  • This acting......is just not there lol

  • the disney version is much better

  • @grahanika oh i so agree. :)

  • @grahanika Way better

  • The guy who plays Phoebus played Jesus from Jesus of Nazareth. Just in case if people didn't know or cared.

  • I don't like Phoebus, he isn't handsome, I will be deceive by the whole movie I think, I'm going to stop watching it. sorry for my mistakes i'm french.

  • @zazinette2609 she does not end up with phoebus tho. she ends up with a hot french guy :)

  • if there is one thing i hate to see in these medieval-depicting films its the ignorance and the tyrannical authority of the church...in those dark times the church was corrupt, a rotten apple through and through..it used the ignorance of the people to make them believe that the Church was the source of God's power on earth, so that the priests, deacons, archdeacons...would be able to get away with anything, when the people demanded an explanation for a disease they blamed it on 'witchcraft'

  • @vashtiverous78 which usually meant the torturing, burning, beheading of women, those times really sucked

  • @vashtiverous78

Sadly, aren't some churches still corrupt? Religion is still used as justification for murder, genocides, racism, prejudice, hatred, and atrocities of all kinds.

  • no , scratch that last comment- they've just changed it a little.

  • i wish they had stuck to the story- basically they've deleted a good part of the story!

  • What the heck is a "Bastille?"

  • @Aerodil Its the French Fortress Prison that was basically where the French Monarchy would stick you in if you so much as went out of line. It was torn down in the French Revolution in 1789 after some extremely pissed off peasants revolted and stormed it.

  • @Aerodil A bastille is a fortress in Paris built in the 14th century and used in the 17th–18th centuries as a state prison. So they meant if Esmeralda didn't stay in Norte Dame, then she would have been taken to prison.

  • omg pierre gringoire is adorable. <3

  • pheobus is mark from holby city

  • Ok, Frollo is a pedophile, no matter what. His voice sounded funny when he was like "you brought her here?"

  • @Jujichan006: Older than that, actually. Probably more like 25-ish...

  • "I will see that you are...cared for."

    Perv.

  • his scary to her?

  • 05:41 JESUS SAVES!

  • @Kelly14UK Actually, a guard says "Put him in chains." But you made it sound funny.

  • You can clearly see that priest is gay from a mile away, no offense.

  • I love this film so much! Have watched it a ridiculous amount of times, still find it absolutely thrilling x

  • Holy shit he sounds creepy when he describes his fantasy relation with Esmeralda as "good to one another". I mean, he sounds like a sweet-talking paedophile.

  • @MsMixis lmao you are right he sounded like a creeper like we'll be good to each other if he touched me it'd be the end of him

  • I actually really like this version, because they established Frollo's character, before making him fall in love with Esmeralda.

  • 0:42 lol 50 cent was watching this and used that line to make one of his worst songs ever!! lol

  • where is Pheboes?

  • 0:51 It would have been funny if, after she asked "Is it so terrible to dance in the streets?" Frollo said, "You call that dancing?"

  • @snipetracker hahahaha!

  • Esmerallda is beautiful!

  • @RiyarooChoo Agreed. Does not mean it is right though. x

  • This is when Frollo really does lose everything. He really does love her-It is really strange considering the age difference. Derek Jacobi is such an amazing actor, he just is frollo- you cannot see him as anyone else in this!

  • "release that woman, you scoundrel!"... I mean, are you kidding me? Could there be a more cliché line in any movie? Lovin' Sir Hopkins as quasimodo though, the man is probably the best actor in the world.

  • Esmeralda is such a cardboard when frollo's trying to lure her into doing what he wants.

  • Wow. For once Disneý made a character worse than he is in a live-action film. (Frollo is fucking evil from the very first second in the Disney cartoon, especiallu with Esmeralda.)

  • woah, horny priest is getting frisky!!

  • Anthony Hopkins is incredible. He's compelling in this role (not to mention ADORABLE)!!!

  • I ´m sorry - John

  • Script by: Jonh GAY

    :D

  • why he goes after her? 4:12

  • @F7wxqw because he was told to do so.

  • It;s not OK for your hunchback to party in the street, but it's OK to kidnap a girl half your age on church premises, especially if you're the archdeacon.

  • @bookkeeper57 Sadly that was how it was in those days. People do hate the Catholic Church for this reason. (Even though the Catholic Church is trying their best to disassociate themselves with the previous bad behavior). But even more sad, actions like these make people hate God, and that is the true tragedy.

  • @bookkeeper57 Oh the church and it's clever rules.

  • pierre gringoire looks like adam garcia

  • Pierre Gringoire is so hot *_* haha I fell in love with his character

  • sure gets dark quick in paris! one minute sun! esmeralda runs out cathedral... whoa! it's pitch black! WHAT??

  • i lyke the disney 1 better although this 1 is quit interresting

  • in the original disney film, esmerelda wasn't the girl ho ran out of the place. in the sequel, madallaine was the one who ran away. but in teh original, the judge was stillt he one to show obsession in esmerelda

  • Anthony Hopkins as Quasimodo...doesn't look like him AT ALL! I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid. I only remember the ending well

  • Of all the men in esmereldas life only quasimodo truely loves her. Though she not desire him she respects him. Hes the only one who treats her as a person. Frollo , gringoire and phoebus all just want her for their own vanity.

