW ! ! !

  • Oh you are correct..My bad "STARGÅTE FTW!!"

  • doesn't that one scientist play the "Lucius" character in atlantis

  • Not to bust on SG1, but I think the writers messed up on the whole needing a ZPM to get to another galaxy, because here they did on their first test! (Listen at 9:38, she says it locked itself somewhere in the ...Kalian?...Galaxy)

  • SG-1 has a seperate canon to the movie.

  • wow i love the movie and the tv series and geuss what the series is made close to where i live yay

  • this movie remains a classic till this day

  • >snatch< can i borrow this?

  • this film my favorite!!! when i watch this film,i was about nine james spader is very sweettt :)

  • stargate is so cool

  • long live stargate!

  • Stargate Rules!

  • YES! Oh man... this movie rocks! I used to have the biggest crush on the character Dr. Daniel Jackson.... *ahem* still do. He owns them all.... holla.

  • i love this scene so much cause he just ownes them and that guy saying he was wrong AND i like the tape rec. part "im never gona get paid"

  • yup

  • I love it when Daniel figures out its the constellations, not words hehe..he's far from being supergenius

  • ownage.
