  • HDH aka Holland Dozier Holland were truly genius that backgroup was beautiful and fit for Mary and especaily Florence and what beautiful Lyrics Diana delivers

and in my personal opinion after Florence and then the HDH team left the group wasnt the same at all!

  • i think if the symphony orchestra played it would have a better effect. however it's still good

  • Thanks for posting--you can actually hear Flo and Mary on this one. Ms. Thing's mic is still turned up over theirs, of course.

  • Flo had such presence!

  • i never get tired of this song

  • When a list is comprised of the best Supremes songs why do I never see "I hear a symphony" This is without a doubt one of their best and definitely one of Diana's best vocal performances.

  • I love this performance by the gurrrls . . . . also love the unique orchestra setting . . . . frozen in time . . . Diana, just can't take your eyes off her . . .

  • @paul51 Check out Flos notes on 2:42-3-4 and the arms raised palms out..chk out dianes arms up palms up..even marys arms raised. that is a Supremes Move. lol..but got to admit..Flo is blowing the hell out of that last note..wow..i really wish she had help on the alcohol.and didnt have such a bitter break up from motown. she did have a good voice..but bad timing. imagine if she had waited until diane left.and came back. or just waited. Diana was leaving.anyone could see that right here.

  • my favorite supremes song

  • i always wonder how flo would have fared during the hits and especially this song. as the repeat backgrounds you can hear flo's range. i like her soprano notes

  • I feel like everyone else..it's an Motown milestone....they ruled the airwaves when I was a kid....the 60's were the best time for music..wish I had seen them live!

  • fantastic !!!

takes me back to a time of REAL music...with harmony, style, class...

wow. the '60's were an awesome time for music

    many thanks for the memories!!!

  • Diana always changed the styles of her wigs, but I have noticed that the mary and flo aways had the same styles.

  • One of their better songs. And not the usual record version but with the sax, a bit jazzed-up. Very nice.

  • The emotion this invokes cannot be touched by any song I have heard these un-classic cookie cut out artists of today.

  • flos voice really really stands out in the background. simly marvelous

  • their harmonies were pretty tight at the end there. i never noticed their harmonies and hight notes till lately. i viewed that they studied to opera singers

  • The Supremes and a fabulous full orchestra: Supreme!!!

  • I Love this song...Forever!!!!!! Timeless ~ Always ~

  • Poised classy ladies with the voices to match.

    Thanks for posting.

  • give me a break...it doesn't get any better than this!

  • @firesidechet It sure doesn't!!!

  • gotta love flo and mary

  • Excellet!

  • The lady with the violin at the very beginning looks a lot like Barbara Eden...Don't think that was her, though...

  • This is so Classic wish i could go back to that time and see them perform.

  • Flo Ballard really moved beautifully.

  • What show was this preformed on? I think The Marvelettes preformed just after The Supremes.

  • never get tired if this supremes song, so supreme, so sophisticated. got the LP last month, need to hear it soon

  • ya. unfortunately nothing can compare to flo, mary and di

  • this is beautiful.

  • this is beautiful.

  • They did this so Beautiful. Wish we still had groups like this around today. I know the times have to change but sometimes it is not always for the best. They were a Great Group. Always will be.

  • @cleaningtim i agree. it's a gorgeous song, wish there was more of this stuff around now..

  • ...when you hear symphonics you know you are amused with someone.

  • Why can't three African American women do this again today?

You know go all out, sign to a record label, and become famous?

  • @SinclairisCool 1.) Why does it have to be "African American" women? 2.) They don't have the music writers, or directors with enough talent to write songs like this anymore, 3.) The recording companies/labels are in financial chaos, and refuse to take chances on anything that isn't formulaic, and a "sure thing." 4) There is no longer any "7 album" deals in the music industry. If you don't have a million plus seller first out, your toast!

  • @jsbach15...i agree and the movers/shakers have a good sense about what is going to

    sell.

  • @jsbach15 "There is no longer any "7 album" deals in the music industry. If you don't have a million plus seller first out, your toast!" complete lie. Look at Flo & The machine. They didn't have a million seller in there first week. But anyway, thats beside the point. I said "Three African American Woman" because, lets face it, there are two many white people on the market. And, it would be authentic

  • that curtsey....SO CUTE.....thank GOD DR didn't let anyone MESS with her style: big mouth, wide eyes....arm gestures....LOVE IT...LOVE THE SUPREMES!!!!!!!!!!

  • Diana's best wig by far

  • :) i <3 this group.

  • Im 24, and was brought up with Northern soul and Motown and thinks most of it wipes the floor with todays 'music'...Love it

  • just fabulous..am over 70 and I still sure love this song..how great they were..or maybe still are.

  • A truly beautiful song that captures so wonderfully the feelings of the heart that everyone longs to feel.

  • Classics are timeless.

  • DIANA IS AWESOME!!!

  • yea this is pretty good, classic in fact

  • Yes!

  • this song, literally, brings tears to my eyes. i't's the perenial love song. Just

beautiful. Everything about this song, and this rendition is excellent.

