What it all boils down to is, there have to be resources available in order for there to be no excuse from CALWORKS clients as to why they cant seek employment. Training programs, Free GED classes, Daycare etc.

They have no money for clothing appropriate for seeking employement, it costs $62 a mo for a bus pass or $5 per day. Optical must to be put back in place for those over 21, otherwise another detourant. GAIN is a useless cost of money, paying Temps to show clients how to read want ads.

By the way, CALWORKS pays a mere $584 csh & $170 Fd Stmps to 2 member families & $723 per mo + $235 Fd Stmps per mo for fam of 3...In So Cal, a one bedroom apt is between $1000 & $1200 per mo NOT including utilities. This is why Cal has over 1,000,000 homeless per night (seriously) & the numbers are going to increase because of the cuts being made now. There are no training programs nor jobs, no daycare without a 2yr wait & to get on the job training you need a job. Oh yes, min wge is 7.25hr

Thats because 80% of the clients receiving Aide don't have papers, are receiving aide for their children & are exempt from the 5 year time limit & GAIN participation. They are permitted to receive aide indefinately, without being required to look for work or do anything even close to appearing productive. Theyve got a good 20 years of aide coming & have to do nothing but sit back and collect. Alot of that cash aide is sent to their families in other countries since they have illegal jobs also.

I do agree with your views on the welfare program, and I agree that it should be changed so that it is exactly what it should be...temporary help. Best to stop making it a way of life, and to use it to help others get back on their feet.

Why aren't we taxing oil and almonds and winerys?

These are our natural resources. Businesses are making BIG money off of them. Tax these business for taking our natural resources and have California make some of that money back.

Governor...

The state has certain necessary programs and duties that it must pay for and it only has so many sources for revenue.

So, the situation is, the state has the same amount of needs it has to pay for, but because of our economy, California has lost a substantial amount of income.

Seeing as the sole source of income for any government is through taxes in one form or another ... the only way to solve this problem is to raise taxes.

So please, fix this mess and raise my taxes! Please!

James, here's the thing: Governments do not rely on taxes to "make money". See, when a "government" hand out money (to "poor" citizens), it is to people who by bread, milk, baby food and clothes -- because that's about all they can afford. This money helps keep taxpaying businesses afloat, and the money circulates straight back to the government, ready to hand out again. The only tax that should be raised are import taxes. The money raised for that should be utilized to create new businesses.
