  • Fantastic

  • The Japanese are so fucking lucky!

  • @MotherBound1 Yeah...but most of those FDS disks don't work anymore. The cartridge versions do though.

  • @deusprogrammer Were there cartridge versions of Metroid? I thought Metroid was just on the Famicom Disk System.

  • @MotherBound1 I apologize. I was referring to the American version of Metroid =3. The cartridges still work, but the FDS disks tend to wear out...being magneto-optical and all that.

  • I think i almost cried a little...brings back memories...

  • happy birthday :)

  • does anyone almost hear some 16 bit sounds in this track?

  • NOSTALGIA!

  • Famiri Konpyuta Disku Shistemu

  • @nintendopet114 cool story bro.

  • Since everybody reads different letters from the katakana "metoroido", I'm currently seeing something like "XtorK". Lol.

  • I think the reverb is a little overdoing when it comes to the soft and lovely part.

  • i never knew the japanese version had different sound!!

  • @farerse its not just cause its japanese this was released first for an add on for the famicom in japan known as the famicom disk system it used floppys and had a much higher sound quality

  • I wonder if the Japanese text also used poor grammar and didn't make sense...

  • WAY spookier than NES

  • The FDS version would be good for casual gamers, since it's got three save slots. The NES version is probably the best choice for speed runners, considering that the FDS version has some loading time between screens.

  • It look like: Xr0TK

  • But the in game music sounds relatively the same. Albeit a bit clearer. So there really isn't a lot of difference. If you want a game with a completely different soundtrack to compare, Get Dracula II and Akumajou Densetsu and compare that to Castlevania II and III: Dracula's Curse before you decide to shove all the "FAMICOM SUPERIOR, NES INFERIOR" stuff down our American throats.

  • @TFLegendReborn I prefer the music on the Famicom versions.

  • 2 people think the NES version is better...

  • Probably my favorite NES/Famicom game. The extra channel makes a difference; the FDS audio is far superior. All that's missing is the nostalgia I have for the NES tunes.

Americans sure got shortchanged on the NES! Lesser audio capability, a finicky VCR/toaster cartridge port, and those passwords!...They were especially bad with Me-to-ro-i-do!

It's also interesting how all the Nihongo text is in Katakana.

  • メトロイド、オモロイド

  • Sounds a lot better than the NES release. Nintendo should have released the Famicom version for the Wii VC.

  • omg this sounds amazing.

  • I think i tilted the cartridge.....

  • @nintega1 That crazy moonspeak must be some kind of bug.

  • one of the greatest MIDI songs ever!!!!!!!!!

  • It's not a MIDI file, it's hex code, in other words they wrote the music on a text editor (like Notepad or other Word Processors) using a music driver.

  • Mehtuhroidoh

    Mazza Burein

  • I'd love to play the Jap version Metroid or should I say "XRORK"

  • @Penfold8 It's called "Metoroido"

  • @joe9320 I was being facetious as the main title looks like X R O R K. I know that's not how you say it.

  • @Penfold8 Lowercase R, it looks like.

  • @Penfold8 it says Metroid.

  • I played this side by side with the NES version and I like how that one sounds, both of them at once.

  • Oh! This sounds much better than the Famicom's brother, the NES... Save Feature!? You have got to be pulling my leg!

  • Aaaaaaaahhhh...... the 80's. When Kanji isn't used in Japanese computers and all the games have cool cheesy 8-bit sound.

My own rendering of title (if they used proper Japanese):

    緊急指令

    惑星ゼーベスのメトロイドを倒し

    機会生命体マザーブレインを破壊

    せよ!

    銀河連邦警察

  • @joe9320

It's 機械 (kikai) mechanic, not 機会 (kikai) chance/occasion.

  • @MajoraKamen64 Ohhh..... didn't study kanji properly. Better get Chinese lessons then.

  • The thing with the NES Vs. The Famicom, Is the typical TH Vs. S or Ous Vs, TH.

Zebes was translated to Zebeth, Do to Localization error.

  • This sounds a lot darker than the NES Version.

  • I can hear more sound channels.

  • FDS had 1 simple FM (I believe it was FM. If not, it's probably additive) synthesis channel.

  • @bisexualbuffthug: One more channel than the default NES setup.

  • If there's anyone interested in this song, please send me a private message.

  • the disc system had a synthesizer in it so that's what gave it this echoey sound

  • Not really. It just added a different soundchip. Some sort of FM chip if I'm not mistaken. I might be confusing it with the VRC7 chip though. I know THAT used FM.

  • I'm torn on this one... This one has better melody in the high end, and yeah, this seems more similar to the sequels. The NES version adds more notes to the melodic jingle, and again, better bass sound. I'd have to give the title intro for FDS the edge, though.

  • METROIDOOOOO!!!!

