  • I love seeing professionals learn something. It makes them seem a bit more human. :)

  • Anyone knows what's song of the intro???? HEEEELP!!!

  • @petruccisv Caustic are the ties that bind

  • John Sweeptrucci

  • 2:27 Pacman! :D

  • LEGENDA POR FAVOOOR!

  • @GarotosDeSuburbio aprende ingles!

  • love this videos!!

  • How to attend this class?

  • mat heafy is very very good but he isn't john "god" petrucci =)

  • That moment when you want to watch this vid again and have to search your browsing history by "Hea" as in Heafy because there are too many results searching by "Petr".

  • the face of John when Matt does the sweeps is awesome. He just smiles, like he's realy enjoying see Matt playing...

  • John Petrucci "from Dream Theater"

Somehow, I find the aforementioned within quotation marks should incur in a communicational mistake under the concept of redundancy.

For Your sake, we know you.

(notice the capitalized "Your", hope you'll get it)

  • Almost too much awesomeness fpr one video... one of my favorite newer guitarists and the god of guitar himself going over sweep picking techniques

  • John Petrucci's voice sounds just like Toby from The Office.

  • eisai enas ka8igitis re gamw ta!!!!!john we lov yaa!!

  • I love Matt but John just shitted on him lol

  • @2:26 the return of the PACMAN!

  • I love the way Matt was open about his strength and weakness, and how he showed respect to John - even though both are well-known guitarists. Matt is a self-taught guitarist, he can barely read music sheets while John was professionally educated in Berklee; Matt is just 26 while John is now 44 - so I think there's no need to compare the two of them. In this series, Matt is a smart student while John is the professor, obviously.

  • Hey, guys, may I ask You about something? Well, I'm from Poland and my english is not as good as i want it to. I understand all the stuff, but even if I would watch that ten bilion times - I still can not understand that Matt's trick with the right hand on the guitar. He talk about sweap, and then grab the neck. It's sound briliant, but if he didn't use that hand, it would be less awesome? Sorry for being "knewbie", but it's great, and I want to know how to do that. Thanks for helping of course.

  • @LukosJr he puts his hand there to mute unwanted sounds.are you a guitar player?if you are,try it out.if you're not:agian, its to mute noises that you dont want,so it sounds cleaner

  • @cromaticas

Thanks, it's really clever "trick", I understood that right now, hahaha. Thanks one more time, I though no one will check some polish guy's message ;)

  • I dunno about you, but i would have died if John Approved of somthing I played :o

  • Matt is just thinking trough the video: Oh my god! Petrucci my god is just in front of me. And he's teaching me to play! GOD EXISTS!

  • this vid is short, but really informative

  • Um, WHAT THE FUCK. I post a comment stating Matt is better and people assume I have never heard John play??? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? What kind of idiot would I be to not even listen to Dream Theater and then say that, I AM A DT FAN AND TRIVIUM FAN, I don't care if you don't like Trivium, Listen to any of their albums, Matt FUCKING RULES THE GUITAR, There have been like 5 guys all saying 'LISTEN TO DT AND THEN SAY WHAT YOU SAID, FANBOY" I HAVE YOU FUCKING IDIOTS. Matts better fuck you. Trolls

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm I know i should respect your opinion but I find that difficult because you're a fucking idiot

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm i like to put cock on my pizza, you fag. go suck coreys dick you little cunt, still probably got my saliva on it

  • John Petrucci is so freaking good at the guitar.

  • Matt Heafy's face at 2:00. It's as if he was thinking in his head, "OH MY GOD, JOHN PETRUCCI LOVED IT!!!"

  • pacman at 2:28

  • Matt is so down to earth, its awesome to see a guy who is already a great guitarist still happy to learn from one of the greats

  • 1:59 Matt's so giddy when John compliments him!

  • when matts doing his sweeps at the start is there any delay or anything going through the amp? or was it just super clean? lol

  • John is the guitar guru

  • 0:39 WHAT THE FUCK is that?!?! its awesome

  • Comment removed

  • they should collaborate and make a song.they sound good together.these are my idols

  • matt is like showing off and petrucci is just thinking"i could make you give up guitar"

  • @SuperXguitar Cynicism makes you miserable.

