Eli is actually a castrated boy who has been tortured by a landlord (Eli is 200 years old) and then has been turned into a vampire. So, its a bit mixxed up =)
An absolutely amazing atmospheric film. I put this in my top 3 of all time. Just finished watching it for the 4th time. It just kills me that it's hardly, if at all, made it onto the radar of mainstream America.
That's what's good about it. The fact that its a hidden gem. Mainstream America can't hack anything good. Even mainstream UK. Yesterday some random bloodclots came to the screening and giggled thru five mins of it because they thought it was German. They had the decency to leave after that, and glad they did. Just be grateful that they make these types of films, intelligent, atmospheric films for the intelligent type. Who cares about what others think.

I warn you i'm from sweden and i saw this yesterday and i will tell you my oppinion, the movie sucks, they say it's a scary movie but it wasn't meant to be, but it felt like they tried to make a scary movie and totaly failed!
This movie isn't primarily about scaring the shit out of people, it is about issues such as bullying, desperation and moral ethics. It is a very special movie with a rather unique theme and I think it is brilliant. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I believe that your complaints are rather unjustified as this movie is a dramatic movie rather than a horror movie.
It was not intended to be scary, it was supposed to transfer a unique depressing emotion entirely through action, but in a meaningful way, and relied on its original dark story line as its means of suspense.
I think it succeeded greatly at renewing vigor in an overused genre of screenplay - vampires. I enjoyed this unique feeling, of coldness, and it stayed with me for a while. I also admired it for being the first movie in a long time with actual intelligence and meaningful, artistic events.
I think that even though the film isn't scary, it's still very chilling. In your heart, you may find yourself rooting for these two "young" people, even though, in that back of your head, you know that the consequences can be dark & macabre.
When these two smile at each other, it is quite easy to forget the grimness of their situation.
Jag har sett bättre filmer...:) Helt klart överskattad

When Eli said she wasn't a girl, did she mean that she wasn't human or that she was a boy?

Thanks, I just took it out from my library and it's great! =D
I wasn't planning to watch the movie because I don't have much of a stomach for movie gore, but I'm just fine with the literary variety.

It's a different meaning in the movie ten it is in the book.

You must be under 13. At least mentally. This is a horror movie. An absolutely beautiful one at that.
