The 60s were fun, it's the same bad people mach II that spoil things with more verve than ever. I laugh when people say we have made progress as a race.....now there's a joke.
I am a member of the baby boomer generation. I enjoy reading your comments. I have tried to express what living in the 50's and 60's in words and it is hard. For me I felt a fredom, a lack of fear and people were kinder and more polite with manners. We did not have the fear of children being hurt, drive by shootings. You ate food from scratch, everything was real. Great weather, no earth warming up.. I felt safer, did not have to lock the doorsl. t.v. and movies were pg.
@lincoln68508 ...I hear you loud and clear. Just this morning I was thinking how comfortable it would be, now that it's getting warmer, to be able to leave the back door open for the cooling evening and early am breeze. Without fear. A simple freedom no longer there.
@lincoln68508 Thanks for your thoughts, & to a degree, I agree with you, & since I lived in Southern Calif in the 1960's as a hip & aware teen, I can speak to your memory. (I cannot speak for Brazil then, however.) Bottom line: memory & nostalgia are powerful & seductive. Remember, that in 1963, JFK was shot. Bobby Kennedy was shot in '68. The Watts Riots blew up in 1965. The US (based on bad intel, greed, & lies) got deep into war in Vietnam. Massive Black riots, nation-wide, in '66. Not fun.
Just saw Lani Hall sing with Herb Alpert at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley in Seattle on Jan. 26th.The show was just incredible. It was fabulous. We know Alpert for his sweet horn work.Though,I feel,Lani Hall is truly among the great gems of the music world, one of the greatest vocalists of all time in the history of music, undoubtably the star of the show and why most where there that night to witness greatness at it's best. She sang "Berimbau".Everything else was just fantastic. Her performance was WOW.
I heard this song when I was 14 years old on the 45 rpm that I found at some swapmeat and paid a buck for. Played it over and over and over and over again and again and again. So, which Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 cd is The Joker featured on? Thank you.
I was like you except my mom had the cassette and I played that cassette until it finally poped. My FAVORITE song on that was "The Joker". I don't know the name of the album but if on the cover it's Sergio Mendez and the group sanding in the forest. It's over there in related videos >>>>>>>>>>>
Who is Brasil 66? 77? 88? Who among them r the original bandmates of Sergio? And y did it change from 66 to 77 etc......Can someone orient me please? Thanks!
the version in saxo is awesome ..if somebody could upload it..please...genial interpretacion de los 60s....adorables sergio sus coros su banda brasil66....from lima
The bossa nova is so ultra fabulous. The groove of this particular tune is unreal. It is scintillating. It is "glossy". It has a jaguar edge to it, too...that world/international thing going on. It is also intensely glamorous.
BRAVO!!!!! It really is one of his best. My parents had this album and played it all the time. I have always owned a copy in some form. My 5 yr old son has now made it his. He loves Brazil 66

Memories of the '60s that just cannot be forgotten--priceless, yet sad

Love this line:
They don't care as long as there is a jester, just a fool
As foolish as he can be
There's always a Joker, that's a rule
But fate deals the hand and I see
The Joker is me

Pure Magic in Sergio Mendez's Songs. That smooth, hip Bossa Nova flavor he uses in his music...
Thanks for sharing!
