  • That's a tough one to answer. I'm using a 1000w Novatron box with 4 heads and it has always been enough for my needs. If you are trying to light up a big ballroom or church, more power might come in handy. For regular studio stuff, it doesn't take a ton.

I would suggest that you find a local supplier and buy from them - rather than look for the best price online. It might cost you a little more, but its worth it to have someone guide you through the process. Good luck!

  • How much watts do you need ? I have seen a kit that has two softboxes that are 1000w each and they called the lights quartz I think. Are those any good or powerfull enough and what color light is the quartz ?

  • Hi, i was wondering, is a softbox and a omni bounce kind of like the same thing? Meaning, is the outcome the same using either products?

  • @PrettyTattiiex3 Well I guess they are both "light modifiers" - so in that sense they are similar. The idea is taking the light and trying to affect the quality of it (hard light vs soft light).

  • Nice tutorial. Would have been nice to show some sample shots of the outcome.

  • @trinhk Thanks for the comment- yeah I probably should have added some images. Thanks for the suggestion - I'll try to work that in next time.

  • Informative video thanks alot

  • Your videos Rock.

Could you give a tutorial on the smaller size needed to light a full body?

Also the silver or white interior when the soft box is bigger does one gives better light?

    Thank You

  • @ErwinListSanchez Mine has a silver interior. A white interior probably gives a slightly softer quality of light, but also a slightly lower level of output. Not a huge difference either way.

  • im only seeing your reply now!! Still getting used to You Tube lol.. Thankyou

  • Keep the videos coming your fantastic at describing everything!! its like your reading my mind, I've so many questions and your website has got all my answers :-))

  • Thanks for the kind words! More videos on the way - so check back!

  • can i use the softbox on a subject while on a greenscreen

  • @petenicezz Sure- but you might still have to light the background with a separate light to get the right levels

  • @petenicezz Sure. If you feather it you can get a nice even light which is great for the green screen.

  • does fluorescent consume more electricity than incandescent light? And which light is better for like macro cause i don't want to buy a speedlight for that

  • Thanks Marcin- we will definitely have some with images in future tutorials. I was just trying to get the concept across with this one - using the modeling light. I'll definitely keep it in mind for future ones!

  • talking and showing is good but pictures are a must. hopefully you will show real examples next time for a complete tutorial.

  • Useful tutorial but where are the pictures?

  • @ASABOGAL There aren't any pictures from this - you can see the lighting on my face from the modeling lights. I just wanted to show how moving around the softbox changes the light on the face. Give it a try and see how it work. I think you will like it!

  • I just got my first soft-box so this came at just the right time. Thank you!

  • Very useful tutorial, thanks.

  • that's a HUGE soft box I haven't seen one like that before, not anywhere nearly that big. is that something you made or is that professional equipment? i usually use my soft boxes in tandem but trying to find something to better light the back drop also now. looking into LED Can lights but because those are so much brighter and a little harsher light i have to find a diffusable can to put it in. only using LED because of power concerns.

  • @daddytech The softbox is made my Larson. It is 3x4 feet. They actually make one that is 6 feet! If you can find the budget for it, you will LOVE the results!

  • @LourceyPhotography wow! actually i thought my 2 36" ones were pretty good sized or at times too big themselves. still just amazed at the size of that thing.

  • Cheers

  • Nice job.