  • @SuperXguitar rotfl

  • in the bottom right corner, you can see the coffee cup containing the chemicals that John absorbs through his hand..

  • 2 GODS!!!!!!

  • It's gonna take a while to find my jaw. It dropped now I can't find the fucker..

  • Matt's face: PRICELESS

    2:40

    LOL!!!

  • 3:40 -- "It's very easy" -- yeah, if you're John Petrucci...

  • @surgeyX I completely agree... this is the fucking point... to petrucci all the stuff is ver easy

  • Slowing it down and using a metronome is such a pain in the ass though..it seriously is...It's real frustrating too, especially when you get right to that point where you got it on the previous BPM but at the higher one you can't get it clean enough.

  • Jesus is taking a disciple.

  • Guitar Theatre = Petrucci teaching Heafy. I have a lot of time for both, though.

  • I can right away tell that Matt sees John as the "more learned" guitarist. And John sees Matt as the "learning" guitarist.

  • Caustic are the ties that bind

  • what is the title of the intro song? :D

  • @superhibur The intro song is Trivium - Caustic Are The Ties That Bind

  • matt: I tried to learn your sweeps, but i just couldnt

john: mhm (like its totally expected and normal)

    LOL

  • I love how Matt totally rocked his sweeps and then John's like "That's awesome." and then proceeded to totally own Matt.

  • Matt and John are both amazing guitar players, I couldn't say my favourite of the two, but at that you can't compare as John is more melodic and experienced than Matt who is more of a rhythm player.

  • Matt kept doing shit John wasn't ready for and then every time John did something, Matt turned the volume off but imitated it perfectly, he didn't want to upstage him. John may be a guitar god but Matt is in his early 20's and can do even more. Not that it is a competition but I am tired of seeing people call Matt a bad guitar player, he is a fucking GOD.

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm can do more than JP?! haha, dude, wake up. sweeping is nothing, it's just mindless practise, something that John has said he's not that into. that guy can't pick fast worth shit.

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm You think John can't do basic three-string sweeps? Wow. Listen to the sweeps from The Glass Prison. COMPLETELY out of Matt's league. Don't get me wrong, I like Heafy's playing a lot. But you are completely wrong if you think he outclasses John in any aspect of guitar, at least from a technical standpoint.

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm man i am a fan of both but please being a fan boy is the worst. Matt is all about speed just like most modern "Shredders". John is far more superior with the guitar.

Go listen to Count of Tuscany or Change of Seasons(if you have 25mins to spare) and then tell me Matt is better... How can you say Matt played in perfectly when you cant hear him.

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm oh yea btw these vids aren't competition. They are meant to be lessons for the viewers...

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm Douchebag comment

  • If it feels like, that in any point it´s not coming, like, it´s not right

    kill yourself

  • If you listen really closely , theres a police horn sound starting from 1:12

  • @IceWaterColdWater LMAO! I heard it! XD

  • I love how John is just schooling Matt the entire video.

  • @DarknessNezumi

John's a fucking legend though. As good as matt is, that shit at 2:45 is *extremely* hard to do. I've been playing for around 15 years and I can barely play that shit...I suck and I'm prob not the best example...but still, that shit is super hard.

  • @DarknessNezumi because he is god remember?

  • @DarknessNezumi Well who wouldnt take that advantage

  • @DarknessNezumi

Matt treats him like he is his teacher, too.

  • : O

  • I transcribed this video if anyone wants to learn it. The video is on my channel. I play it fast first then slow.

  • I WANT TO LEARN FROM JOHN PETRUCCI TOO

  • why is the noob with tattos always playing ? he´s annoying jp

  • The Legendary Matt Heafy pinky.. We meet again...

  • both of them are awesome down to earth , its how musicians should be

  • 3:40 its very easy

hammet plays that in creeping death solo

ive never been able to play it

  • jajajaja xD i still think MH is better xD

  • @onibaku3 Not sure if retarded or not

  • @onibaku3 poor soul.... HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • looks like the cops are chasing someone at 1:10

  • Comment removed

  • i feel like there's a hidden guitar battle happen there

  • Matt is trying to not upstage John, listen to any album by Trivium or watch them live, also Trivium is about half the age of their idols and even better. But it is so cool to see 2 gods of guitar jamming, fucking awesome!

