@XxmusixlordxX To start with this band, this one... but I recommend the newest album, scurrilous over fortress. With Rody doing most of the lyrics, the album has more of an accessibility , and its still fucking fantastic. The guitar is as amazing as both albums put together
Kezia was so differant for scurr cuz this still had the harcore edge to it. They grew up and lost that energy to a degree which is okay, but in the end, they are a math metal band now. THIS is fucking Hardcore with a metal flavor. ANd it's tasty.
if you actually research a little bit you find that it took 2 years to compose and produce the entire kezia album. It's a play or a story. And it's great.
@thefinalb0ss Really? How exactly? Don't get me wrong I fucking love Coheed and I do enjoy the occasional Rise Against song but...this is nothing like either band in any way.
Scurrilous didn't come close to the balls to the walls-ness of Kezia. The lyrics are superior, and there's more variety than straight noodly tapping, and the music itself is just heavy and wrought with earnestness and emotion.
Seriously, the climaxes of Blindfolds Aside or The Divine Suicide of K. weren't touched by any material on Scurrilous.
Honestly, I feel as if I don't have to dig any deeper than Dunsel to counter your last point. The sheer melodic power of Scurrilous is what gets to me, it's just a non-stop onslaught of sick lines. The lyrical style is also different; Kezia digs deep, and is for sure a masterpiece, but Scurrilous is firmly rooted in reality and way more accessible in a lot of ways.
Granted, the emotional charge and depth of Kezia is unparalleled, but that was not the object of Scurr.
Maybe I'll have to give Dunsel another listen, although I love the ending. I think just the emotional shizz is what does it for me, and the technicality took a back seat to woo me. Moonlight, Dunsel, C'est La Vie and Hair-Trigger are the only stand out songs on any listen I give Scurrilous. I just don't think it was the album for me. :/
@blake2112 Scurrilous is far better than Fortress. I like Kezia most for its melodies and lyrics, but I consider Scurrilous to have the most musical depth.
My favorite song on Kezia. Seeing as it is the only album I own from them I need to get their others but Kezia has been keeping me content and trying to improve my playing for a month now and Im loving it. One of my favorite bands <3
@Horoeusui Salve irmão, é que tem um blog de tirinhas engraçadissimo, onde o autor fez uma tirinha sobre ouvir protest the hero, ai derrepente todos os leitores escreveram a frase "YOUR FLESH MEANS MORE THAN...YOU" no google pra descobrir que música era aquela...ai fatalmente vieram ao youtube quer qualé dessa fita. E o nome do blog é AH NEGAO, entra lá irmão se vai dar risada pra caralho. Abrass
@BanningTheBots Well, I know music. Probably a lot better than you. If you were any kind of familiar with those bands in any legitimate detail, you'd see that the cheeky comment I made was joking and lighthearted, yet surprisingly accurate.
@fLKommotioN Haha, hopefully not. I can't stand it when people "stand up for something" when they don't even understand the context of what they're getting into. I think that guy was just one of those dudes who wanted to start an internet argument.
Anyone who has ever listened to MCR and not just written them off as a shitty emo band (which they are, mind you), would absolutely agree with me that that last progression has Ray Toro written all over it.
i think it goes fortress > kezia > scurrilous but scurrilous is still probably in my top 10 or 15 albums ever. fortress is my favourite album ever. it's probably because i'm more interersted in the riffs and drumming than the lyrics but dont think i dont love the lyrics too.
Ahahahahahaaaaahahahahahahahahahaaa!!!!! @porkychopy11 OMg...i almost died of laughter!! That like "Shark boy and lava girl is sooooo much better than fight club...just saying" Some people -_-
@fLKommotioN I have to agree with you. Fortress never really did it for me--I mean, some of the tech in it is incredible (as with all of their albums), but both Kezia and Scurrilous really do it for me. I think it's a bit deceiving to try to compare Kezia and Scurillous; both are absolutely incredible pieces of work. Kezia had an excellent narrative to go along with their excellent sound. Scurrilous instead went for more "relatable" lyrics, which I particularly enjoy. Two albums, both 10/10.
It's stylistically different than Kezia, and thus I find the two hard to compare.
As its own album, I love it with a passion I haven't loved an album with since Kezia. It's fucking awesome.
and yeah, I remember when my first video got a thousand views i was like yeah! and here we are, couple years later, No Stars Over Bethlehem is approaching 100k.
@fLKommotioN Fortress is awesome in its own way, Kezia is awesome in its own way, Scurrilous is awesome in its own way. All of these albums are fucking unique and have an equal amount of songs that send shivers down my spine. this band will NEVER get old to me. Everytime i listen to a PTH song again, i notice something different in it than the last time i listened to it. its fucking awesome! i love this band <3
i beg to differ. i'd say, holistically as an album, kezia was better than fortress. The album offered a deep, captivating story, achieving a unity as a piece of art few albums manage to. the style here is protest's own, and while the same could be said for fortress, i feel that is to a lesser extent. The atmosphere achieved by Kezia is almost unrivaled, and for that reason alone holds a spot of prestige in my musical halls.
