Mike didn't start lip synching until the Dangerous tour. That is clearly evident on Thriller and Billie Jean. The other 90's tours he literally lipsynched almost 75% of the time. Always wondered why, what a damn shame.

GEEZ...cut him some slack...have you danced uptempo for an hour straight and been able to carry a tune at the same time? People came to hear him sing...but Michael's true performance magic came from his dancing. He probably decided to prioritize that. So what? he's still amazing.
@StarlightsFire I'm sorry, but you're mistaken there. Especially during the 90's tours, he started using a lot of "playback" and resort to lip-syncing. My guess is that the choreography took its toll and it was just "easier" that way. Watch the DANGEROUS Live DVD, you can -easily- tell when he's singing live, when he isn't. Especially during songs that required a lot of moving around, he hits a lot of bum notes...and once you know the LP/CD version, you just hear when it's live, when it's not.
Seriously I don't understand why this is even such an issue.. The exact things that make MJ so very special and unique don't seem to be appreciated enough by people. I think that's a huge shame. There will NEVER be another live performer quite like him. So the completely unnecessary "criticisms" really should stop IMHO! Be happy that we had him for as long as we did...
About lip syncing...I think you have to realise that during the 90's when he FIRST started doing it(Ok he DIDN'T do that before then!)he had MUCH more complex stage perfromances and choreocraphy. So much more difficult to sing live well AND do all the other stuff at the same time.They had to make a decision. Would he sing more live and dance less OR the other way around.I think he did as much live singing as he possibly could, being the perfectionist that he is. So people really shouldn't judge.

technically its not his choice its the promoters choices. since the ones he lips syncs through sometimes are his biggest songs. those are usually always the selling points to the concerts.

MJ has started singing with brothers at the age of five into his twenties. Then straight from there he went solo. So, thats about 30+ years none stop of singing. No wonder in the end he was burnt out and had sleeping problems and the the molestation charges made things worst. That was the final straw that did him in. He stopped touring after that. It was a downward spiral after that because he wasn't doing the things he loved most of all(singing and dancing)
That really is the saddest thing about what happened to him I think...that he lost his abiltily to perform and enjoy it like he used to. In the past that was probably the only thing keeping him sane and going.Well that and his animals and his work with children.He loved performing more than anything else!
He never had a real childhood, so that explains him befriending child stars. He had vitiligo and wore makeup to cover the patches, that explains his ghostly white appearance in recent years. That's right, no one made Michael. Plus it's the songs Michael wrote that made Off The Wall and Thriller the legendary albums they are. Don't Stop Till You Get Enough was the first single from Off The Wall album, before it was released. And Billie Jean and Beat It is were all the excitment with Thriller started. It was the Beat It song that made Michael on MTV and the rest is history.

He always had talent: Off the wall was great, the Thriller was super and beyond any scale its just everything after that didn't live up to thriller. He really didn't have a sense of freedom or good communication so his relationships didn't work. He was made that way.

Anyone would 'self-destruct' with all that he had on his back for years. This gentle soul was relentlessly judged and ridiculed in the media; throw is FALSE molestation claims, childhood abuse, death threats, health problems, over a thousand lawsuits, etc. MJ appeared to have everything but underneath the illusion - his life was an undeserved hell... Rod Temperton was the keyboardist for the band Heatwave who wrote Boogie Nights and The Grooveline for the band. Quincy Jones commissioned Rod to pen Rock With You and Off The Wall for Michael - songs that could have easily been recorded by Heatwave.

no doubt rod was great, especially as a songwriter and while with heatwave. but i hardly think he could've sung rwy they way mj did. that song grooves HARD. it has mj all over it, he made that his song. "biggest hits"? beat it and billie jean were written by mj alone. why, do those not count as his "biggest hits"? get your facts sorted.

rod temperton greatly contributed to the sound of off the wall and thriller, you can hear heatwave oozing out of a lot of those tracks. michael is still great, no doubt, but the writers and musicians playing on those albums contributed a lot.

That's right, no one made Michael. Plus it's the songs Michael wrote that made Off The Wall and Thriller the legendary albums they are. Don't Stop Till You Get Enough was the first single from Off The Wall album, before it was released. And Billie Jean and Beat It is were all the excitment with Thriller started. It was the Beat It song that made Michael on MTV and the rest is history.

i'm from Gary....two blocks from The Jacksons' former house to be exact. so if anyone knows that this is not a place to brag about it's me...but it's not like you can change where you're from. Sure Mike lived his life "off the wall", and of corse his personal life is full of trife, drama and controversy. But whatever happened at 2300 Jackson St sure did whip him into the greatest performer mankind has ever witnessed.....there will never be another Michael Jackson or anyone close to him
