Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) harvesting it what this is. They plant Willow and then harvest it (a few years later) as a biofuel for Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plants. The chipped fuel then goes into a grain drier silo for drying to less the 30% moisture prior to being used. The only real problem is that the field takes a lot of recovery to be used for other crops.
@gardongabaron Infact your right, the animals these machines feed cause most of the global warming effects we see today. Their high methane output is alot worse that the CO2 output of either of these machines :)
This is very interesting. It is always interesting to see different things done around the world for various reasons. Like this, chopping willow for fuel. I guess you make do with what you have to when other resources aren't available. Amazing minds come up with amazing things.
@letsgetverydrunk, Without trees, you would very soon kill all living things on Earth. Trees are the biggest convertors of Carbon Dioxide into carbohydrates during photosynthesis, this releases oxygen as a result and they do it for FREE! So, LOVE TREES, hate them at your peril!
@DingleZilla it was a joke. i know enough about trees not to hate them, but the idea of someone hating trees is just funny. "standing there like jerks, photosynthesizing all day as if they don't have anything better to do >:( ..."
Hi letsgetverydrunk, I do apologise young man! It's not always easy to understand the context or intent of a comment since it's a written text. Please accept my apology as I had no intention of annoying you, it was my misunderstanding of your comment!
This idea is as old as the middle ages. In England, wood became scarce then, (no coal) so they found you could plant fast-growing plants like willow. Once the root system established, you could cut it down and it would grow back like weeds. Cut it again and again....and again! you see art with women carrying bundles, and mules, too. These were the sources of fuel. The term is "coppice" Coppicing is the video. Those willows will grow back like lightning!