@fLKommotioN That;s a well stated opinion, sir, and I'll agree that their new album > fortress. But I still think everything pales in comparison to Kezia. One can tell, just by listening, how much work PTH put into Kezia. Everything flows and is beautiful, one couldn't ask for more from an album (Furthermore, the concept is more than touching.... I'd go as far as saying it's molesting).
and while i can entirely understand what you're saying, scurrilous does things to my ears that have never been done before. the instrumental work is degraded by even the most crystalline words, and the vocals (although not necessarily the lyrics in and of themselves) are flawless.
@fLKommotioN i agree, kezia was more like a group of songs that all worked together on a single theme, whereas fortress seems to have more "single" songs, or songs that stand alone. however, fortress is still great, some great songs on there too.
@phoenix743 You're telling e my words are foolish on a subjective topic? Aren't you the newly crowned Duke of dumbass. Fortress is vastly over-produced, and sounds really mainstream. Kezia is full of raw unbridled energy and emotion, I've found their past two albums lacking in this category- and that means more than words can express, to me. Thus my words aren't foolish, they're precise, and well-guided. Should you prefer fortress or whatever their new album is called that's your business.
@jujululu222 In contrast to Kezia, yeah- I'd say it is. Kezia is radiant, while Fortress and Scurrilous are really quite good, but I find them wanting. Arif is and always will be a genius though.
@Misterhenriques In my opinion, Kezia was their best work. I love the rawness whereas in contrast, Fortress and Scurrilous is a bit technical and mainstream.
@moonerjamerson I agree that Kezia was their best work, but Fortress was alright as well, not saying it was near as awesome as Kezia and Scurrilous (personal opinion) was just a waste of talent that could have been used elsewhere :-/
I strongly disagree that Fortress was a waste of talent. I mean, sure, label it with the disclaimer "personal opinion", but like, come on, these guys made a kick ass album. their music goes so many places, and even if it wasn't their most unique piece of work, fortress was still a damn original album. they provide a heavier side that they don't flesh out so much now, and they did some really cool, mathy instrumentals that can't just go unappreciated.
@fLKommotioN well the thing is, more emotion went into Kezia reasons behinds their songs /lyrics. but fortress is more of a face melter album. either way i love PTH!
@fLKommotioN I never stated that Fortress was a waste of talent, I may have misword it. It was meant to say exactly as it says :> "Fortress was alright as well, not saying it was near as awesome as Kezia" then I should have put, but didn't "BUT Scurrilous (personal opinion) was just a waste of talent that could have been used elsewhere :-/" just replace the word AND before Scurrilous in my statement with but and I think it becomes a tad clearer :3
@phoenix743 But kindly refrain from calling me foolish, , I've as it's most uncalled for. Secondly I've seen PTH live like 5 times, and no tour was as epic as when they just dropped Kezia.
musically, Fortress had more diversity between songs and such, but there are still some riffs in Kezia that literally make my penis tingle. Also, Kezia's concept is so interestinghe fact that each section of the album is a different part of a greater story amazes me. Fortress is where they started the whole thing where they repeat lyrics a lot, which is pretty cool too. Also, Jame's vocal range is very noticeable in songs like Sequoia Throne, the song that convinces people he has a godly voice
@itsanonionFOOL its BECAUSE they are canadian. face it, we have better artists. not to mention we dont auto tune the fuck out of there voices to make it acceptable.
@dawnsfistandfriends but u guys gave rise to justin beiber which pretty much tarnishes canadas reputation of having good musicians even though u guys have alot of good bands justin beiber just make u guys look like shit lol. but still pth is one of the best bands around these days
after rody says no woman about eight times, "is a whore" is done as a group vocal/yell thing. at 4:43, it's actually done in the background of Rody saying "woman" for the last time.
omg people just stfu and enjoy the damn song. you're either watching the video because you like protest or have no life and wanna criticize music. i like both Atreyu, and Protest The Hero, in fact, i just bought a PTH shirt a few hours ago. doesn't matter who's better, thats all a matter of opinion, you people cant seem to grasp that. so stop bitching and listen to music.
Whoever the fuck thinks Atreyu is better than Protest obviously has no real concept of musical talent. I'm sorry, but whoever the fuck does the screaming for Atreyu must have a 100 clothespins attached to their ballsack to produce that type of "singing". They are talented at their instruments, however. All I'm saying is: Protest > Gay faggot screaming.
@knivesxgunfights Probably not the best ever, you're putting this up against The Wall and Sgt. Pepper with that statement, lol. Probably my favorite song though.
Best lyrics ever.

