  • 0:20 into the video. WHO COUGHED?

  • Great vid!

  • I don't fly MD-11 because thats not balance plane....

  • when i travel from miami to cali colombia before takeoff in the airbus-320 they always turn the ceiling lights off BUT NICE VID i was wondering WHY?

  • @jefferpocketrock

That's partly because in the event of an aborted takeoff and evacuation, due specifically to a fire, they don't want any glare from artificial light to confuse passengers as to what side the fire might be on.

  • @ImmortalSynn Thanks

  • did they discontinue it? its one of the best flight systems out there besides the airbus

  • This on the Flight AY52 for Helsinki ?

  • @sasge97

Yes AY052, though not operated by MD11 anymore

  • sweet i love plane ride there awsome

  • Finnair sells all MD-11 planes to Russia! I miss you MD-11.

  • @MrCannibal96 The Best plane ever... truly my favourite... :)

  • @MrArleighBurke

    It's awesome indeed!

  • Goodbye Finnair MD-11 :-(

  • Correction...there's also a KLM taking off from Schipol also DA equipped...but i think tha'ts it

  • Perfect example of the OEM deflected aileron option upgrade - only one i could find on youtube this video is unique for that - cheers

  • what is a deflacted aileron?

  • The aileron droop on the trailing edge - it increased stability, MTOW and TO performance [dial flap 28 instead of 25] etc

Airbus uses this system on the A330/340's too

  • so theyre a bit like flaps?

  • Bingo...but it's not flap actuated, it's commanded by the flight computers i.e.. it's fly by wire, and only in TO config

  • Thanks!

  • Quite welcome

  • Aeroflot Cargo :)

  • finnair sold those md-11 to aeroflot

  • The sound of the three engines on the MD11 and DC10 will certainly be missed. Also I miss the takeoff, lumbering down the runway getting to what cockpit says V1Rotate, and V2, and then seeing how slow we are actually rotating, then climbing, from passenger window. Have yet to fly the A330 and 340. That's what Finnair flys now. Hopefully these videos will remain here.

  • I went to Osaka with a MD11 of Finnair. It's a noisy but very comfortable plane. And the Finnair's crew is very nice (sorry for my lousy English, I'm Swiss)

  • @speedomaniac00 Your English is very Good!! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @speedomaniac00 When it comes to McDonnell-Douglas planes, I prefer the MD-11 to the DC-10 due to the number of major air disasters involving the latter. Except for the ill-fated Swissair Flight 111 on Sept. 2, 1998, there have been less accident/incidents involving the MD-11 than the DC-10. Overall, the newer MD-11 seems to be a major improvement over the DC-10 in my opinion.

P.S., your English is FAR from lousy.

  • I went to Japan with an MD11 of Finnair. It's a noisy but very comfortable plane (sorry for my bad English, I'm Swiss)

  • The pollution is thick in the air.

  • 45 sec takeoff?

  • I am thinking of training 1st officer for the MD11.

I am currently a b777-200ER pilot for BA!

    both powerful aircraft!!!

  • How do youb activate the autobreaks whe they are at the RTO position?

  • retard the throttles to idle

  • Wow. That's a pretty empty cabin

  • The flaps will remain in T.O. position until the aircraft begins to speed through the retraction speed following acceleration height (usually between 1,000 and 1,500ft). It is also possible that this aircraft was flying special procedures for noise reduction- which would prolong the initial climbout. How long this takes depends on, among other factors, the weight at T.O. (TOGW).

  • I love the MD-11. I got to fly on one of SwissAir's MD-11 on the LAX- ZHS route. pretty awesome until they took it out of passenger service :(

  • great video !!!

  • It's way past Z2, there shouldn't be any flaps, or maybe there is something i don't know...

  • why didn't he retract the flaps?

  • Lol he retract flaps.

  • im jealous of you :P

i wish i could go on that flight

  • Heavy aircraft!!

  • rare footage, the passenger variant of the md-11's are very rare, but when i went to Hong Kong last summer, i saw at least 2 dozen MD-11 freighters from UPS and FeDex, i even saw about 4 DC-10's in Fedex liveries too. I didn't see any in the passenger terminal though.

  • i saw the china estern MD11 passenger jet in Singapore changi it comes there every day i only see it taxi

  • i didn't see any at Singapore Changi, i do recall a 747-100, i was in a SA 777 when i went there, nice landing, pretty much silent.

