20 mile range wouldn't do me very much good, especially if that depends on being on level ground, which as I understand, is the terrain of Texas. In my neck of the woods, it's kinda hilly. A 40 mile range would be a lot more useful, but would still require me to own a second vehicle for weekend trips. Most of my neighbors couldn't use it at all since I live in a city and most people don't have a garage or driveway.
Are you using the deep discharge batteries or are you using the standard auto-type lead acid? They make lead acid batteries that are meant to be deeply discharged (like trolling batteries). Most car batteries are not meant to be deeply discharged. Are there any plans to increase the range? Any plans to install a large capacitor for an extra energy boost when under heavy acceleration or going up a steep hill?
Congratulations on a successful project. I hope you plan to make another one, or possibly take your experience acquired from the project to one of the new electric car startups. Again, congratulations, your a better man that I. I sure couldn't do it!
If the car companies did this to their assembly line cars now then they would sell millions of cars within the next two months. What is wrong with the American Car companies? What a missed opportunity!
Go watch the movie "Who killed the electric car" and you will see some of the political issues preventing electric cars. Of course, GM is still claiming there is "no demand." Ha!
how did you utilize the existing transmission? Please respond back. I am going to be converting my car with lithium ion batteries. Send me a message.

Actually, it is very hilly around here where I live. I imagine the same car could probably go 30 or 40 miles on flat ground.

They are actually Golf Cart Batteries, which are designed for deep discharge. I have no further plans with the car as I sold it recently.