  • This is the true version of the title theme. The only tune that's better on the NES version is the escape tune, which has an added part to it that wasn't there in the original.

  • I don't this sound over to the NES much.... sounds worse IMO.

  • this was how the composer wanted it to sound.

  • The famicom had a more advanced sound system actually. So technically, this version sounds better, you only like the NES version's more because that's what you heard first.

  • This particular song sounds much better on FDS... but some of the games sound better on NES, like Castlevania 2.

  • You don't this sound?

  • japan ftw

  • This time, the Famicon wins over the NES version.

  • @Plasmawarrior typically it is that way. The way the NES pinset was designed you couldn't use certain sound chips, a good example is Castlevania 3.

  • Was the Famicom superior in other ways?

  • It had 2 built-in controllers, and had a microphone on the second one, which some games (like Zelda) could use. Famicom Disk System Games were rewritable, and almost all of them could save (like Metroid and Kid Icarus).

  • @killerogun

    Yes.

  • @Flash11I19 How so?

  • @SuperNESFreak

Better sound, the game was running much more fluid and it had that save feature.

  • @Plasmawarrior nes still wins

  • sounds bettta than NES

  • wah!

Is some diferent than EEUU version!

  • メトロイド Metoroido

    :P

  • I prefer the introduction on the NES interpretation, but the melody part on the Famicon is superior. I'm deciding between remixing this or a rather wild mix of level 1 X-men Arcade (Konami). Either way it should be fun :).

  • The Famicom is the Japanese version of the NES, they have similar hardware, but they are otherwise incompatible. I'm not known of games being screwed up on the system.

  • They ARE the same hardware. The only difference is the shape of the cart pins to stop piracy in Western markets.

  • Well, the Famicom controls were hardwired to the system and the 2P control had a microphone. The Samicom was toploading and the original NES used a VCR-linke mechanism.

  • The sound quality is debatable for the most part. I one exception is the escape music which is inarguably better in the NES version because the sound effect for the siren isn't as harsh.

  • The fds had better sound quality, while the nes had better spelling.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAND.... It doesnt have the shitty password pack.

  • @ankevroon Nope. Get this translated.

  • @ankevroon And a lack of Justin Bailey. Nooooooo.

  • @ankevroon zing!

  • @ankevroon Back in the days in 1988 I use the hate the password system! BUT NOW I HATE MOSTTTTT!!!

  • @Alexfilms100000000 its not better sound quality. the fds has an extra channel.

  • @Alexfilms100000000 exactly.

  • @Alexfilms100000000 Sometimes the NES won out, though. Take Zelda 2 for example.

  • @Alexfilms100000000 what do you mean?

  • @Alexfilms100000000 LOL! really, LOL!

  • @Alexfilms100000000

Dude, I ROFLed so hard at that comment!

  • thje fds system had a 2 channel soundchip builtin, but even the disks had backthem in average more storage space than actual nes carts,it had even a save feature.

  • now that's what i am talking about. perfect than the US version.

  • the older the better this is where metroid appeared first and it was and it is still good

  • Why, why WHYYYY!!!??!!!!! Why don't we get this better sound quality?

  • Simple the nes didn't get the fm sound chip. While the famicom disk system did.

  • I think its because the famicom disk system used disks and they have better sound quality and more storage space.

  • I've said it befor it is the fm sound chip in the system. If ya don't beleave me watch the famicom dojo about it here.

  • I like how metroid sounds more on the fds then what the nes version does.Still that's what i think at least, plus the fds save feature for it is convenient.

  • Yeah I noticed it sounds different, why would that be? Is it because the disk has more capacity than a cartridge?

  • It's becuase the famicom disk system has a fm synthesis chip in it.With it the game get's that exrta sound channel. For wich let's the game have more in music and sound effects.

  • Why were these answers thumbed down?

  • No i haven't checked the reponse for this video lately.Though i've given enough answer for this one.

  • The FDS had an additional sound chip included.

  • XKOTK" that is what is spells out rofl

  • no, it's Metroid with katakana. Me-to-ro-i-do.

  • i have a hard time learning any non-romanic languages...*PTL Goes back to his futile attempt to learn hirigana*

  • come on you know I was just joking around seriously it just that thats what it looks like, I know

  • i know too, i joke around alot. However, in real life i never tell people i'm joking so i come off as a bit psycho.

  • That sounds more like meteor.

  • meteor would be me-te-o-ru.

  • 懐かしいです。

    小学生の時大好きな曲とゲームでした。

    ありがとうございます。

  • Metroid is my favorite Nintendo series. Thanks for sharing this, it sounds great.

  • Thank god for emulators, now us Americans get to hear the game in its full glory. The same thing happened with the Master System too. The Japanese version had a better soundchip, so the experience of games like Phantasy Star was better on the Japanese system.

  • the original Zelda sounded sooo much better on the FDS too