  • its around 8/9 pm it will pass by terminal 1 viewing hall and another thin our names are almost the same

  • I went on one of JAL's in 2001 from Naritta to Dallas, very fast plane :). We left 30 minute late and arrived on time the speed display was showing over 1000 km/h most of the time

  • The MD-11 is an fast aircraft but no passanger jet goes over 980km/h these days.

  • It was in 2001 when I went, but it definatly sat on over 1000 most of the way there. I've read quite a few other people on forums had the same experience. The landing at Dallas was HARSH, it was very windy and I could see all the baggage compartments flex quite alot, fast plane/bendy plane :)

  • That's odd... maybe there was some problems with the speed meter. But I bet that no MD-11 goes 1000km/h

  • Then how can it land in Dallas on time?, they were still fixing the plane for at least half an hour past when it was supposed to leave Narita airport :). Pretty sure we didn't time travel :)

  • Well, that's hard to say. But then I think that there was a heavy tailwind. I dunno :D

  • It is absolutely possible to cruise at +1000km/h on many big aircraft. the indicated speed on the passenger monitor is ground speed (GS) - it can vary depending on the winds. Pilots only have to pay attention to the indicated airspeed (IAS) which is actually air resistance - on most jet aircraft at more than 330knots some parts may be damaged.. but having good tailwinds, the airspeed may be low, though the ground speed being huge..

  • oh.. well :DD okay :)

  • I was lucky enough to fly on the Finnair MD-11in Feb 2007 from HKG-BKK. OH-LGF when I went and was a real joy considering that once AY convert and sale all there aircrafts off, The only airline left will be KLM. Great aeroplane and visually has so much charactor compared to the Boeing/Airbus...Great video and engine noise from the GE's. Thanks

  • Man what a nice takeoff...good sound of engines, good video, good quality...good plane. My last MD-11 Flight will be next year July with Finnair to Bangkok.

  • my mom wouldent shut up, missed that turbine sound=[

  • I love the MD-11F they make excellent freights .

  • oh now its just sounding like in vice city. lol

  • Which Finnair MD-11 leaves the Fleet First? Is it LGD?

  • OH-LGC is leaving in a month.

  • Does someone know which exactly Finnair MD-11 leaves the fleet first? OH-LGD?

  • Comment removed

  • Now OH-LGA, OH-LGC and OH-LGE has leaved on Finnairs fleet and OH-LGG, OH-LGF and OH-LGB are active.

  • Nice vid! I love the MD-11! Is it just me, or did they leave those flaps extended too long after take-off?

  • on the md-11 you leave the flaps down until about 3000 feet agl

  • This is some seriously good work

    5 stars!

  • wow look at all that smog!

  • Menos Suomee Vai :D Pidä Hauskaa Siel, Koska Melkee Joka Päivä Sataa :D

  • finnair md-11...iv been goin on flights on it for 13 years every year, and its still not getting old

  • When the pilot puts the flaps down, do the ailerons go down by default, or does the pilot elects to put them down?

  • somw aircraft they go down when the flaps go down, i think the md11 does it automatically

  • hirveesti hukannu vaa matkalaukkuja tuo finnair, mut ens vuonna thaimaahan:)

  • just to let you know...this flight now operates from Terminal 3 as it is part of Oneworld alliance

  • i love the engines sound when the plane is going to take off, its so amazing... Just mix that sound with Indiana jone's main theme wooooooooooooooooo

  • OMG My Dad LOVE'S The sound of the engines when a plane takes off! Lol but i think its kinda annoying

  • Yea you're right. Love this sound too. I flew with MD-11 Thai Airways in 2004.

  • i luv md11!! that plane rocks and finnair too:P

  • Wow when I left Beijing 10 years ago everywhere around airport was green, now they're expanding.

  • Been on this flight as well last summer and I love the MD-11. She may be old but she climbs like a rocket!

  • Oh, it feels so good when the plane takes off.

  • so thats why theres so many in helsinki :P

  • The music Finnair plays is a nice touch. Sort of puts you in a calm, relaxed mood. Also it helps cover up noises that scare first-time fliers.

  • md11 and finnair is the best

  • yeah watch my MD11 finnair landing in flight sim

  • The DC-10/MD-11's landing gear and wing structure are quite weak, and both can break off during hard landings. (ala Martinair 1992/Fedex 1997/CI 1999) It can cause the plane to flip over.

  • dont forget Varig;)

Anyways finnair hasnt had these problems... only engine problems:D And theyre having them replaced so no worries!

  • crossfire, airworthiness directives have been issued for these door glitches and the problem is not an issue, MD-11s are an excellent aircraft to fly, a shame shotty maintenance has marked this fantastic aircraft.

