Leona's vocals are in a completely different league to Fantasia's. However, Fantasia puts far more into face and body when selling it. With one I'm feeling the vocals, the other, the expression. I think Leona's is better, but they're really different.

Leona's great and all, but it seemed like she was trying too hard to sing the song. She sang it well and she's definitely got an amazing voice, but it seemed forced in this song. This song seemed to flow more naturally with Fantasia. Again, their both great.
Well that Carolina girl I'm gonna ignore haha...she's nowhere near as good as Leona or Fantasia. It's really hard to call: Leona is an amazing singer, but she seemed to focus only on the singing...not so much the delivery, emotion, and performance. Fantasia sang it great, but also felt it, got lost in it, and delivered it amazingly. Her feeling was great. I'm gonna have to say Fantasia, but it was close.
On a separate note, did Leona purposely choose songs that were done by previous winners of AI(and were in some ways they're signature performances). We don't have any unnatural self confidence, its just that most of the performers really know how to perform and deliver the song. Leona's good, but I don't like how she sang so many songs sung by AI people..she's gonna be compared.The only 2 I really think she didn't do as well as the AI contestant are: SOTR, Katharine McPhee did much better.She may have not had all the tra-la-la's and runs in it, but that made it better; less is more. Summertime, Fantasia did better. I like Leona though.

Fantasia knew what the song was about, Leona thought it was about vocal gymnastics and volume. I'm afraid as magnificent as a voice as Leona has, communicating the lyric still wins hands down with me EVERY time.

Well.. i gotta laugh, if u have ears that can pick out a note u will notice NIALS the note's so the sound good and also how she wants them to be. I totally agree with LeonaRulez, i'd never even heard fantasias performances until i came on here looking for leona, and yes its good but nowhere near world class. Let's face it leona is going to be a huge star.
I must add that i think leona has an incredible vocal instrument, the range, the coloring, the tone all come together inside a perfectly beautiful and marketable young woman. Just don't copy other singers styles. She is still quite young and will come into her own in time.
she's not copying anyone. Leona has said that the way she was taught to sing from the age of 6 is the reason why she sings the way she does NOW. She was taught in many styles including Clasical training...Mariah just happened to be trained the same way as a kid. And she wasnt even the first to sing with high whistle notes, Minnie Ripperton was.

These other 2 singers mimicked Fantasias soulful heartfelt stylings and in doing so showed nothing of their own interpretive singing ability. Couldn't they have found their own way to sing this 70 year old song instead of copying Fantasias vocal style.

I think that Carolina Soto probably connected with the original interpretation of the song. Leona moved me with her voice. But Fantasia made me believe what she was singing.
Fantasia and Leona are both great singers. I love the texture of Leona's voice, and it she's a beautiful girl. However, I prefer Fantasia's version HANDS DOWN!

Fantasia's voice is truly unique unlike any other, she's annointed..Ms Leona's version is just simply a carbon copy of Fantasia's, Leona can sing but people please don't get it twisted fantasia owns this girl,I think the problem here is everyone is so caught up with eye candy, Fantasia does not look like the typical female pop star with long weaves and light skin,there is nothing distinctive about her voice, Leona is trying to emulate other atrists let's see Ms Leona sing some gospel.
Carolina - a little bit too "bar singer" but I like her voice
Fantasia - What was it? She didn't show off her vocal range (if she has one) but it was 1000s of times better than I could have done so I'll leave her be.

1 - Leona - clear favourite
2 - Carolina - a very distant second.
3 - Fantasia - She just didn't seem to put anything into the performance.
Fantasia by far! She not only can sing the notes but she gives the best performance. She is feeling what she's singing. She pleads with whom she sings to and reassures them. She's in a category all her own.
for those of you comparing Leona to the others - realise this is only week 3 of the actual show, the one where she first found out how to let herself go - look at the timid performer from week 1 (singing I'll be there), especially just after her perfomance and before the judges comments where she cries. She just gets better from here up to the final in week 10 (with her best performance in my opinion in week 9 with Somewhere over the Rainbow - repeating a song she sung at her cousins funeral).
I think they are all very good at their own styles. I think Leona is the best though by far, as she has a lot of control, and she doesn't go mad with tonnes of frilly bits. Fantasia sounds like a cat in my opinion, the other girl was good as well.

Leona's great and all, but it seemed like she was trying too hard to sing the song. She sang it well and she's definitely got an amazing voice, but it seemed forced in this song. This song seemed to flow more naturally with Fantasia. Again, their both great.

