how this stop water running through. were the controls to the inlet valves away from the dam or did the level in the lake behind fall to the valve level?
@fatwalletboy2 Apparently it happened because a structural damage, due the fatigue, of the bolts in the turbine area. A russian consultant told us one time that they don't know the real cause of this accident and another one happened years ago. Perhaps some problems mixed together.
first Chernobyl. now Sayano. two major power plant accidents. has Russia learned from Chernobyl and Sayano when it comes to power plant safety and integrity? even if it was an uncontrollable event? that is what people need to know.
@aurora990 Well, the accidents always will occur. We are not perfect, and our actions and works (and ideas) are not perfect neither. What we are doing everyday better is to avoid most of them and to handle them. Cheers!
@aurora990 There is no comparison between Chernobyl and Sayano–Shushenskaya. Read the reports of the findings on this accident and decide for yourself if they have learnt. They are available if you look for them.
......... I just wanna say that i hate dams and all hydrotechnique structures This movie is my worst nightmare .......... Just imagine the moment of that accident that force burst free killing everyone Just see how that building look like before and after that's terrifying (good video)

Damn that's creepy... fitting music for sure. I would not have wanted to be in that turbine room when that happened it must have been terrifying.

Thank you very much. Finally was found the vibration & later fatigue of turbine's elements the cause of the failure. Regards!
