Rule #1 when departing station on a run - don't hit the sirens until the speakers have cleared the bay doors. Your hearing will thank you when you're much older. :)
@Stupidispatcher That's a suggestion not a rule.Anyone standing in the bay door area after the ambulance is dispatched for a run,wants their hearing damaged or just doesn't have common sense.
How exactly do you know he's not in shape? Have you met him before? Many fire departments have 'bigger' guys, and they do just fine. Besides, maybe he's not in fire service, maybe he's only an EMT or Paramedic.
Just cuz the guy is big dosnt mean a damn thing. Im in the fire service and im 6'4'' and 280 pounds. I played football as a lineman so thats where i get size from. But i can also run a 40yard in 5 seconds and bench 315 pounds. And im good inside a fire lol i can pick up people with ease lol

Ive also heard some very bad breathing after abit of work from some of those so called FIT ff's!Good thing i wasn't to far away incase one of them needed me.And Mooo483's comment about EMT'S & P'S, you should open yours too. @WRXSubaru08 that's really crazy: I saw many vids from the US where they leave the station with the Q running hot, pulling the airhorn and noone stops. That's the reason why most of our FD have traffic lights in front of the station, so when they leave for a call, they switch them red and get out of the station very fast - without switching on any siren or horn
our horns sound like trains. they move traffic faster than anything else i've ever seen. Of course, we don't have crappy ford van ambulances - we have Internationals

Why dont they use stop lights near teh station to warn the upcoming vehicles and give them stop signs? so yeasier to leave when its code 3 :)
