shogi is played on a 9x9 board,not 8x8.and it's unlikely to get a draw in shogi because you can reuse captured pieces.and the area where a piece can promote is called opponent camp.wich is the far 3 row of squares from you.and if you want to play shogi I'd suggest 81dojo.it's free and very awsome.if you want to learn how to play simply look up HIDETCHI on YouTube
