@asinha071 thank you for your reply ..There are sindhi community in PAk sindh and in India as well they worship their saint Julle lal well he rides on palla fish and unfortunately bengali most often prefer eating hilsa fish only...

Add some black cumin (kalo-jeera) in hot mustard oil before frying the fishes ... it makes the dish more tasty

In usa, shad fish is known to come somewhat close to the taste of hilsa fish (but won't be as tasteful - as you can imagine).

The best bet would be a bangladeshi grocery store in your area.