  • crossfire294, with respect, you're wrong. Finnair is one of the safest airlines in the world with quite a young fleet and a maintenance regime that is up to the strictest EU standards. MD-11s were in production until quite recently and the cargo door failures you refer to happened 35 yrs ago. The MD-11s flying today have nothing in common with that early, faulty design. Other world class airlines such as KLM keep using them too.

  • Please do some research. Finnair has not had a fatal DC-10 or MD-11 accident. Secondly, the DC-10's cargo door design was changed 30 years ago. And this particular MD-11 was built in 1994, really old? I think not.

  • Mikko! KLM, Martinair and World Airways also use the MD-11 for passenger traffic today. No Russian airline uses them nor has ever used them.

Posting that "no spare parts available the plane will fall down any given day" thing is just incredible, but could well be a perfectly YouTube compatible statement.

  • Unforntately, Martinair no longer uses the MD-11 for passenger service, only cargo.

  • Electronic devices are not alowed during take off and landing!!

This proves how bad the crew of the airlines is...

I wonder how you got away with it...

  • the only eletric devices that are not permitted durring takeoff and landing are devices that give off signals such as cellphones or laptops with an internet connection. the radio waves effects the contact between the pilot and ATC.

  • It's because during takeoff the crew are also strapped up so they can't see you :)

  • HAHA the music is hysterical it's like 80s elevator music.

  • Maiden flight January 10, 1990

  • Fly MD Jets.

  • that plane is very powerful!

  • powerful takeoff

  • why the cap never retract the flaps?

  • he's chinese!!

  • Hi! I was on Finnair MD-11 last week doing the Helsinki-Bangkok and back! I had great Crew and the MD-11 is fantastic. It's not older then the newest B-747-400 from begin 90's!

  • did they tap into the radio's for everyonein the cabin to hear?

  • No they didn't, what you heard was the captain telling the flight attendants to get ready for take off (strap themselves into their seats).

  • iso kone todellakin

  • wow...does Beijing ever look polluted.

  • Yes finnair is best plane ever...best's pilot's ... i fly 3 weeks of them :D suomi on paras!

  • then you'd be dead three weeks! MD11 is one of the oldest long haul aircrafts, built on the technologies from 1970s, NO other western airlines fly them any more, Russian airline is one of the few airlines still flying them. The point is that MD11 will fall down from sky some day soon, there is almost no place to find the repair parts of the plane...

  • You don't know nothing about Finnair...

  • ever since i started flying in american airlines, they always play findind nemo. i hate that EVERYTIME

  • Finnair is the best and i´m finish and i fly the finnair..

  • Then you haven't tried other airlines! Finnair uses one of the oldest air crafts, and service staff often too proud of themselves to serve passengers who actually pay their salaries. Finnair charges more more for Finnish passengers who fly directly from Finland than those far away passengers such as Italy and Spain, they pay 20% less with an additional connecting flight from Finland. And you think Finnair is the best?1? You must be sick!

  • You don't know nothing about Finnair...

  • Qantas is oneworld. Finnair is oneworld.

  • okay thanks. and by to way i,m finish not american :D:D lol

  • finnair is the most safe airplane company after australian Qantas. it´s that true or false

  • True. Although I'd say both are safe - neither have lost a single commercial Jetliner with passengers!

  • what is the safest airline of all time in the world after finnair?? ( Australia's Qantas) maybe ???

  • It's sexy...

  • What time did theis flight depart from Beijing?

  • nice vid....not very much people on the plane! I miss Beijing Airport and the new terminal looks HUGE

  • I have flown on an American Airlines MD-11 from SJC-

NRT. Mine was quite noisy, lol. I always like to sit

in the rear of plane so i can see the wing section.

  • wat's with the long runways? ... i mean sure its an MD-11

  • I love the sound of the MD-11 engines. You get the whine from the back engine and the roar from the wing-engines. Excellent!

  • finnair is the most safe airplane company after australian Qantas.

  • no Delta air lines is the safest.

  • Delta? go and see in wikipedia "finnair", that say:

" ranking it the second-safest airline of all time (behind Australia's Qantas).[1]"

  • I love that Finnish accent. Sexy. Awesome video by the way.

  • Great video. I like Finnair and the MD11, maybe because I had one of my first flights onboard a Finnair MD11.

  • Thats very nice when you see the controls moving ont he wing. Thanks!

  • Finnair is much safer now that they got rid of that whole exploding lavatory problem. They never did find that guys unit.
