The early 80s videos had a definite charm to them. Now the only videos made are repulsive rap videos with women shaking their gigantic asses. Hedonism and stupidity define these videos. They are an insult to most African Americans.
I have to agree with a lot of the comments here, MTV started to go down at the end of the 80's but if that was the cake what really put the icing on it was when they quit airing music videos and started on that reality crap like "The Real World!" The real world is outside my door, NOT inside a TV!!

Saw them in concert with Thompson Twins. Great show. Actually ran into Andy when Thompson Twins were playing. He came out into the crowd to watch the show.

Always been a fan of this band. Heard this song at the Pitt APO a few years ago, loved it and still do. Such a deep beautiful voice. One of my favorites!
@Gamedayz1 Documentaries & other shows are playing in MTV. MTV in 1990's allowed bad music with hard rock & rap swearing anything on TV & that's why MTV terminated almost all music because of sexual content & singers themselves. It became prejudiced toward anything that is dirty.
@737sunset I totally agree only with a small modification. I'd say unwatchable since around mmmmm......Summer of 1989, I would say. You are right, though. The MTV in, say, 1987 just did NOT have the same feel or magic that it had in 1984 or 1985. And I just flat out couldn't watch it in the 90's any more.
It might just be your taste in music. Maybe you just prefered the New Wave music, so that by the time it died out in the latter 80's you didn't find MTV interesting.
Anyway, MTV's should really be dated to the early-mid-90's with "Real World".

@starlost1957 I agree. MTV has been unwatchable, since around 1986, actually. Same with VH1. Just trash sitcoms now.

@737sunset I totally agree only with a small modification. I'd say unwatchable since around mmmmm......Summer of 1989, I would say. You are right, though. The MTV in, say, 1987 just did NOT have the same feel or magic that it had in 1984 or 1985. And I just flat out couldn't watch it in the 90's any more.

It might just be your taste in music. Maybe you just prefered the New Wave music, so that by the time it died out in the latter 80's you didn't find MTV interesting.
Anyway, MTV's should really be dated to the early-mid-90's with "Real World".

@737sunset I have an excellent idea for MTV. Do an entire 2 weeks of nothing but flashbacks starting with their first aired video , video killed the radio star, all the way through the years. you know how many would watch who remember those years? how do we pitch this idea? the ratings would soar.

Uhm, i wouldn't say this song is romantic - have you listened to the lyrics? This is a breakup song, and a happy-to-be-broken-up breakup song. You don't get that many of those..

@sonia691000 I checked for any TFF tour in North America but no info except they will be in Bs Aires, Argentina at the end of the month. But, Duran Duran is coming to Canada only in Toronto april 25th ! I will for sure buy a ticket, what about you ? See ya : )