Ah, but 'tis my goal to dissuade one from their opinions if they do not match my own, for the world should be nought but what i see.
but no seriously, it's fine to have opinions and all, but it's not fine that you think scurrilous was a waste of talent. we can't be friends haha.

@fLKommotioN Our friendship, is now over then. Good day sir and/or madam.

Do I truly read like I could be a female?
Hmm, this is more troublesome than your opinion about scurrilous, and, indeed, it won't do at all.

@fLKommotioN I said good day! *blink blink* XD!

@phoenix743 But kindly refrain from calling me foolish, , I've as it's most uncalled for. Secondly I've seen PTH live like 5 times, and no tour was as epic as when they just dropped Kezia.
Misterhenriques 9 months ago
musically, Fortress had more diversity between songs and such, but there are still some riffs in Kezia that literally make my penis tingle. Also, Kezia's concept is so interestinghe fact that each section of the album is a different part of a greater story amazes me. Fortress is where they started the whole thing where they repeat lyrics a lot, which is pretty cool too. Also, Jame's vocal range is very noticeable in songs like Sequoia Throne, the song that convinces people he has a godly voice

you realize the vocalists name is Rody, right?
what a redundant question, of course you don't, my apologies. Allow me to rephrase.
The vocalists name is Rody, just so you know.
Much better.
Have a grand day.
fLKommotioN 8 months ago
@fLKommotioN umm no Rody is his nickname... his real name is James R. Walker.

>mfw I'm super absurdly wrong
my apologies, I wasn't aware (once again, clearly a redundancy; apparently that is the purpose of speech: to eliminate the need for thought).

@itsanonionFOOL its BECAUSE they are canadian. face it, we have better artists. not to mention we dont auto tune the fuck out of there voices to make it acceptable.

now im gonna sound dumb here, but in the song i never heardwhere rody finishes the line "no woman is a whore"
i heard "no woman" a few times but i never heard is a whore. where is it in the song?
AZNman11111 1 year ago
@AZNman11111
after rody says no woman about eight times, "is a whore" is done as a group vocal/yell thing. at 4:43, it's actually done in the background of Rody saying "woman" for the last time.
fLKommotioN 1 year ago
@fLKommotioN ohhh ok. thanks! i hear it now :)

@AZNman11111 after he says it a few times, the backup vocals scream it, i didnt hear it the first time i heard the song either :)

omg people just stfu and enjoy the damn song. you're either watching the video because you like protest or have no life and wanna criticize music. i like both Atreyu, and Protest The Hero, in fact, i just bought a PTH shirt a few hours ago. doesn't matter who's better, thats all a matter of opinion, you people cant seem to grasp that. so stop bitching and listen to music.

You guys shutting the fuck up about it: priceless.
fLKommotioN 1 year ago 32
Whoever the fuck thinks Atreyu is better than Protest obviously has no real concept of musical talent. I'm sorry, but whoever the fuck does the screaming for Atreyu must have a 100 clothespins attached to their ballsack to produce that type of "singing". They are talented at their instruments, however. All I'm saying is: Protest > Gay faggot screaming.
