I wish my band can ATTEMPT this song but we lack in ALL instruments -_- I'm in eigth grade so everybody thinks they are "2 c001 4 sk001" which really sucks. There's literally 1 trombone, 1 bass, 2 saxophones, 3 flutes 2 clarinets ( one being me ^_^) and 2 trumpets. I hope in high school i'll get a chance to be in a band from this caliber (:
@MikeSaurus i doubt many high school bands are actually that big, but i hope you get into an awesome marching band! marching band is one of the best experiences in high school in my experience! I like kids who are enthuisiastic about music! :) keep up the good work!
@marthwert im in highschool now and i'm SO DISSAPOINTED. I just switched to the Catholic system (from the Public System) and apparantly they start playing insturments in grade 9!!! But luckily my music teacher allows me to play in the grade 11 & 12 band, which isn't that bad...
@MikeSaurus wow so there are seperate bands for each grade? they must be small :o and starting in 9th grade doesnt give you much time to grow... unless you have a private tutor :p but at least you can be with a group that challenges you, i hope o.o. i hope things turn out better though, dont let this one thing turn you dwoon from music :p who knows maybe youll like it
@marthwert playing with the grade 12s i admit, at times can be a bit err.. awkward but I LOVE MUSIC and i would do anything to play my lovely b flat yamaha shiny black clarinet. the music we are playing FOR ME personally is somewhat challenging.. there's a couple new notes i learned (high eflat/dsharp/) in gr 7 (when i started playing) we got up to bflat and in grade 8 we went up to high bflat so i GUESS it is somewhat challenging
@marthwert im considering getting a tutor though so that i can really excell in my insturment.. (my GOAL is to be a music teacher and to play with an orchestra) SO YEAH. :-D ITS ALL GOOD
@MikeSaurus wow thats a pretty good goal there! and with that kind of attitude im sure youll acheive your goal no problem :) and yes the tutor would help you get better faster! and lol none of the music my band plays is challenging for me! but then again im just crazy :p hehehe were Bb buddies!!! i play the trumpet!! did i already say that?... o.o no i didnt!!! ok. and lol those notes for a trumpet are harder to hit. im glad to hear your music experience is going good! keep up the good work!
I'm in pit in my high school marching band. U have to be in 8th grade to be in the pit/band. I'm in 7th! I'm so lucky. Anyways I just had a competion. I wanted to to the theme of wicked. Our theme was called Ride. Traffic Jam, Senic Route, and Enjoy the Ride were are songs lol.
We have brass band marching bands. Ohio State is an all brass and percussion band based on the setup of a british brass band using flugels, E flat cornets and everything!
The Spartan Marching Band doesn't use a traditional MB instrumentation, either. Absent are upper woodwinds (flute/piccolo and clarinet). Like Ohio State's band, we also cover these parts with E-flat Cornets.
I'm confused. This was just in august that a clarinet from the Michigan State Spartan marching band came down and clinician'ed the clarinets in my band. *Confused*
That's interesting... impossible, however. Perhaps it was a saxophone player who also played clarinet. The SMB has never incorporated upper woodwinds. You can't hear them over the trumpets and trombones.
Maybe it was a saxophone player. When they came to my school's senior night, she was hanging out alot with my friend that plays sax who just joined this year.
Not quite true. Clarinets and upper woodwinds played in the band when I played trumpet in it, from 60-64. Can't recall when they were eliminated. We still have a few old clarinet and flute players show up for the Alumni Marching Band game every fall.
Omg! I love Wicked! If my band did this I would have started singing Elphaba's or Glinda's part.....bwahahah!!!! Espically Defying Gravity!!!! WHOOT!!! XD
I wish my marching band had been half this cool. Only, if we had done Wicked I probably would have started belting out Glinda's part, which would make playing problematic and upset the judges.
I'm gonna try and convince my band teacher to let us play this.. we have a fairly large 8th grade band.

We don't have the numbers in our band to do this show. You need trumpets, and low brass. Both of which we lack in.

Huh? MSU has clarinets... One of the clarinets came to our band to be a clinician.

Not in the marching band, we don't. In the College of Music, yes, of course.

This is incredible. As a member of another Big 10 Band, I truly wish we would do something modern like this.
It's an incredible musical, and the music is great.
Good job, guys.
