  • what rod do you throw that rig on?

  • In the UK this is known as a 'Running Ledger' and has been used as a sea and fresh water rig for generations. Usually used with a larger bait for larger bottom feeding fish.

  • You fishing mostly from banks or boats?

  • Thank you so much for this man, I have been so confused on how this all works. You are the man.

  • With those no-roles, is it more effective to have the narrow end facing up the line or the back end facing first?

  • i am 12 and because of you i won 2 cat fishing tournaments i and probably wouldn't have won with out our tips your my favorite youtube fisherman and i caught the biggest blue cat i have ever caught with with your Carolina rig it was 20 pounds so thanks average fisherman

  • @nazizombieslayer1000 you're 12 ?! ah ok, now your nickname makes sense !

  • finally someone made a diagram actually showing us! thank you!

  • wouldn't an egg-float placed 1.5-2" from the hook help keep the bait off the bottom..or does the bait actually drift up enough without the egg-float?

  • yep like Germany we Brits have been using since Noah was around

  • How heavy is that sinker? Thats for the advice!!

  • Well this work in fast moving water?

  • hey averagefisherman - thanks for posting this video, over here in aus we call it just a running sinker but its good to see exactly how to do it properly.

  • what you use for your leader line ? like what kind of line and how much pound

  • I USE THAT RIG ALL THE TIME OUT HERE IN SOUTHERN CALI CATCHING HALIBUT IT WORKS GOOD!

  • nice setup!

  • thanks dude nice tip

  • dude thanx for all the videos they really helped me alot in the tournaments ive ben.

  • wery god rig i use it too

  • Gonna fish for some Cats tomarro. I think the carolina rig is da best. Thanks for teachN us.

  • I just started using this rig, I caught three blue cats within 30 mins in the Mississippi while flooded.

  • That is a badass rig. I always wondered as a kid what a catfish would do if he took the bait then felt resistance and poking from hooks. I will be using this on my next cat trip.

  • What would you say is the best bait or dip to use for catfish in general and the best for smaller bodies of water in texas?

  • wow big words lol... jp

  • hey, when you said use the clinch knot on the other end of the swivvel, does it matter? i used the polymer knot and it worked fine.

  • this is the first video of yours ive seen suprisingly, and man, you make it clear on everything. i like the presentation at the end of how to do it. just rigged up my poles like that, ill try it out in about a week. i subbed by the way.

  • where can you buy those no roll sinkers

  • Love it - Where do you find those sinkers. I cannot find any up here in pittsburgh!!!

  • god damn what are you fishing for sharks ?

  • I will be trying it out to catch some Catfish. Thanks so much for this tip since I have a Carolina kit made by Renegade which I got at Wal-Mart.

  • Where can the no-rolls be found?

  • hey y is ur sinker around backwards does it help let line out better/i do it the other way ouround with the sinker faceing the other way/comment or tell us any differences

  • ur vids are awesome dude. thx from PA. By the way. What do use for bait with this rig?

  • Thanks alot man. I been lookin to find a good rig and i been usin this. What bait do you usually use?

  • Hey, actually tried this yesterday after watching your video. It worked great thanks!

  • What fish would you use this for? catfish?

  • wow...this has always been my number 1 problem...the cat feelin my sinker...awesome i cant wait to try it this spring. thanx a lot for the tip

  • on a texas rig how do you make the weight not move

  • thanks for making this vidoe ill try it next time i go out

  • so what do you do when the fish hits it with the circle hook

  • @dylan1094

slowly start reeling in, feeling for him to take it... makes him hook himself

  • thanks for all of the help they don't have no roll sinkers here i usually use egg sinkers but i might get a no roll sinker mold, once again thanks for the help

  • @dylan1094

as long as you have a circle hook, preferably octopus circles work the best they will hook them selves and run off with it then CHACHING! you gotta fish

  • do you keep your line tight or leave slack in it

  • @dylan1094

    TIGHT!

  • @AverageFisherman i seen rigs like that where the catfish picks it up whith slak in your line and goes away with it ant when your line gets tight no need to wait to set the hook he has took it al ready only works with circle hooks though

  • Great vids Bro! Your knot vids are the best on youtube.

  • What is so different to a normal ground rig? Maybe in the US this rig is something special, but we in germany use this technic for generations.

  • @Thorralf83

nothing is "special" about it, and it's not a "new" rig. this rig has been around FOREVER!! im just showing people how to do it....

but glad to hear you guys in Germany know how to rig a fishing rod... thats good news, i was worried

  • @AverageFisherman haha thorr the fishing nazi

  • @AverageFisherman hey bud, where do u get the weights from, i can not find weights like that in canada. and ur weight was 5 ounces, what is the average weight of the catfish u catch down in ur state?

  • it works great man

  • thanks man this vid. has been very helpful to me now i have a new (easy) way to rig my poles

  • it works great!! I use this rig all the time

  • OKay, I just totally learned something really important!!! Thanks!!!

  • I am thinking of trying this setup instead of "bottom bouncing" for rainbow trout in the rivers up here in Canada.

What would you use to keep the bait off the bottom ? ( worms and roe )

  • a marshmellow

  • da will work on red fish..

  • whats the best hooks to use with cut bait and will give me the best hold?

  • circle hooks

  • i've used trebles to my best advantage it really depends on what your going for, if it's freshwater predatory fish such as walleye and such i'd go with circle, i'm more for big game such as pike and muskie, i use medium sized bleeding bait trebles not sure what the number size is but they're about half the zise of paddlefish snagging hooks.

  • would it be good to put beads at either side of the weight ?

  • some ppl do, i dont think it's worth the trouble

  • hey averagefisherman will this rig work for smaller channel catfish in little rivers?

  • absolutely!

