  • very cool: D

  • Ooouch..

  • Crazy idea, but its cool!

  • great job

  • ouch!!

  • Lol. That was funny. And well animated 2.

  • upload a tutorial how to do it please.

  • Dude it's all explained everything in the comments I made below.

  • Hey, can you explain how you did this? I'm trying to camera match in 3ds Max, but I just cannot figure out how. Im guessing i'm supposed to be in the Utilities>camera tracker section, but what do I do from there?

Where it says "movie file", I put in my shot, and then I added 4 trackers. Now what?

I have my model on a plane with the matte/shadow material added, and a camera all set up.

If you could tell me what to do next, that would be great! Thanks!

  • I'll summarise everything I did, even though you may have done some of it already:

In your shot, pick minimum of 5 distinct points and measure the distances from all of them accurately relative to each other. In my video above the were the three corners of the center tile (bottom left, bottom right and top right), the top of the bottle and the top corner of the milk carton (the corner nearest the camera).

  • Then in 3ds Max you create these points with the same distances between them (generally placing one at the world origin). Load your video as render background (make sure your output is set to the same aspect ratio) and set the Perspective viewport background to "use environment background".

  • Then you create 5 CamPoint helpersand name after the distinct points in your shot. Maximize the Perspective viewport, then go to Utilities > Camera Match > CamPoint Info rollout, select each helper on the list and click Assign Position. Then click in the viewport on the distinct points they're named after, and then click Create Camera and that's it. If it doesn't work, your measurements may not have been accurate enough.

  • By the way, you mention camera tracking. This is different from camera matching and I don't think it can be done from within 3ds Max. Matching is for static shots, while tracking is for moving shots.

  • Wow thanks man! That really helped me. I'm trying it out right now and so far it's working perfectly!

  • Who are ya?

    Who are ya?

    Not bad actually.
