I fucking loved this game!! It took me and my brother two days to work out how to get past the first screen, we somehow got him up the tree and onto the roof before we worked out how to get on to the next screen!
hay anybody remember a game similar with a girl she is in a dream that starts off having her saving a dragon egg and she wakes up in her apartment and she has to find a guy named cortez
This was the first computer game I bought with my own money. Great memories. But the version I bought (must have been the original first version) didn't have spoken parts.
The one part that really pissed me off was trying to figure out that you have to throw your boot at a cat at one point (?) and it completely made no sense. I never in a million years would have figured it out had someone not told me.
Haha I played this game when I was about 6 years old..though I had the floppy disk version when they hadnt recorded voices for it...I just clicked random items on random things...seemed to work.
And I was petrified of the desert. Oh memories....
This is a wonderful game but... tell me guys, how has been able to finish that by yourself? The great mistake is to put the NOT RETURN POINTS, i mean that if you didn't take a thing, or if you use that too soon, you'll not be able to finish the game! And when you are blocked, you don't know if you must do something or you don't have chances.
It wasn't a mistake at all. This was a game that was made in a period of the game industry where home titles were in direct competition with arcade titles. Arcade game could keep a steady revenue based on replayability, but for home titles, once a game is purchased - that's it. To improve the total revenue from games, one of the solutions was to make games unreasonably obscure or difficult, which forced players to purchase a strategy guide. It was not a mistake, it was intentional.
Oh wow! (=This took me back to when I was about 6 years old. Playing this game with my older cousin. I felt so cool and had so much fun playing this game with him! Now 21 I still have the best memories of this game. I loved the owl and weeping willow tree/princess.
For anyone wanting to buy these games, they've released a new Kings Quest collection series with 1-7. you can buy it through Steam for $19.99 (its in my wishlist waiting for a nice sale).
You might be able to find at a retail store though for cheaper.
Hell this was too integrated for any child to figure out. I had a hard enough time knowing what to do one any one single screen- let alone I couldn't weave together the strategy of multiple screens to solve the game. :P Ahh, but weren;t games made good back then :D
@krisprincess i was looking for it aswell but staying on a legal path, i found that there is a package with Kings quest 4,5,6 for 9.99 on the internet. Its still not abandonware. Maybe if you look further/illegaly you find a *free* possibility
@rhiannon650 Reminds me of the owl (Kaebora Gaepora) from Ocarina of Time T_T His music instantly started playing in my head when I read your comment.
I remember I would always go in this one building (I think it was a bar?) and they would tie you up and throw you in the basement to die. And I remember dying in that desert sooo much! Ugh!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!!! i grew up playing this game with my dad and it was the best time ever!!!!!!!!! i remember it being so hard.. but we beat it and it was AWESOME!!! lol. loved part 6 as well!!! i miss this soo much!!!!!!! i wish i could go back to this time.. amazing.
@TrenosUK That's why I don't remember any of the speech! I would have been, like, 5 when I played this, and it was on diskette. And this was as far as I got. :P
Oh MAN, I always died in the desert! Did anyone else think that the tailor was stereotypically gay? And the voice of that owl really got on my nerves after a while. This game rocked, but it was also so annoying! So many memories. Thanks for posting!
i remember drawing out a chart of the desert cos i died so much - and even then I kept getting stabbed in some tent by a sleeping arab guy or stuck in that 'OPEN SESAME' temple
I loved this game too and if memory serves it was one of the first PC game to feature VGA 256 Colour graphics and one of the first games to come on CD. Great game.
@Sipie007 This also was one of my very First Adventure games that I played on CD. I've always loved the King's Quest series of games. But King's Quest V remains my favorite one. Back to 256 colors in all of its splendor. This game brings back great memories.
