  • I have a car with a 2-speed transmission...and the first gear usually takes you up to 60 mph. That being said, I'm pretty sure you can't even get it up to 100 mph even in high gear. XD

  • 01:15 No, its not.

  • 2:16 That was pretty funny.

  • outrun is to awesome for a snes it would just blow up

  • There's a webber grill now that's called the Genesis, the logo also seemed a bit similar...Next time I see it I'll have to bring a cartridge to see if it'll play! :U

  • luvd the music luvd that i had an option on wich way i could go they were the days wish i could spin the clock back

  • I think the ending depends on where you finish

  • Somebody needs to make a Mega Drive design for the Genesis in Forza 3. I'm trying to make my own but I have no idea what I want to do with it.

A Out Run Testarossa design would be nice, too.

  • it is similar to lotus for amiga

  • I miss the Camels.

  • Wow... this looks a lot better on Genesis then the one I have on Commodore 64... I was bidding on the stand up arcade and it went for like 2grand though....

  • @ShaolinDeadlyGamers Sega Saturn version was a near perfect arcade reproduction.

  • @NeoHoshi Oh? I checked ebay immediately after reading your comment to purchase it but all I see is JPN versions. Was it only in japan?

  • @ShaolinDeadlyGamers Nopes it was part of Sega Ages in the UK :)

Sorry for the late reply ;)

  • 5:25 LOL they just land on their ass and look bewildered!

  • Brings back good memories, thanks.

  • wtf do you do in this game?

  • The Hyundai Genesis or Megadrive isn't sold in Europe

  • the sega YEAH NE ZEEZS

  • My Outrun game is different. I'm from Belgium though

  • i love watching old classic game conversions. starting from outrun in the master system, the genesis, and then the arcade version. great review. wish you would do one for rastan. my favorite arcade game ever. mainly because it was so advance in graphics, sound and game play for its time.

  • why bother reviewing shit like this ? its CRAP !

  • @TheStevo75 Get A Life, You Have Nothing Better To Do Then Go On His Videos Of Classic Games And Talk Shit??? GAYYYYYY Troll, Yubba Dubba Bitch!!

  • @TheStevo75 I agree, I'd much rather watch your videos.

  • Have you noticed all the traffic is going 160 mph?

  • @thecrazyjewishkid - Everybody is late for work. LOL.

  • cox sucks fat cox

  • I went down to the genesis in my genesis, afterwards I came here, and enjoyed your genesis game review.

  • Not only is it a 2 speed testarossa, it's also a testarossa convertible... and as far as I know there is only one in existence... owned by someone from Sega ;-)

  • "Not Kilometers per hour, which completely confuses the shit out of us Americans."

    LOL

  • What a rip off for the audience in the stands. They get to see the first 5 seconds of the race and thats it.

  • cant wait to buy it XD

  • Testarossa gets 16 mpg hwy, so this game's not very realistic.....

  • Get some sleep Mark! You sound tired.

  • I like this game in the arcade

  • this has nothing of hd...

  • Whoa I never saw the Afterburner jet in that game before! Was that on hard or something?!

  • well at least its better graphics than wii

  • By the way, great game.

  • Us British use miles per hour because it is better than km/h even though these days we use metric.

  • @Electivired ...

    How is it any better?

  • @Nintendavin Probably "better" is the wrong word to use because it's only a unit of measurement.

It just that the difference between 20 and 40 MPH as an example feels more different than the difference between 20 and 40 km per hour.

  • @Electivired But that also means you can technically be more accurate with km/h because in comparison the distance between each km is smaller than each mile.

I don't know, this could also be because I live in an area that uses metric instead.

  • the musc at the beggining makes me cry

  • @FalloutMessiah What? You mean the squirrel part? :P

  • OLD GAMES ROCK BETTER THAN THE NOWADAYS GAMES!!!!!

  • Those boat stores are like Starbucks, there are thousands of the buggers.

  • Said Hyundai Genesis should also be playing Genesis on the radio while you read the book of Genesis and use the Genesis device from Star Trek.

  • @Ejak2021 mind = blown

  • @Ejak2021 Now someone just has to create a beer or soda called Genesis as well, and your Genesis life will be complete.

  • SEEGAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • Is this a Master system or Mega/Geneis review?.

  • @bazfanv2 Well, it says OUT RUN for Sega Genesis on the title screen and right above the video and it has Sega Mega Drive version in it, so... It's definitely a Master System review *he lied*.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar I guess humour and sattire are not your strong points. I said what i said becos Mark mentions the Master system a lot. But then ill take a guess that your too young to know what a Master system is.

  • @bazfanv2 Well heck, I know what master system is, thank you. Played hell of a Shinobi. Hate Mandara boss. Anyway, he mentions it a lot because he reviewed it first. Now he compares 8-bit port to 16-bit.

  • @bazfanv2 Genisis

  • 6:28 it says secX (i know it means seconds) but think about it

  • @StickPeopleAndPuff Looolll

  • @lukevertiis I heard the Bible has a book called Genesis, too. It was probably written by Yu Suzuki. Or Yuji Naka.

  • metric system rules =)

  • this remains my most favorite sega megadrive/genesis games. i was rather surprised how good the scrolling was, and the amount of prites onscreen at once.

ofcourse the sega saturn version, and that in shenmue on the dreamcast where better (the saturn version i like most), and maybe even really arcade perfect, as after a lot of gaming sessions on the arcade, at least i could not spot the differences between saturn outrun, and arcade outrun :-D

  • Well...miles confuses the s*** out of us canadians too ya know.

  • I dated a girl named Genesis (True story)

She owned a Super Nintendo (Again, true story)

  • my game on the genesis is difrent,.strange ,the sky is lower,in my game..

  • I prefered the PC Engine Version, the PC Engine although 8 bit had a number of Arcade Perfect games. R-Type, Spatter House, Vigilante even latter titles like Street Fighter 2 Championship Ed which was nearly as good as the SNES version.

  • I own this game, and i love it :)

  • He has to review Afterburner 2 if he's making a review for Outrun and Hangon

  • There is a Revamped version of this game for the PS2

  • Seems funnier than outrun 2 for the Xbox.

  • What this game has that NFS, Forza, and Gran turismo don't, is accessibility, and simplicity, the two words that are less used in modern games today.

  • @SLRMC93

There's abit more to it than that, it's not a racing game in the conventional sense, very 80s feeling, and like other racing games from that age it was a raycaster that used scanline adjustment to stretch and offset a texture/the-road. not seeing what's coming and the game is tightly scripted instead of a 3D course that feels different depending on what car you're using. but you are right tho, it's simplicity and good vibe that made outrun, outrun. not realistic physics or alike

  • NEVER buy a Hyundai.

  • kilometers confuses the sh** out o me aswell, dam metrics.

  • Years ago I saw a television show where they had a N64 included into the dashboard.

  • This was a great game!

  • the only sad thing is that if sega DID bring out a new console i would be willing to bet money it would be a wii clone or only ever really compete with nintendos wii, and not with the kings of this generations consoles playstation 3 and the xbox 360. i just hope they dont and bring out a kick ass machine to rival the ps3 and 360!!

  • i use to ply this game on my commadore 64 years ago

  • The genesis version of Out Run was very faithful to the arcade version

  • Back in the day when i had an Atari St i got Outrun and expected the arcade version. I dont need to say how disapointed and sick i was when i saw what was on screen.

  • It's HYUN-DAE, not Hyundai. Hyundai would be the Japanese pronunciation. Hyundai is a Korean company.

  • they should make a version for PS3/PC/360/WII copy

  • We want more genesis reviews!

  • Is outrunners and outrun the same game?

  • @thenintendogamer

Outrunners is a completely different game

  • this is why i love shenmue.

  • I guess people already told that, looks alike the top gear 2. Both games are good, they were real hits!)

  • ive played this on arcade at a skating rink when i was young this game was fun

  • There was no 32X in Europe, I don't think.

Damn - I'm collecting retro consoles - need to get onto Sega now.

  • @SuperNESFreak

Yes there was, but they were very expensive and still are to this very day, 32Xs go around for 80 - 100 pounds, some of the games go for over 100 as well.

