They were tombs for the "God Kings" it took longer to build them than the Pharoahs lived, i.e. they were still working on a kings tomb, long after he died. sigh, the unfinished pyramids arn't pyramids at all they are called mastabas 'tombs' in which the early egyptian nobility were laid to rest. as the civilisation evolved nobility called for taller bigger mastabas, some where even tombs on top of tombs, and so we see the first stepped pyramid. as the civilisation became more elabarate and more luxuries and trade routes were available beutification of the tombs allowed them to be covered in limestone, not native rock, imported from other areas.

@DODI88MH thats already been solved in my opinion. theres a spiral outer ramp. they simply leave the corners open to turn the stones coming up. Its very possible too with another discovery, that only the base was quarried, & the rest were formed like cement cast's. The right mixture creates hard mammoth stones in a 2 week period. look at the vid to the right called " Great pyramid mystery solved. "

my guess is it was finished with a gold cap stone and that was the first thing robbed then the white limestone incasing it. the market was flooded with white limestone so the demand decreased and that's why some is still left.
really though, why did the egyptians leave the complex and move to cairo(means Mars)?

There are way too many theories going around for this the Astronaut theory to me has more evidence than the big giants. Bearing in mind the ancients would have called anything bigger than them by a few feet a giant. I would say the Astronaut theory has more evidence simply because ancients believed in one God different cultures believed in one god the same God yet they could not communicate with one another. In the records of tombs: One guy was able to lift two stones, which means" a giant human was able to lift two medium large stones, and the so huge stones, maybe two or four giants were able to lift them", the ancient egyptians used to record all their work, The giants are even recorded but egyptologists get us away from this theory cuz theres conspiracy over it
