  • This is not the future. The rental for the battery is ridiculously high and Envia Systems just unveiled a battery that could be a game changer. Battery technology will improve in the next 5 years to equal the driving range of a gasoline car. The Tesla Model S is at 300 now. Another 100 miles of range and cost coming down and this will look like a really bad idea.

  • @jason1973tl No, here is why you are wrong on this. Even if the battery technology improves, and can go longer like gas cars do, it will NEVER get charged in a few moments like a gas car can have its tank filled in a few moments. It will always take HOURS and HOURS. No one can wait.

This is why the change out method is superior and pretty much the only way that these can ever take off so you can make a really long trip interstate, for instance.

  • @jason1973tl Even if you don't want to make a really long interstate trip, you probably also don't want to have to monitor that battery level to make sure you always have a full charge.

People with gas cars don't have to worry about always having a full tank of gas. They just run until its almost empty, then find a station.

Electric should also have that convenience and privilege.

  • What if your battery is brand new and you get it replaced by someone's 5 year old battery that doesn't last as long?

  • The idea is awesome for those in a hurry, but I prefer the idea of charging for free off solar panels on my roof.

  • I imagine broken batteries being a frequent problem...

  • No doubt about it. This will be the way it's done. Imagine going into QuikTrip or a 7-11, grabbing a Coke and a sandwich - and swapping your car battery! Indeed, it will be. I'll say that by 2020 there will be quite a few of these places around. By 2030, we should be seeing the convenience store environment already making a strong effort to provide this service. Pouring a fossil fuel into a tank in your car is going to be an infrequent event in 50 years. Take that, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

  • HEY! imagine how much those stupid batterys cost ya.. yeah u didnt think about that huuh and how much does that car cost... since its suposely saving so much...

  • Put a cap the instillation price to keep it affordable.

  • Battery = $100 thank you come again!!

  • Do you trust a woman to drive up on a vehicle bay?

  • by the way, battery materials that are expensive are own by the company , we pay a fee for usage, that will lower battery price to consumer, electric cars become more afordable. and companys have a stock of material with market value.

  • finaly ... sense i start to see electric cars i always tink about this for fast batery operations, now plug the one that is recharging to a battery bank that is used to storage energy for peak energy usage of the grid. great job.

  • Continued.....

Shop at the downtown mall. Free charges in our carparks while you shop.

    I'm THERE !!!!!

  • @mantelbrottset That's a great idea!

  • Seen the new recharge pad that you drop your iPhone, iPad, and most other rechargeable equipment onto to charge automatically? About $ 145. Will get you one right now.

What about installing rows of similar heavy duty rechargers in the road coming up to lights, known traffic jam spots and shopping car parks, business, work and home garages so you just get charged in a number of places during the day, then park over your own unit at night in your garage.

    Multiple charges.

    No wires

    Eg: shop at t

  • I like the idea. It was borrowed from large warehouses like I work in. We pull our forklift into a parking slot and an electric battery changer takes out our battery and replaces it with a good battery.

Unfortunately I see several problems with this approach. Cars are already being produced with differing battery packs, then you have the chicken vs egg problem with infrastructure and then you have to convince me that the price won't be equal to gas. It sounds like a gimick to keep EVs costs up.

  • @jason1973tl Better Place does not manufacture vehicles, only the infrastructure. The only cars with changable batteries work on the Better Place system, others are all fixed battery. If the car companies want to allow their customers to use the network, they better go with the Better Place system or go through the trouble of creating their own global infrastructure.

  • I would like to know how many miles per battery charge, Also will it by expensive.

  • hey it is way more impressive without extra sound, because its so silent in comparison to normal cars!

  • I do think we will see this technology take the lead in small cars. Imagine a single wind turbine out in the middle of nowhere connected to a battery swap station, a sign down the road indicating availability.

The key will be.... agreeing on standard battery sizes ASAP so it's not a mess when it starts becoming popular.

If the standards are there, anyone with wind, sun, or a river could setup a battery swap station for low investment and start right away.

  • If its profitable, thats the question. If it could create wealth and even at same time negatively impact, trust me it will be massed produce.

  • Good news good news indeed. I follow all the electric models now. This gives me even more hope along with ev-charge america's concepl.

  • Yes it is good news! I hope they can get such a thing going and make it affordable.

  • @PRISMEngineeringLLC this means that no more gas or fueled vehicles from now on in the future like in 2013 and 2015

  • Were getting a Tesla Motors near Lake Union in Seattle, WA and I hope this will make other auto dealers here in Washington State think twice when it comes to being green.

  • As a Traffic Engineer I can tell you, this has legs, and more especially if swapping stations can be installed along freeways as well. Too bad we don't already have electric cars already, because this would work. 1 minute turn around is a lot faster than the filling of a tank with gas.

  • Tesla Motors is building the Model S that is using the swap battery.

Nissan and Renault are going to produce massive amounts of EVs. I hope Tesla will be able to produce their third model soon.