  • I grew up in Detroit, just when MOTOWN was making it BIG. This is my favorite original "Supremes" song; second is "Baby Love."

  • Although I have made what my be observered as negative remarks on other sites pertaining to this group- There is no misunderstanding that these are in fact the one and only Supremes. Not DR & the, but the one and only- SUPREMES.

  • @LICHBKLYN

    I couldn't agree more!!!

  • Mary Wilson was/is the most beautiful woman in show biz.

  • thank,s Lexie!!!!!!!

  • Vocally, this is their best performnace of the song. Ross's voice sounds much fuller than usual (she's miked properly, for one thing)

  • I agree with you. When Florence sang that last note, I could have fell out my chair lol.

  • I wait to hear Florence and Mary sing their "Wooos!" You can really hear their voices on this recording; too precious! 10+ stars!

  • JS Bach15

    Well said

  • Beautiful song...and their voices are amazing

  • I couldn't have said it better.

  • Thank you for the archives!!!!

This is incredible and brings back wonderful memories of this great group.

  • You can really hear the great voices of Flo & Mary. When they go...OOOO, I get the chills! WONDERFUL! 10+ stars!

  • How sexier can Diana get on this video!!! This is one of her striking moments!

  • I saw this the first time when I was 12. God I loved this group then and I love them now. I agree with kurtzupreme, what else can you say but "BEHOLD THE LEGENDARY SUPREMES."

  • I was born 2 days after this was broadcast (10/20/65)

  • i was 48 years old when this song came out. what a classic.

  • how old r u now lolz

  • how old are you now ?

  • Remember when we flew North Central Airlines in the olden days and in the brochure it said "welcome to Michigan - the home of the Tigers and the Supremes?". That came to mind watching this.... Michigan has always been proud of the Supremes.

  • Happy Birthday mum , made for you only xxxxxxxxxxxx love you forever r.i.pxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I love this..Where was this done????

  • only my 2nd time hearin this...i really like it

  • Total perfection!!!

  • Behold the legendary SUPREMES!!!!!!!

  • Music was music then, and there was no song greater than this one. The Supremes were the tops, and Diana Ross' voice is like no other in history. The best!

  • is there a better american female group out there than the supremes?

  • Simply...NO

  • MAN oh MAN. CHRISTMAS 65 i believe. THIS song!!! did they KNOW how EXCELLENT it is? did they KNOW of its BRILLIANCE in every way? have to say YES, because MOTOWN did not believe in mediocrity. and thank GOD for that: for raising the bar. thank GOD just like the crescendo in THIS song that rises HIGHER & HIGHER we never have to forget that there was a time when EXCELLENCE was encouraged, welcomed and EXPECTED. LONGGG live MOTOWN!!! gotta say it: i LOVE the SUPREMES but DIANA ROSS is the BEST!!!

  • i love this song so much. and that performance was great.

  • Was that Barbara Eden? also what is this from?

  • to my mum, rip sandra we love and miss you so much sleep tight xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Thanks for sharing this. Aren't they wonderful? Must be the definitive Supremes song. Bravas, Supremes!

  • Watch Flos' "Pearl Bailey" hearty laugh after she is given the flowers at 2:55. Love the original Supremes!

  • marys voice is flos echo jajaja

  • Really does anyone hear Mary? I really never hear her. GO FLO!!!!

  • My favorite part of this video is hearing Flo's amazing voice!

  • @askmewhy51 mine too

  • I'm major Anthony Nelson and I want Jeannie playing the violin to bring BACK the Supremes..

  • I love this song too, except for the line "I cry not for myself but for those who never felt the joy we felt". When you're in love, you don't worry about others feeling the same thing as you, everybody feels their own thing. // It's funny, the orchestra isn't playing.

  • There is nothing wrong with that line because it actually means that there was an enormous amount of joy in the love that she feels others should have the same joy which is why she crys

  • Is that Flo on the high note at the end? She definitely had some chops. She easily drowns them out. Are there any other songs where she brings her voice out like that?

  • yes it was flo

for her it was a NORMAL note xD if you ever heard her at the end of "not no I'll tell you later" together with the temptations at the end it was amazing

or at the ballad "(Let Me Hear You Say) I Love You"

    it's amazing

  • beautiful!

  • her vocals are better and soulful in this performance

  • outstanding

  • This is one of my favorite songs by these lovely angels(SUPREMES)They don.t make music like this anymore. I heat Flo

singing that high note. She rocks and Mary is holding her own as well.

  • Ms. Ross rocked the lead baby. Always on point.

  • Yes she did and looks sexy as i dont know what

  • they all did gud here i like this clip.

  • i like the symphony in the backgropund but i think they should have played the whole song. but cool set and at the end i had the feeling they were trying to make it look like an opera after the end note and the flowers

  • I used to listen to this version on you tube a lot, then it was taken down. Glad to see it's back. It's a great recording and video.

  • Ross is truly in good voice here. And Flo is just powering through. Thanks!

  • Flo owned the song =D

    exspecially the ending.

I love this performecence sooo great

    thx for reposting mr SupremeGL

  • i agree

  • yeees
