As a further thought, it's soundtracks like this and Gunstar Heroes, among many others, that demonstrate the Genesis rocked some sick tracks despite it's inferior audio capabilities. All about the composition, brodda.
Got Sparkster for one of my birthdays when I was a kid. Then I happened to glance Rocket Knight Adventures at a flea market and was all "huh? Hey! That's Sparkster!" Picked it up for $5.00, and this was during the Genesis lifecycle, so that was one hell of a deal. I rather like the throwing blades in the first one, and the corckscrew charge in the second, it makes both feel a little different.
can someone tell me if Michiru Yamane co composed the genesis version of Sparkster..i know she did the snes version, but it would be impossible that Akira Yamaoka did the entire soundtrack by himself for the sega genesis version. does someone have an answer to this please.
I have only played a little bit of rocket knight and SNES sparkster. Genesis is still my fave so far, though like the music in the snes, and Rocket knight 1 has an AWESOME boss theme^^. I will say SNES sparkster sticks closer to the rocket knight formula than Genesis sparkster^^.
@EdOscuro for once we disagree on something, I like the game for what it is, a sequel that didn't quite live up to the original but was fine on it's own merits.
Dont get me wrong,im a GENESIS/MEGA DRIVE man to my very core but the SNES version of this music rapes this one up the ass-this versions embaressing. but hey who cares....we have metropolis zone music in sonic 2 WIN
This version of this theme tops that of which is played on the SNES version of this game. For one thing, it is more lively and upbeat, as well it seems to have more of an aura of classic-epiness than in comparison to that on the SNES. Not for me to diss the SNES or Rocket Knight on the SNES, etc., etc.
The SNES version would be perfect as the theme during an intro cutscene, and the Genesis version would be perfect as the background theme to the first level.
There. Both versions of the song are equally awesome, one is just more epic and fitting for a cutscene, the other better suited for pumping up the player during the game itself.
@GmanGregilla I get ya man. The SNES version however is far more epic, deliberate, slower, and you have to admit, the SNES's sound chip, while not as catchy or snappy as the Genesis', had a far greater sound range, allowing for it to play something that actually sounds like an *orchestra*. That's quite impressive for a console that played at only 3.58 MHz.
@GreyWolfLeaderTW Indeed, the SNES has that over the Gens. I think the SNES' hardware tended to allow the SNES games' music to tend to really moderate the sound, making it sound not only more orchestral and often richer, but in many cases, considerably smoother, and typically often not nearly as sharp, disjointed, or jagged.
if any of you has ever played castlevania SOTN.listen to the theme at the beginning when richter is about to fight dracula(bloodlines) theme and then hear this theme and tell me if you hear any similarities.
beautiful music. i have loved this tune ever since i heard it the first time which was back in 1994. i dont know what anyone feels about this tune or says whatever, but this tune gives me hope that someday ill be able to achieve what ive wanted to achieve, especially the part from 0:14 to 0:23 ,like its telling you to keep your head up and not give up:D
Never heard the genesis version before!. Even though konami and snes made the best combo ever, I think this one is more earpleasing than the snes version... and it reminds me a lot of the level 2 track of Detana Twinbee... the arcade, not the pc engine version, curiously enough, also composed by Michiru Yamane :-)
I like that it's a continuation (15 yrs after the last game) and I'd be more happy if they were actually developing it, but they handed the task to developer Climax. I'll reserve judgement till I play, but I'm keeping myself from getting too excited.
All of these games were great, no matter what console they were on. A great game is a great game regardless of your fanboyism.
The first game is my fav, though. The sprites were crafted and animated the best, the music was absolutely perfect and the gameplay will never be one upped by any other sidescroller.
This tune, though, is very memorable. This is my favorite level from this game.
@laskroto77 what is so noble about slaying a herd of Dragons. Dragons are not evil creatures have you ever read the Eragon series or other books like that, or games like Dragon blade:Wraith of fire. There are good and bad Dragons just like people, plus they are amazing creatures. cut them some slack.
They are also fictional creatures so that would mean he would have to creep into someones imagination and slay dragons there, which would be awesome to watch some guy cram himself in someones ear and fight head dragons.
oh man, this version is so much better than the snes one.

Meh, they mixed it better in the Snes version.
The genisis version just sounds like it's missing half of the music.

@CBN0 I'd say that the SNES version sounds more orchestral, this sounds more like rock, both too awesome versions to compare in such a way!

@MRJayeye Sorry to disappoint you man, but I didn't get any chill bumps listening to this, its just too catchy and happy.
But the SNES version, ooh! The synthesized drums, the epic "Begin thy quest!" feeling it conveyed. Now *that* was spine tingling!
