@southern4501isawesom Actually, I've searched the reporting mark. It's an intermodel company that CSX purchased in the 90's and they originally had their style logo over the containers until fully purchasing the facilities and the entire company. (Which explains why CSX has had larger intermodel coverage since the 90's!)
Great zoom at 1:03 Its a cool close up. You get to see the new HTCR radial trucks and the older HT-Cs(I think thats whats on the sd40t-2). Very cool thanks for sharing! RIP SP!!!
Not sure of the cause. They were replacing a rail, but whether the rail was broken by the derailment or the broken rail mcaused it I do not know. We were chatting to the superintendent in charge of the clean up, so should have asked him!
Yes, the engineers did not always get the horns on at the right time, and one did obviously stick!
It was a great location at a time when there was a lot of variety in locomotive types and paint schemes. A treasured memory. :)
@robertgift I believe that it wasn't stuck, and that he was just blowing for the crew and at some points, and wasn't laying as hard on the horn at some points.
looks cool but what would had happiend if it had derailed how fast would you re act ? but where is the engine in the 3rd unit and why are they using it if it doesent have a engine to pull anything wired
The third unit is a 'Tunnel Motor' SD40-2T. It does have an engine just like other SD40-2's, but has low air intakes in an extended hood so in tunnels it draws cooler, cleaner air into the radiators.
right in the middle, normal place. I assume you are referring to the see-through section, this is the radiator air intake to allow cool air to be drawn in whilst passing through tunnels. They are called 'tunnel motors'.
An MDW flatcar derailed. They had to replace a section of rail on the switch. Whether the car broke the rail, or the broken rail was the cause of the derailment, I don't know.
awesome lovely shooting of the view around 2:20

@StarWarsTrains or i think it may be chessie seaboard logistics... not sure i know its one or the other not a big csx fan.
southern4501isawesom 6 months ago
@BJFRacing88 I guess you mean the air intake grille. These bring in cooler air from low down when passing through tunnels.

why was there a lot of demonstrators there?
mbta1000 1 year ago
@mbta1000
They were short of power, I guess.
andersley 1 year ago
@mbta1000: I have a hunch that SP bought the SD70M demonstrators just like how UP bought the GEVO demonstrator & didn't repaint it for a while.

Cause of the derailment?
Video audio way off, or did the engineer miss at 2:25 ?
Horn valve stuck at 3:10 ?
Love your close-ups of wheels beginning at 4:25.
Thank you, andersley

lucky people with their comfort cabs on the first 2 locomotives. I'm stuck with gp38's and sd40's. ac6000cw's are like space shuttles inside the cab.
I've ridden in one twice as conductor. they will blow your mind.

That's cool to see all those SD70M demo units. UP must have really liked those things, they have a ton of them now.

Yeah, I liked the maroon, light grey and dark grey ones.

Nice video.
What was the cause of the derailment?
At 3:08, was that horn valve slow to close or just the engineer's way of blowing the horn?
Thank you.

Sounds like he had a problem with the horn valve!
