Awesome Video! Yes, nothing can replace that all familier sound of a JT8D at full power! I remember seeing Unhushkitted 737s at takeoff! The crackle and ROAR!!
I was Flight Attendant of VASP Brazilian Airlines and I flew 737-200 for a very long time in my professional life. The noise of its engine JT8D-17 is like a song for my ears and it is unmistakable. VASP had the world's oldest B737-200, delivered on late 1969 and still in service until january 2005, registration PP-SMA, now retired at Confins Intl Airport (SBCF) in Brazil. I am so proud for to have flown it several times and I miss its noise at airports nowadays.
My Father flew the 732's a total of 20 years for Transair,PWA, and Canadian. He retired in the left seat in the same way he began. A milk run between YYC and YXD I was privileged to sit and watch his last 732 flight of his career on this amazing, tough aircraft.
eyefly123, both of your videos are pretty much my favorite on all of YouTube, I love West Jet, and I really hope you make some more cool West Jet video soon! Your choice of Music is also amazing! Hope to see more from you soon!
The best decision is retire 737-200. The aircraft is old and tired . One jet with 30 years is like a man with 60 . Maintenance one aircraft with this or more age is expensive .
I just want to say i'm still flyng this beutifull airplane at AVIACSA in Mexico, and for kuhne aviacsa has its own maintenance approved by the FAA and DGAC, this is a very professional airline i fly here as a F.O. I'm telling you, don't worry, and fly with them. Not becasue the plane has a some years something will happen, it happen on any new one's too.
eyefly123, both of your video on here are amazing., it's so sad to see the last 200 retire as that is what helped to start build the airline.
I am so amazed by West Jet and the whole story behind them. I have read Flight Path the West Jet story, and have to say they are my dream company to work for one day. Question for you there was another 200 retirement video on here with 2 planes with sweet child of mine playing, but I can't find it now, do you know where it went or where i could find it?
used to work as an FA on the Canadian North 200's...and its moments like these that i am SO proud to say i am a westjetter now...totally gave me goosebumps!
Hey you seem to know a lot, I have a problem here... it's gona be funny to you. I have to fly in a few days and It's going to be on a Aviacsa (mexican airline) 737-200 old plane.. and I am kind of freaking out cos those planes are ooold!!! I am talking almost 30 years old or something like that.. those 737 201/adv I dont know what those are... do you have any words of reasurance for me? thanks! I am kind of a nervous flyer but if its an old plane of an airline I dont know.. I jsut freak out
I wouldn't be worried if i were you...some of our planes are also 30 years old, Haven't had one go down. The 737-200's are tanks man, Our pilots land them in High winds, and Blizzards.
We also land on a lot of Gravel Strips, so don't worry you will be fine.
Really? that's no nice to hear.... all I know of Aviacsa is they use those 737-200 and they do maintenance work in house.. so I am not sure how safe they are!
When they got this bird back on the ground, maintenance looked it over and noticed that the wing root was cracked due to the high stress in its final vertical climb. This 200 was donated to SAIT at the Art Smith Aero Centre at the south end of the Calgary International. Proud to be a WestJetter!!
i like the thin engines that make the 200 look like a fighter jet!but for an airline its best to pass on a cleaner and more fuel efficient aircraft...anyway that 200 will keep flying for many years, with new rising airlines ;)
i used to fly the 200 on southwest. up until the end, id fly them mainly on intra-texas flights, love-austin, houston. grew up with this plane. kinda sucks to see it go. farewell to the classic!!!
ive been on so many westjet 737's before... this one was hard to watch, but youve gotta feel sorta proud that you got to be part of such a great aircraft too.
Perhaps they might, but that would detract from their whole notion of having everything centralized to one aircraft -- one maintenance team, one set of parts stores, one set of manuals in the library, etc.
But perhaps to expand, they might go the route of a new aircraft -- who can say?
Aqui no Rio não vejo nenhum ao menos onde operavam e em Salvador os velhos da Vasp estão parados sendo desmontados pelo que pude perceber semana passada quando fui até la.
Mas se estão voando, NOTA 10 :) valeu pela informação :)
I dont care what people say about the 200's and 100's they were the best ever who cares about the lack of power they made short range jet flights what they are! with out them there would be no 737 at all! The retirement of them makes me cry every time. :(..
no I wasnt talking about the wiglets i love the winglets, i am talking about the vertical stabilizer on the tail, youknow unlike most planes it has a 2nd angled extension to the front.
Sorry to disagree - JT8Ds are low bypass turbofans with 0.96 to 1 bypass ratio. The fan has two stages. They don't have big fan in the front and fan air is ducted all the way to the end of the engine, where it meets core air. We don't have any -200 left, but if I see one around I can take pics for you.

I remember the 732 when they were new, the only airliner ever to give one a real kick in the pants at TO, the LH climbouts from DUS cleared direct FL 100 were just awesome! Long may they still be with us, the baby Boeings, the only one of the first generation that wasn't a beast to fly (727 veterans won't let me lie).
I've added a WestJet Airlines Movie - check it out! Make sure you watch each part in order - or the film will not make sense! CLick on my name to see the movies!
This ia truly beautiful video. The 737-200 is a fantastic airplane. It's a shame they are being retired all over the world. In a few years there will none of them flying anymore in our skies. There will be only those videos to remember them. Thanks WestJet fot the good job done with this amazing airplane.
What an awesome video! I wish I could of been in Calgary that day to see that! Would of been on awesome sight! The 737-200 was a great aircraft and the workhorse of WestJet. They will be missed! My last flight on WestJet was on the 737-200 and I have a feeling it was the last one to be retired which was probably the one in the video! Does anyone know the song that was used in this video???
Stinks they can't slap winglets on it.

I always thought the 732 was a pile, but this video did it justice.

Coldplay - Fix You (with the first half of the song cut out after the first few seconds of instrumental, doesn't sound right for the vid XD)
