Every time I see the footage of Cigar's retirement ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City, I still whimper like a child!! When Jerry Bailey comes out in the Paulson colors and rides him around the arena for the fan's to adore was awesome!! But it was when they unsaddled him for the last time, and a lone trumpet player at the Garden played the song "Old Anzine" was when it became surreal!! It still chokes me up to think about that to this day!!
This video was tacked together easily with no real work. You have a horse that wins 12 races in a year and how many fantastic finishes to you have, down the stretch, in this compilation? If you are going to do something, do it right. Disappointing video.
It was actually 10 races. 10 for 10 a PERFECT SEASON! But you are right this video was disappointing. It should have featured more races. And the last should have been this one. And when he came down the stretch and Tom Durkin said "The incomparable, invincible, unbeatable CiGAR!!" The music should have gone silent.
I had the honor of seeing this horse twice...once at Hollywood Park for his Hollywood Gold Cup win and once when he lost the Pacific Classic. Each time I saw him there was something magical about his very presence. I was on the backside and I have never seen a horse with as much charisma and class...truly a great!
I got to see him in his retirement at the Horse Farm he currently resides at in Kentucky. They brought out a couple former famous horses and I was most impressed with him. He just looked came out like a stud. He invited people taking pictures of him he just knew he was a badass. I've got an awesome painting of him. He and John Henry at the horse farm impressed me the most. You want to talk about heart look up John Henry. He was tiny and his strides were nearly as big as Man 'o' War's.
YOu know Cigar could be really the last great horse of his kind..Most horses these days that race in grade ones do not last! 16 races won in a row! Travel so many different tracks!I do love this horse truly and want to thank you for this great video!
Love you Cigar!

I saw Cigar at the Kentucky Horse park once. He was very beautiful, and truly magnificent. I am blessed to have seen him, and Funny Cide.

I met Cigar in 2009. This horse is amazing and so sweet. Btw, the white on his face is really soft!