  • For you, I would happily modify any car with a classic console. I'm not sure about the Vectrex though.

  • this now Out Run 2 out now just leting you know

  • unfortunatly I never had the original outrun, I did however have battle outrun (which plays nothing like the original... instead you have to ram target cars untill you disable them.)

  • haha the guy waving the flag reminds me of the bully from popeye the sailor man.

  • I just reciently got this version off of ebay

    AND IT ROCKS!!!

  • haha same here man, it was pretty hard to win to \m/

  • 2:17 OMG im gonna get eaten!

  • I realy REALY wish they woulp put the arcade version on the Wii virtual console

  • Mark you should play and review Outrun 2006 (it's for PS2, XBOX 1, PSP and PC). It's awesome. I've heard that the xbox one is the best version.

  • Amazing soundtrack! one of the best in videogame history.

Hey CGR, when you are going to review OUTRUNNERS for the genesis? that game has terrific music too.

I think I love outrun saga for his retro, dreamy and chill style, with that amazing soundtrack. It makes me want to dance :P

  • I actually work at a restaurant called Genesis.

Yet there's not a single Sega Genesis in sight :<

  • what about phil collins did you see him lol

  • @Nintendavin I once saw a restaurant that was called "Super Mario's", but I never saw Mario and Luigi there.

  • @Nintendavin Well, just because it's called a aweasome system doesn't mean it is based off it, could be based off the torah chapter "geniesis"+

  • @Ken10Ethan8 I know, it was a joke.

  • @Nintendavin Fail!

  • @Nintendavin I'm assuming songs from Justice don't play either.

  • @Nintendavin well you better change that

  • @Doctalen I haven't worked at Genesis for months.

  • @Nintendavin who cares kick down the front door an throw a sega at em

  • @Nintendavin Is there a jukebox that only plays Genesis tunes? :)

  • @Nintendavin Lame...they could have at least put a Sega arcade game in there :)

  • Brilliant game. I have the mame version. Bit hard using the keyboard to steer!

  • Out Run..Good memories!

  • I never played this game but it seems like it would be an influence on the Cruisin' games.. which I loved..

  • I had a weird PC clone of this, and I don't remember much of it, but I'm sure it was as awesome as this Sega version!

  • I played this game way back in 1991 on the Genesis. OMG the memories! I think I was only 7 years old then.

  • Great Conversion!

Excelente conversión, la jugabilidad es casi indentica al arcade. Claro, seguramente se preocuparon por hacerlo perfecto dado que es una maquina de Sega.

  • How many A.C. adaptors to get the Hyundai megadrive to go?

  • SEGA's awesome.

  • I think a comparison vs the arcade version would be of more use, to see how close it gets to the original. The comparison vs the Master System is interesting, too, however.

  • lol Sorry Mark, I don't even think Europe sell the Hyundai Genesis!

  • So I was playing this today and after the checkpoint sign the Afterburner jet flew overhead.

Has anyone else seen this before, it was on the road that had the mountains, flowers, and windmills.

  • in the outrun2 version there was a dragon,a reference to panzer dragoon series i thought that was sweet!

  • One curious thing about this version is that the roadside objects and cars actually look better than the arcade's, as they are redrawn at various sizes rather than scaled in and out (courtesy of the Genesis' underpowered graphics chip having no scaling ability). Thus, they look smooth and detailed even when close-up, whereas they tended to get a bit blocky in the arcade version. However, they moved so much more smoothly, so I won't be switching versions any time soon ...

  • in canada, i heard sometin like the mega drive gear or somthin. i also think that you can get a thing which you can play games!

  • Pretty sure you mean Canadia. :D

  • Canada?

  • This game took up so many hours of my younger life. I was so disappointed when Step on Beat didnt make it into the ps2 versions!

  • this game does everything a outrun game should do on a genesis, yes it is better on saturn, but in 1991 this was a awesome game.

  • YES! ive always wanted to play genesis in a genesis listenign to genesis

  • Outrun 2019

  • what, does it have the rainbow of aproval? LJN? or is it U.S gold?.

  • Can anyone say worlds most indestructible FERRARI!