  • thanks for answering me ive learned a lot from watching your videos! in fact most of the knots i use i learned from watching you.i would love to go fishing with you and slap, for some big cats......

  • thanks for the kind words Bro. if you live in the area hit us up

  • i live in Texas!never been that far north.

the rivers up there are a little too big for me.lol

  • you taught me how to tie a carolina rig! Thanks G

  • that no role sinker shit worked grewt man thanks

  • wut u use as bait 4 catfish

  • nightcrawlers

  • would this work the ocean and trout?

  • you guys got stripers(stripped bass not strippers) where ur at?

  • hey hows it goin averagefisherman whats the difference between the Tex and the Carolina ? i use the carolina but they seem the same i like urs but i prefer the bullet wait and a snapnswivel for quiker and easier bait changes but then again i live in illinois were the waters are colder and way merkyer...sorry bout the bad spellin i had a few beers

  • hey i got a pole like that but im not sure if i tie the know on the metal circle thing right or not

  • i just tried that rig out on a river worked great 4 catfish and a lot of carp!!

  • Damn!!!!!!!...You sound just like Patrick Swayze....good vid...thedrunkmonk69the2nd is on the money.

  • your like the 3rd person to say that... i dont hear it, but i guess so

  • im just an average fisherman myself and a another good way for carolina rig is to actually put a snap swivel on the line first then u can easily remove your weight without cutting line just in case the current is faster or slower than normal.and u can take them off during the trip from and 2 ur fishing hole so they dont bounce off your pole

  • good tip.. ive done that myself, but i prefer the sinker itself to slide up the line... when attached to a swivel it tends to tangle up when casted

  • i agree, I use the no-rolls but i use a palomar to a snap swivel incase i want to change the style of hook

  • Hey should I use a bead between the sinker and the swivle? If so Y?

  • alotta ppl do, i dont.... the reason ppl use it is so the sinker hitting your knot can cause knot to fray/break

  • Average fisher dewd-simple and to the point-that is the object of the instructional video-I enjoy all of the videos

  • thanks bro

  • nice vids

  • thanks

  • what lb test is ure main line and ure leader line?

  • cool vids. u sound a bit like patrick swazye :)

  • when fishing this rig does your line need to be tight or does it matter?

  • i try to ALWAYS keep a tight line

  • dude i cant find those no rolls anywhere will a egg sinker work as good cause we got bass pro shop, academy and other little bait shops and none of them have none! just egg sinkers

  • they will work, but they will roll.... no rolls do just that... no rolling

  • When you are using a carolina rig, is it crucial to use circle hooks when you're cattin? since they hook themselves and run with it compared to having them steal it with a king kahle?

  • i pretty much ALWAYS use the carolina rig, except when ifshing heavy snag areas

  • this is the only rig i use for catfishing...i am i putting the no-roll on backwards if i put it the other way?i put a bead under the sinker to protect that knot other wise the sinker destroys it...

  • Awesome video, this and also your knot vids, Just what I was looking for....Thanks

  • can you snell hooks for like panfishin' or just catfishn'?

  • anything u want

  • Great tips, I know you say you like the palomar knott for braided line but why do you prefer the snell on the hook, why not the clinch knott if your using the clinch on the swivel? Just curious thanks for the tips.

  • because (if you watch my "how to snell a hook video") snelling a hook holds the hook STRAIGHT, and keeps it from twisting

  • i like how you said the palomar is the only one that doesnt slip with the braid, i was using 15lb power pro a while back and when my line broke on a fish, my whole rig came off clean because the swivel slipped off the braid. makes me wonder what kinda knot i was usin. have you ever tried that double improved clinch? i think its also called the rivers inlet knot i have been using on mono and it works good.

  • yea, i have the how to on that knot also

  • we call that a "double hook rig"

we use it for BIG LIVE BAIT... stick one hook in the head, and one in the back/tail. that way if the fish hits the front he gets hooked, or if he takes from the back he gets hooked

  • bitchin and whinin about hooks---fish and shut up or go play golf ...good informative video..thanks

  • who was bitchin about hooks?

  • Good video but it looks as if your sinker was upside down,

  • there is no right side/wrong side to put them on.... i saw a guy do his like this once, and they seem to find bottom better... although it doesnt matter much

  • boooooooooo.....circle hooks!!!!!

lol....some swear by them...others hate them...

I hate 'em....setting the hook is part of the experience...letting him hook his self takes at least some of the fun out of it!

    Another good how to...

  • only ppl i ever met who doesnt like them dont know how to use them.

letting the fish hang himself doesnt take any of the fun out of it for me.. he sure doesnt jump in the boat after he hooks himslf. you like missing/losing fish dont use circle hooks, but if you want to IMPROVE YOUR CATCH RATE (which is what im here to help ppl do) you will use circle hooks

  • ;-)

What's not to know? Let the fish hook himself... Might as well get one of those automatic reels and a underwater cameras too. Make it even more fool proof.

I guarantee to anyone that reads this: set the hook in a nice one and feel that first burst of power and you will never want to use circle hooks again......or use a circle hook, let him fold the pole over, pick it up out the rod holder and reel him in.....still awesome...just not as awesome....

  • you gotta ask yourself.... do you want to catch fish, or miss fish.... thats what it boils down to! i fish to CATCH FISH, and i show ppl HOW TO CATCH FISH (or atleast how i do it) if you want to set the hook have @ it Bro..... dont let me tell you how to fish

  • either way you fish (circle hooks/khale hooks or what have you) the fish STILL FIGHTS, and you got to have good rigs and good knotts... thats all i try to teach ppl...

  • Absolutely right...the fight is still fun.

  • did ur other account get exspelled

  • suspended

  • need to teach me some of this stuff next time we go fishin

  • it's easy.... video should explain it all

  • good vid!

  • thanks Steve
