@spoon149 Quite ! He was his lead singer for a few years in the mid 70's. I think he's on Bongo Fury, Roxy and Elswhere and One Size fits all (and some You can do that on stage anymore). You can look for "The Dub room special" on youtube to find live footage of Zappa's band with Napoleon (especially the "room service" routine is very funny). And I guess THE song is "Cheepnis".

If by 'the original' you mean the MUCH faster version, then in fact that isn't the original. The original has the pace of this one and featured on the seminal Overnite Sensation. Zappa speeded it up later because it worked better that way in live performances.

There are three obvious problems with Dweezil's guitar playing that, as far as I can tell, no one has yet commented on:

1. He's up way to fucking loud.

2.. He fucks up very badly at 2:56 (this is easy to hear because he's up so loud).

3. Rather than failing to be the hero that seamlessly slaloms between playing chords and lead licks by mere variation of touch, he should have just played the fucking licks. Licks which should've been improvised, if you ask me.

guitar due to the mix, but the real problem lies in the lack of personality, minus Napolean of course! It is best for ZPZ to stay away from such tunes, my two cents.

Frank himself never played it live this faithful to the studio version (that I've ever heard) - as with most of his "commercial" songs, it would always be much faster, as if he were grudgingly trying to get it over with, or pastiched in some other style. I think Dweez feels obliged to be faithful to the album - it's fanservice. Yeah, it's workmanlike... and a little weird that they actually perform the fadeout... hey, they do a good Peaches or Eat that Question

yes there are video's this is from the Overnite Sensation Classic albums Documentry but i ordered the Zappa plays Zappa Box set from Australia 2 DVD's and 3 CD's Best box set Ever i have seen ZPZ 3 times and Cried like a baby Every Time when they drop the movie screen and show Frank in the backround as they play

I really love Dweezil's tone on this song, sounds peculiarly beautiful. FZ will never be replicated, but ZPZ seem to do a fantastic job of playing his songs and sounds.

Yeah, this was pretty early on (perhaps before the tour actually started). As far as the drummer goes, I've seen him play live multiple times and given how challenging the music is, he is really top notch. If you haven't already, check out the ZPZ DVD and watch his drum duel against Terry Bozzio. He really shows off his talents there.
