So much for BA being in financial trouble!! They seem to still be able to afford to send a 747 and deploy slides that cost a small fortune to repack!! They should stop publicity stunts and work at restoring their 'once great' service.

The aircraft was more than likely flying back empty anyway, although if it was returning with pax ...the number of pax carried would have to be reduced as a result of an inoperative exit. I would have imagined they would also have flown with an engineer on board. Hope this answers your question

I'm guessing that they repacked the slide afterwards and it will be tested and reused.

Slide would have been removed and thrown in the hold I guess and replaced on return to the uk.

Very expensive. Anywhere between 20,000-50,000USD. (Per slide). And there are 12 of them on the 747-400.

Of course, BA and any other airline are probably given heavy tax write-offs by their respective governments for these flights.
