I agree "apricotlush" not bad for 57 years of age....i'm not a great fan of Domingo, but i think it's always important to remember his great contribution to the art form.
Is this during the time Domingo was having some vocal problems and had to relearn his technique ? He sounds a little strangled, esp. in the high range. I don't think it's age, since opera singers can sing beautifully well into their later years, as Domingo has done, since they actually have technique and don't just blast their cords all to hell. I do love his acting in this role.
Oh God, how disappointing. The difficult parts he sang in only TWO breaths 10 years ago - now the dramatic parts became like a boring routine, short, without soul and without a good voice anymore - what a crap performance! He became old...
Damn, he became old, not half the length in the difficult phrases nor the intensity we are used from the decades before. Same as the late Pavarotti, a pure shadow of himself. :o/
Don't Get me wrong Domingo is incredible! but i just preffer Pavarotti's voice and phrasing. It's just a personal thing. As far as talent tho I hold them both equal.
Ciao!
Hahahahaha! I saw the "Michael Bolton-Celeste Aida" video. Everyone, please, you must search for "Florence Foster Jenkins" on Youtube and listen to her Mozart. It's even more incredible! :)
Maestro! Please come and sing at the Bolshoi Zal at the Moscow Conservatory!! Kremlin tickets (some of them) are more expensive than the 1 month's salary of a Moscow Conservatory professor and it's inhumane to come to Moscow and students cannot afford to hear you!
I completely agree. Please don't forget his decades of incredible hard work, endurance, professionalism, and dedication! The Maestro's voice may be older, it is still beautiful and his musicality is shining from his experience, wisdom, and character.
Well said!! The Maestro deserves every honour and good words until his death! I doubt that the person who wrote "his prime ended in 1994-1996" will EVER be able to sing as beautifully and musically as Domingo, when the Maestro turns 95 or even 100! How can you say such a thing, if your own prime will never even touch Domingo's worst? Shame on you!
Just because he has become old, people, DON'T GIVE HIM A LOWER RATING!! The maestro still sings wonderfully, and give him some credit for the decades of amazing performances!
Did someone say domingo did not have a great technique?? all i can say to that is LOL. Listen to sing in a tessitura that was not natural to him for more than 40 years says to me tremendous technique, unless of course you have some other explanation. And also this rendition of vesti has to be twice as good as any tenor who is singing it nowadays! As domingo got older he tailored his acting on this part to suit his age. An old old man would feel this bad!!

Never had good technique, has a beautiful voice, but can sing because he is strong as an OX!!! And man can he do business... best opera business man ever, really knew how to sell himself!!!