  • What about the Saturn? Do all Saturn cars play Daytona USA?

  • this game IS atari's enduro updated

  • lol the boat store is exactly like mcdonald's: there's 500 of them really close to each other.

  • seizure run more like it

  • I think Outrun may have played a big part in determining Mark's music preferences later on in life.

  • You did not

  • aparently people dissagree :/

  • Comment removed

  • I think I saw the jet part when I had played it. I could've sworn that was something off of Galaxy Force.

  • I bought this at Play N Trade for about 5 dollars.

  • I just played a massive Arcade version of this game at the world sports grill. Pretty cool, but the afterburner machine was infinitely more fun.

  • I always pwned at this game in the arcade...

  • 7:15 i think thats what shes saying ''the chick:yo! dude! *poke in chest*

    the dude: wut?

    the chick:you got a boner.

  • i play this on the sega dreamcast (yu suzuki game works disc). AWESOME GAME!

  • This was a nice review, thanks.

  • Geez!! This video makes me want to go play my Genesis right now. I got this game off of eBay about a year ago. It was only $3.99 for the cart and the box however the shipping was lousy at $5.99...

  • I'm from Sweden so I'm used to km/h instead of mph but as I have played more american games I have statrting to get used to it. That will get kind of usefull (sorry for the spelling) when I hopefully move there when I'm don with school=)

  • my first game as a kid...

  • Why do people (Nintendo fanboys) knock the genesis's music abilities? It does techno, rock and metal really well. The SNES had the genesis in terms of synthesized/orcistrated music but the genesis did have really good music.

  • I like the Genesis sound chip, it depends on what game your playing to experience the full awesomeness it can really pump out.

I mean, imagine what Sonic the Hedgehog music would sound like on an SNES?

    *shudder*

  • Funny enough the sound chip for the genesis is the main processor for the Sega Master System, crazy huh? (for Model 1 anyway)

Well so I don't start an argument with fans of systems here, I think the Genesis has much better sound abilities than most people bash it for, it's just it doesn't do the same stuff as the SNES, both did their own styles of music well. When they tried to do what the other did it didn't work (Urban Strike on SNES anyone?)

  • Yeah, it's hard to make any comment on either system without the fanboys jumping all over it XD

Personally, I don't care what system I'm playing, as long as I'm having fun.

  • I don't care either honestly. The only thing that really will throw a wrench into it is if one version _runs_ better than the other, then I'll dive on that version, then again that's got little to do with the console again hehe.

  • Man, Passing Breeze is the song to go with.

  • Ferrari SEGA

  • hey mark, please learn how to correctly capture and encode videogame videos of 2D consoles. the interlacing of the two fields makes the video terrible to watch whenever objects next to the street pass you, which is like every 3 seconds. i'm disappointed that after 10 years of experience you still don't know about essential things like that.

  • oh man, how i used to play this over and over again. but to be fair, i never got to see that afterburner plane flying over. so how do i get to see that ?

  • I guess that doen´t happen , I think that he set this up .

  • 2:16 Those people should have had their brains splashed about the road, but they appear to be fine. Where's my violence, Sega? I'm disapointed in you.

  • This game came out before Grand Theft Auto made graphic violence mainstream, before violence made or broke games. :P

  • Sweet, sweet violence...^_^

  • You should really check out Out Run 2019

  • It hasn't changed much, except in the arcade and xbox (360) versions you are spending the majority of the time navigating through the side windows. Plus more cars, better graphics, and an online mode (X360) But the idea is the same.

  • i have something like that on my cell

  • Does Mark do this for a living?

  • did any one else get a seizure? or is it just me?

  • could have been better on the sega cd, had the sega cd supported 256 colours in-game

    not a bad port, though

  • Why is the sound on the Genesis/ megadrive so poor? Outrun on the Commodore Amiga looks identical, but the music is much much better.

    (looks at wikipedia)

Yamaha FM chip. Ahhh. The amiga used a PCM generator which provides better synthesis of sounds.

  • True, the Genesis didn't have fantastic sound, but it was servicable, and you can't deny that the music on some of its games were awesome. I try to keep everyone in the winner's circle when it comes to games. :D