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm Matt is not better than John. He's an awesome metal guitarist but John is more versatile.

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm You must be trollin'.

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm what a false estimation, you're way off!

  • I prefer the 3 string form that john uses... is kinda easier but very effective for me (as I am not such a great sweeper)

  • They both rule i'm really glad to see those guys 2gether... fuck competition, it's better to have the master showing you stuff than having him competing you :S Cheers

  • "That.... is gonna take some time"

  • pertrucci is nearly yawning at him!

  • 3:03 matt heaffy is falling back like! what the fuck is john doing there hahahaha fuckin awesome

  • "That....is gonna take some time." Hahah, he knows who the master is!

  • Seriously how much did yer man have to pay Petrucci for these lessons? Didnt know JP had the time for 1 on 1's.

  • Not much of a Trivium fan, but these videos have greatly increased my respect for Matt Heafy.

  • Damn, I have the same problem as Matt! I feel like i don't pick the B string during 3 string sweeps!

  • John is so modest.

  • john ok ok ok

  • more like... JP gives Matt a lesson.

  • I love Petrucci and believe he is one of the most fucking brutally talented guitarists ever, I truly do, but people need to give Matt more credit. He's a fantastic musician and gets too much shit by people who can't even compete with him.

  • @MajorPonch

Because of his "Betcha can't play this"....

  • @0Erazoender0 No, because of:

    Ember To Inferno

    Ascendancy

    The Crusade

    Shogun

    In Waves

But most importantly, because he's a damn good guitarist.

  • Many props to Matt for not being too egotistical to talk and listen to someone older and with more experience. That's not to say he's bad (on the contrary he's quite good!), but Petrucci is about twice his age and been on stage waaaay more in his lifetime so he certainly has some knowledge he can pass on to a younger generation. =) Great video guys!

  • World domination mode

    Killzone mode

    Pac-Man mode: 2:27

  • 3:36 - 3:38 his action is SOOOOO FREAKING LOW! :O

  • @justintime1469 I know right? Mine is like 1 cm higher lol

  • matt must've jizzed himself at 1:58 when pettruci said he loved it

  • Thumbs up if you keep hearing the Police Siren sound in the background from 1:04 forward

  • uh huh......

  • Matt's sweeps sounds like a charango XD!!!But it doesn't mean that he's a great guitar player and songwritter

  • @danielnahuelpi, yes, he is a great guitar player and writer, I love both of them and this isnt supposed to be a contest but Petrucci would not be able to play half of the shit on Trivium's albums, in fact, a lot of the best players can't play each others stuff perfectly...

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm It's not a contest, but that statement is absurd. John is the kind of musician that has proven he can emulate any guitarist, along with being completely original. Matt hasn't put the time in yet, and I hope hanging out with a true professional will motivate him.

  • @mrgrubbage519 Jamming/Playing live with Metallica, Maiden, Priest, Slayer, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Slipknot, ect, Playing 7 hours a day in his room as a kid for years. I fucking know what I am talking about, Matt has put in the time, he may not be as old but he has learned from the best, all Petrucci was doing was showing him a few alternative ways of playing things he already knows, he also doesnt give himself enough credit saying hes not good at 5-6 string sweeps and then does it perfectly.

  • @mrgrubbage519 Also as you can see in all three videos of this, every time Matt does something, Petrucci is like "WTF HOLY SHIT" you can see it all over his face. Listen to any Trivium album, they get better and better, they are not as famous as they should be because of little radio play and mainstream exposure. But Trivium are easily tied with a few other bands for best guitarists in the world I mean come on they are fucking gods. \m/

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm "WTF HOLY SHIT. I REMEMBER DOING THAT WHEN I WAS 5! >:D"

Ahh I kid. Matt and John are both AMAZING Guitarists, and have completely different styles.

