Thank you for reminding me. The black Madonna has already been dark skinned because Mary and the Christ child were from the Mediterranean area. Until about the 5th century, paintings of the Holy Family showed them with olive skin tones. After that, paintings depicted them as light skinned and sometimes with blue eyes. I should have mentioned this. However, the entire painting has darkened from the fires and from the candles.