  • I'd elaborate on that and say that while none of them love her, Frollo is passionately, destructively obsessed with her; Phoebus views her as a conquest; and Gringoire goes from infatuation to being merely fond of her pretty quickly.

On a personal level, this is the main reasons I like Gringoire so much: unlike Frollo he takes rejection gracefully and moves on.

  • Quasi was just gettin her back to the other guys.

Q did not like her, he just helped her out of danger.

  • Derec Jacobi has an amazing voice. He is able to show the feelings of his character by his intonation itself.

  • Around 5:00 Gringoire is wearing a plant pot as a hat XD

  • 3:40 RAPE!!! RAPE!!!!!

    Quasimodo is like "wtf? ....Okay"

funny thing his, he can like barely run, it can't be that hard to run away from him....

  • but he knows the streets of paris and she doesnt

  • Frollo: "The courts, the magistrates, they cannot touch you here."

Yeah but YOU can, pervert. :P

  • Well spoken xD

  • I reckon this film could do with a good chorus of 'hell fire!'

  • @Purplefizzgirl YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i bought the book on tuesday and finished it on thursday - it's so addictive (i couldn't put it down) i like this esmeralda but in the book she has black hair and her skin is darker.

  • She dies in the book doesn't she? I can't recall...

  • yeah, they hang her. it was so sad; and quasimodo went to the place where her body was and died by her side.

  • hey!! i was thinking of buying the hunch back of notre dame book, saw that you had already read it! could you please give me the name of the author thanks!

  • Victor Hugo He is famous

Your gonna have a hard time reading the first one it is French to the bone

  • Victor Hugo is the author!

  • Geez as soon as he said, "Good to each other" I was like, " NO ESMERALDA! RUN AWAY!

  • lesley-anne down is so beautiful! I'm really jealous! i wish i looked like her. She is so beautiful. i think she looks nice at 3:30.

i feel sorry for her at 3:47 though - she looks really freaked out (i suppose you would be if you were like 16 and the archdeacon of Notre Dame was feeling you up) frollo scares me at this bit - imagine if you were a 16 year old girl and an archdeacon was trying to seduce and rape you. ooh it gives me chills :(

  • Wow, Quasimodo is really kinda scary in this version...

And Phoebus is rather chivalrous... :)

  • i read the book and i loved it but disney does it and if it were longer id love it even more and the music is amahzing and frollo in this is not scary enough he just fits in like a monk and doesnt seem like a judge like hes supposed to be right?

  • In the original novel, Frollo was a priest. Disney changed it to a judge. I remember reading why they made this change but I can't seem to remember

  • I think it was because they thought his song "Hellfire" would upset the Catholic Church. Just like in the 1923 and 1939 they changed it so Frollo was not the Archdaecon, again to avoid offense.

  • frollo totally tries to seduce her at 3:31 till 3:48

  • or rape her. Thats a freaky part scares me a little bit..

  • Pierre looks hot in this version. :3

  • so different from disney...not in a bad way..it's just different =P frollo is so..ugh.

  • It's Derek Jacobi, and he's good!

  • he is, this version gives me good chills =]

The disney version just gives me war fuzzy feelings haha.

  • Well you know the disney version is not the original the book is so read that first.

  • I did.

  • Phoebus is Jesus of Nazareth

  • whaaaatttt????????!!!!

  • :)))The actor who plays Phoebus (Robert Powell) was Jesus in Jefirelli's TV production "Jesus of Nazareth"

  • it's not jeffirelli, it's Zeffirelli

  • huh?

  • oh my gosh, you're right!! :O

  • Her dress is so beautiful! I wish I could get something like that...

  • I've been dying to read the book, and this is definatly a good movie, but it makes me wanna watch the Disney version

  • The book is rather hard to read.

  • Quasi needs a hug. =(

I've never really read the book and the Disney movie is the only version I really know...But this movie seems pretty cool. =)

  • umm ok disney tottaly spun this version on its head

  • I love this part of the film

  • Frollo sends chills down my spine *shivers*

If you haven't read the book, you DEFINATELY should. Frollo is even creepier!

  • Lol Phoebus looks really gay in this one.

I like Frollo's outfit though, all the black and stuff, it's eerie and dark, it fits his character.

  • Frollo is 1000X more creepy in this version than in any other.

  • by adding those black gloves he has, oh yeah, now that's scary, but sexy!

  • lmao! you said it! I still prefere the Disney version...since I grew up watching it and every other disney film you could find lol :)

  • man, that frollo wanted her so baaad! did you see how he tried to touch her? creepy, gives me the shivers!!

  • He may have been initially attracted to her, but in the end, he only wanted to seduce her and became obsessed with her. The character, itself, has always been one of the most replusive characters in French literature. Only Quasimodo seemed to really love Esmeralda.

  • don´t agree with you. not in that. Repulsive? I dont think V. Hugo thought, for the way he wrote, and constructed the charater.

  • I love this movie!!! I looked for it like crazy!!!

Thank you so much for posting!!