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm seriously drop the fanboy attitude. Atleast listen to DT or JP own work before you state that. XD

  • @MetalMakesMeEargasm Sorry about the commentary but i realized today that I wrote it wrong ;) I wanted to say "...it doesnt mean that he's not a great player and songwritter".And the thing you said that both can't play each others stuff is because they are different players. In the music world there aren't best players, just differents with different techniques too. Both are cooler guitarists and love their stuff.Cheers and stay heavy!

  • @danielnahuelpi oh... well fuck nvm lol \m/

  • teaching in Jesus' style

  • Cool!

  • 2:35 oh yeah baby!

  • 1:17 that's my ambulance

  • "that would defenitly take a while" LOL

  • Literally as soon as Petrucci started playing it crashed Google Chrome and I had to reboot.

  • JP's mind: "Isn't that just the cutest little sweep you've ever seen?"

  • its cool to see that a great guitarplayer as Matt struggle with certain techniques

  • Matt is a really cool guy. I appreciate his respect for John. They seem like they get along well.

  • Fucking Pacman 2:29

  • JPs face at 3:46

Hahaha love it! Such a god :D

  • Mann those equipment containers look really uncomfortable to sit on..

  • Matt's sweeps sounded awesome

JP maybe had a too muffled tone in comparison... maybe...

  • never thought i will see this two together

  • Heafy's sweeps sound better than Petrucci's...

  • @MatheusManentee Some of what you're smoking please

  • @Scurr7 LOL. Don't take me wrong. I'm a huge DT fan, and I know nothing about Trivium. I don't even know the guy, but at least in this video, it's clear that Matt sounded better.

  • JP: It's very easy.

Matt: Uh... yeah... uh... no, I totally got this...

JP: (Okay, it's easy for ME. Maybe not for lesser mortals...)

  • Can't wait for a jam version of this two monstrer !

  • This is what happens when God teaches guitar!

  • hahaha Jp the genius

  • this rocks! I would love to sit with Petrucci just discussing guitar techniques and learning from the master all day

  • moar!!!!! plox!!!!!!

  • The thing Petrucci explained is very very easy, if you have been trying to sweep and got the sweeping pick motion down, and have good hand-hand coordination, you're ready to perform this technique fast already

  • @apalmalarrain that's definetly right and I actually figured it out, the problem is when you think that those exercises give you the real sweep thing and you try to play the sweep part of the Stream Of Consciousness solo and you realize that the really hard part of sweep picking is not the coordination between hands but the position shifting of the left hand and actually being able to separate the notes, and don't get me started on string skipping sweeps (god I hate them with all my heart) haha

  • 2:35

    Petrucci's world domination mode... ACTIVATE!

  • 2:27 Pac-Man!

  • Matt: that will definitely take a while..

    John: yeah..

  • What's the song in the beginning called again :|

  • @Phoenixtrite Caustic are the ties that bind - Trivium :D

  • @Phoenixtrite Built To Fall - Trivium

  • man, they make it sounds so fucking easy hahaha, it's like if they try to play for 5 minutes they can do everything hahahaha

  • Siren in the background at 1:09 after Heafy sweeps.

Imagine the carnage if Petrucci had've been sweeping, the building would've collapsed.

  • @JSmithTheAxeMan Petrucci, the Chuck Norris of guitar.

  • Both are excellent players, they play in great bands, their music inspire a lot of people & bands

  • 3:40 "... it's very easy" yeah right!

  • petrucci!!

  • JP: right right yea right yea right ok

  • GIbson Les Paul Vs Ernie Ball MM.Jp.

  • It's beautiful... so, Heafy put attention (in a very careful way) to the Maestro Petrucci!!!.

  • It is awesome to see great musicians get together and share different styles and techniques

  • Ok,it was supposed to be funny when you put them in the same paragraph

  • Butthead : "No Shit !!!!"

  • Beavis : "Whoa !! This is Heavy !!!!"

  • wow. this is very cool i wanna see more of this ! i love to see the different styles kind of clash and build off of each other.

  • What are these two doing together? Two totally different styles...

  • @Jartny the speak the same lenguage bro...its called Music:)
