  • trough me the way to eternal torment

  • @ghettovr quick question, and i would love if you answered it, the beginning, when it shows the cover of the Epic, of the book, is it an english version of the book? i have been looking for a copy of the book with that cover for a long time but have not found one. could you tell me where i may find it please?

  • I'm Italian and I think this translation is great! :-) I've just finished reading this first part of the Divine Comedy, it's awesome. Thank you for uploading these videos. I've always wanted to read it in English too, at least I can listen to some translations xD =)

  • Cori is the best litterature reader ever

  • Ya they changed the store a lot in the game, but lets face it. If they had made the game exactly like the poem, it would have sucked as a Video game. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the poem sucks. I love the original poem. Heck I am reading (listening acualy) for fun. But I love the game too, and I like the things they added in. And I think if they had stuck with the original poem, it wouldn't have been as good. Thats just my opinion.

  • "Abandon all hope, you who enter here." (Obviously this is from a translation other than the one being read here, but the words hold exactly the same power - Dante was a genius).

  • @Ondalatina1900 I'm sorry; I don't speak Italian.

  • I wish i had her version of the translation grrrr mine is very different lol

  • "through me is the way to eternal dole" i got an image of souls lining up in an infernal jobcenter when i heard that lol

  • @bigmanoooo1 I remember I once had a co-worker who suggested that we place a copy of the entire "inscription above the gates of Hell" given here above the employee's entrance.

  • I love the enscription on Hell's Gates

  • Thanks for the post!

  • youd be surprised how many people just think this is a ps3 game and nothing more

  • yea 700 yrs ago an Italian poet had an awesome idea for a video game lol XD

  • lol

  • @Charon4201 xbox*

  • @Charon4201

seriously? even though they say in the game its an adaption of the divine comedy?

  • @Charon4201 I was looking at a video game to get for my bday last month. The only reason why this one in perticular struck my curiosity is because my pa had read The Divine Comedy in his Christian High School and mentioned it was a poem when I told him about the game. I enjoy poetry too so this works out great =)

  • @angelfire3000 yeah i had a tough time reading the poem . there are versions that are easier to understand yet doesnt ruin the poem by modernizing it.

  • @Charon4201 yea i agree its a shame people dont know of this amazing piece of literature

  • @Charon4201 Unfortunately, I don't think I would. The game, and the animated video for that matter, is a total bastardization of this beautiful piece of literature. This seems to be the trend with media that's based on literature though. Look at Beowulf.

  • @Charon4201 dont forget 360 lol

  • @Charon4201 Yeah; wasn't the game inspired by (though completely changed from) the poem?

  • @Charon4201 Are you serious?! Wow...

  • manga(dot)com shows a sneak peak of the animated prequel to the game

  • Can anyone tell me what the "great refusal" was that Dante speaks of? BTW This is a great poem.

  • I believe he may be making a reference to Pontius Pilate. I'm not too sure though. Use google my friend =)

  • Pontius Pilate, I think. Google it.

  • Ciao. Dante refers to Celestine V as the "great refuser." Celestine abdicated the papal throne which led to the election of Boniface VIII.

  • @SgtColbert42

I've always known it to be Pope St. Celestine V, who was a hermit before he reluctantly accepted the burden of the papacy. He was convinced shortly thereafter that his soul is in danger if he keeps living in the world and stepped down from pope. His resignation caused the election of his successor Boniface VIII, who for Dante symbolizes corruption of the Church. Dante places him because he chose his spiritual welfare over the Church's. Ironically, he was canonized as a saint!

  • @popraprockfreak1

Thanks! A few say it was Pontius Pilate who made the so-called "great refusal."

  • eearie

  • this poem trips me out everytime I read it... this is my 3rd time

  • Well its abit deep.

  • no, but this influence the image pf hell that we see movies and television

  • No.

  • I love Dante. I always wonder whod he put where if he were alive today.

  • " wonder whod he put where " Can you explain what you mean by that

  • Yeah, all the corrupt people nowadays...where would Dante place them? Would Bush be in a canto/ Cheney? Mel Gibson? Octomom? Letterman? Dante put a lot of people in hell that were still alive when he was writing the poem.

  • You should see the animated version of this. It was put out in 2007 and it's updated for modern times.

  • I saw that actually. Satan with the long black fingernails putting the polish on, lol

  • @waterangel251983: The game and the animated movie are totally differen't. They shuldn't be called "Dante's Inferno". The story is completely different.

  • "I always wondered whom he would place in Heaven or Hell" I believe was meant by that phrase.

  • all hope abandon, ye who enter in

pain and darkness does lie within

    ye wicked men

    you will not get out

    you will not get out

    you will not get out.......

  • @stardingo747 u trying to scare the hell out of me??? lol

  • All hope abandon, ye who enter in.

  • It has an ominously terrible ring to it eh?

  • ......because darkness and pain, does lie within.
