Hellz yeah! I was there. Kirk Hammet has a three way tie between Hendrix and Chuck Berry as my favorite guitarists of all time. They're all in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. I went to the annex in NYC and when I saw Kirk Hammet's guitar, an ESP M-11, I felt like one the most important people in the world, even though the annex was a total rip-off. Long live Metallica, their music, and their contribution that will change Rock n' Roll forever.

he is doing the double bass part in the beginning its just pretty low. i does that on even ajfa. like in harvester of sorrow at the beginning he does this cool drum thing and in that part theres some double bass in there but when he does it its a little lower in volume than the rest of the bass drum hits

But that's the metallica attitude, it always has been and always will be. It's part of what made them as huge as they are.

As a drummer myself, sure, I'm a little disappointed when I don't hear the heavy, slamming double bass parts. But, that's more than made up for by a 2 hour long show full of amazing songs.

No matter were the show is, or if it even maters, he should play with all he's got. if he can only play the part once in studio he should never record it. i really didn't give a shit when i saw them live because it was amazing, but when i listen to the audio after the fact i go wtf? that was terrible on his part. He can do better and he should every show.

Its not about playing as much double bass as possible, its coming up with the most fitting beats for the music as possible. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with laziness. lol, just as I was typing this I noticed he's cutting out lots of double-bass parts in this song. Maybe that's what you're talking about. That is kind of annoying I guess..
