In the UK this is known as a 'Running Ledger' and has been used as a sea and fresh water rig for generations. Usually used with a larger bait for larger bottom feeding fish.
i am 12 and because of you i won 2 cat fishing tournaments i and probably wouldn't have won with out our tips your my favorite youtube fisherman and i caught the biggest blue cat i have ever caught with with your Carolina rig it was 20 pounds so thanks average fisherman
hey averagefisherman - thanks for posting this video, over here in aus we call it just a running sinker but its good to see exactly how to do it properly.
That is a badass rig. I always wondered as a kid what a catfish would do if he took the bait then felt resistance and poking from hooks. I will be using this on my next cat trip.
this is the first video of yours ive seen suprisingly, and man, you make it clear on everything. i like the presentation at the end of how to do it. just rigged up my poles like that, ill try it out in about a week. i subbed by the way.
hey y is ur sinker around backwards does it help let line out better/i do it the other way ouround with the sinker faceing the other way/comment or tell us any differences
thanks for all of the help they don't have no roll sinkers here i usually use egg sinkers but i might get a no roll sinker mold, once again thanks for the help
as long as you have a circle hook, preferably octopus circles work the best they will hook them selves and run off with it then CHACHING! you gotta fish
@AverageFisherman i seen rigs like that where the catfish picks it up whith slak in your line and goes away with it ant when your line gets tight no need to wait to set the hook he has took it al ready only works with circle hooks though
@AverageFisherman hey bud, where do u get the weights from, i can not find weights like that in canada. and ur weight was 5 ounces, what is the average weight of the catfish u catch down in ur state?
i've used trebles to my best advantage it really depends on what your going for, if it's freshwater predatory fish such as walleye and such i'd go with circle, i'm more for big game such as pike and muskie, i use medium sized bleeding bait trebles not sure what the number size is but they're about half the zise of paddlefish snagging hooks.
thanks for answering me ive learned a lot from watching your videos! in fact most of the knots i use i learned from watching you.i would love to go fishing with you and slap, for some big cats......
hey hows it goin averagefisherman whats the difference between the Tex and the Carolina ? i use the carolina but they seem the same i like urs but i prefer the bullet wait and a snapnswivel for quiker and easier bait changes but then again i live in illinois were the waters are colder and way merkyer...sorry bout the bad spellin i had a few beers
im just an average fisherman myself and a another good way for carolina rig is to actually put a snap swivel on the line first then u can easily remove your weight without cutting line just in case the current is faster or slower than normal.and u can take them off during the trip from and 2 ur fishing hole so they dont bounce off your pole
dude i cant find those no rolls anywhere will a egg sinker work as good cause we got bass pro shop, academy and other little bait shops and none of them have none! just egg sinkers
When you are using a carolina rig, is it crucial to use circle hooks when you're cattin? since they hook themselves and run with it compared to having them steal it with a king kahle?
this is the only rig i use for catfishing...i am i putting the no-roll on backwards if i put it the other way?i put a bead under the sinker to protect that knot other wise the sinker destroys it...
Great tips, I know you say you like the palomar knott for braided line but why do you prefer the snell on the hook, why not the clinch knott if your using the clinch on the swivel? Just curious thanks for the tips.
i like how you said the palomar is the only one that doesnt slip with the braid, i was using 15lb power pro a while back and when my line broke on a fish, my whole rig came off clean because the swivel slipped off the braid. makes me wonder what kinda knot i was usin. have you ever tried that double improved clinch? i think its also called the rivers inlet knot i have been using on mono and it works good.
we use it for BIG LIVE BAIT... stick one hook in the head, and one in the back/tail. that way if the fish hits the front he gets hooked, or if he takes from the back he gets hooked
there is no right side/wrong side to put them on.... i saw a guy do his like this once, and they seem to find bottom better... although it doesnt matter much
only ppl i ever met who doesnt like them dont know how to use them.
letting the fish hang himself doesnt take any of the fun out of it for me.. he sure doesnt jump in the boat after he hooks himslf. you like missing/losing fish dont use circle hooks, but if you want to IMPROVE YOUR CATCH RATE (which is what im here to help ppl do) you will use circle hooks

I guarantee to anyone that reads this: set the hook in a nice one and feel that first burst of power and you will never want to use circle hooks again......or use a circle hook, let him fold the pole over, pick it up out the rod holder and reel him in.....still awesome...just not as awesome....
you gotta ask yourself.... do you want to catch fish, or miss fish.... thats what it boils down to! i fish to CATCH FISH, and i show ppl HOW TO CATCH FISH (or atleast how i do it) if you want to set the hook have @ it Bro..... dont let me tell you how to fish
either way you fish (circle hooks/khale hooks or what have you) the fish STILL FIGHTS, and you got to have good rigs and good knotts... thats all i try to teach ppl...
what rod do you throw that rig on?

wouldn't an egg-float placed 1.5-2" from the hook help keep the bait off the bottom..or does the bait actually drift up enough without the egg-float?

@Thorralf83
nothing is "special" about it, and it's not a "new" rig. this rig has been around FOREVER!! im just showing people how to do it....

good tip.. ive done that myself, but i prefer the sinker itself to slide up the line... when attached to a swivel it tends to tangle up when casted

i agree, I use the no-rolls but i use a palomar to a snap swivel incase i want to change the style of hook

Great tips, I know you say you like the palomar knott for braided line but why do you prefer the snell on the hook, why not the clinch knott if your using the clinch on the swivel? Just curious thanks for the tips.
kittywoowoo 3 years ago
because (if you watch my "how to snell a hook video") snelling a hook holds the hook STRAIGHT, and keeps it from twisting
AverageFisherman 3 years ago

letting the fish hang himself doesnt take any of the fun out of it for me.. he sure doesnt jump in the boat after he hooks himslf. you like missing/losing fish dont use circle hooks, but if you want to IMPROVE YOUR CATCH RATE (which is what im here to help ppl do) you will use circle hooks