Well that Carolina girl I'm gonna ignore haha...she's nowhere near as good as Leona or Fantasia. It's really hard to call: Leona is an amazing singer, but she seemed to focus only on the singing...not so much the delivery, emotion, and performance. Fantasia sang it great, but also felt it, got lost in it, and delivered it amazingly. Her feeling was great. I'm gonna have to say Fantasia, but it was close.

On a separate note, did Leona purposely choose songs that were done by previous winners of AI(and were in some ways they're signature performances). It just seemed weird, all of the performances I look at from her, it seems like she's trying to prove she's as good as the American girls, its odd to me

We don't have any unnatural self confidence, its just that most of the performers really know how to perform and deliver the song. Leona's good, but I don't like how she sang so many songs sung by AI people..she's gonna be compared.The only 2 I really think she didn't do as well as the AI contestant are: SOTR, Katharine McPhee did much better.She may have not had all the tra-la-la's and runs in it, but that made it better; less is more. Summertime, Fantasia did better. I like Leona though.

Fantasia was better hands down! Leona is cool and all but I don't get goose bumps when she sings. She has no passion! She just sings because she can, Fantasia sings because her life depends on it.

Fantasia's version is my favorite.
Leona is a great singer. If they were singing a Mariah Carey song, I'd give it to Leona. The other girl isn't worth mentioning.
But the thing Fantasia did that the other two didn't is make me stop what I was doing, listen and go to a place emotionally that I didn't get to with the other two versions.
When Fantasia sang the soulful originality and performance made me BELIEVE. If the question is who was better on THIS song, it's Fantasia, hands down.

FANTASIA. Leona sounds like a little white girl singing this, the song is too big for her, she has NO soul. That Carolina chick definately doesn't sound great, seeing as she doesn't even pronounce most of the words right and she has that accent.

Fantasia knew what the song was about, Leona thought it was about vocal gymnastics and volume. I'm afraid as magnificent as a voice as Leona has, communicating the lyric still wins hands down with me EVERY time.

Fantasia sang it before Leona. I believe Fantasia's performance was most orginial. I like Leona's voice but she doesnt sound orginial and shows no emotion. Seems like Leonas just going through the motions sort of speak. Fantasia sounds the best hands down.

after watching some of fantasia's video clips, i av come to the conclusion that she will make a very gud gospel singer. to be honest..her voice is quite unique but, thats about it. but she does her own thing and does it well tho.

Well.. i gotta laugh, if u have ears that can pick out a note u will notice NIALS the note's so the sound good and also how she wants them to be. Fantasias's performance was far from brilliant. to much grovel in the voice for the type of song, call it her style, i dont know.. what i do know is it didnt sound fantastic, nor is it anywhere near the same lvl as Leona

I must add that i think leona has an incredible vocal instrument, the range, the coloring, the tone all come together inside a perfectly beautiful and marketable young woman. Just don't copy other singers styles. She is still quite young and will come into her own in time.

she's not copying anyone. Leona has said that the way she was taught to sing from the age of 6 is the reason why she sings the way she does NOW. She was taught in many styles including Clasical training...Mariah just happened to be trained the same way as a kid. And she wasnt even the first to sing with high whistle notes, Minnie Ripperton was.

This song was writtin by Gershwin in 1934 as a lulliby to be sung to a child to lull them to sleep. Fantasia sang this song in her black gospel styling she has always sung in. These other 2 singers mimicked Fantasias soulful heartfelt stylings and in doing so showed nothing of their own interpretive singing ability. Couldn't they have found their own way to sing this 70 year old song instead of copying Fantasias vocal style.

I think that Carolina Soto probably connected with the original interpretation of the song. Leona moved me with her voice. But Fantasia made me believe what she was singing.

you know...NO ONE outside of the US really knows about Fantasia, its only after Leona performed summertime that people from here and around the world started looking into her performances. I'm almsot certain Leona did not try and copy fantasia, she's a nobody here. Her performance means nothing to no one. It didnt capture the world, it captured America. Leona on the other hand is already getting buzz everywhere bot on a massive scale but how can she when its only been on the net?

1 - Leona - clear favourite

for those of you comparing Leona to the others - realise this is only week 3 of the actual show, the one where she first found out how to let herself go - look at the timid performer from week 1 (singing I'll be there), especially just after her perfomance and before the judges comments where she cries. She just gets better from here up to the final in week 10 (with her best performance in my opinion in week 9 with Somewhere over the Rainbow - repeating a song she sung at her cousins funeral).

I think they are all very good at their own styles. I think Leona is the best though by far, as she has a lot of control, and she doesn't go mad with tonnes of frilly bits. Fantasia sounds like a cat in my opinion, the other girl was good as well.
