The problem back then was that WMBD wasn't TRUE stereo, according to their engineer. I remember taking a tour of the station back in '89. They told us that they were merely using a faux stereo generator that separated the left and right sounds based on their frequency. To purchase all new equipment for discrete stereo would have cost them a fortune. However, with the exception of WTVP, no other Peoria station would have stereo sound for quite a few years.
What? Really? The shocking truth revealed! Someone should retroactively sue them for their false stereo lies. Although I guess it doesn't say "true stereo"
