I'm 1/3 through Adam and I have to say that I really feel bad for Alex (I cheated and skipped to all the "articles") ...it was like the making of a miserable human being, someone who was capable of becoming what he had become. I have a feeling that the rest of the story will complicate these things though, as I know that free choices are always invovled with any kind of character development...
I finished this book last night. Hands, down, this was the scariest book ive ever read. Ive read Stephen king and walked away un-scared. Dekker blows King out of the water...for me at least. Im not one to get scared by books but i had to stop 6 different times to calm myself and tell myself that the story want real. The imagery thats portrayed is truely chilling. The slow build up, the backstory with Alex and Jessica and Alex's decent into darkness and the twist at the end, made the book great.
I can definitely understand being disturbed and needing the light on, but we also need to understand as christians that he who is in us is greater than he who is in the world, and that the devil has no power
Oh wow I've read that book Hostage to the Devil. It's in the trunk of my car haha. He's right the cases are very disturbing. Especially 'The Virgin and the Girl-Fixer'.
OHMIGOSH I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! it is one of my favorites! my top favs are Adam, Skin, and Obsessed! He has such a good message throught out his books!!!! House was great too, it really dived into hell with the light of "jesus" there. NEVER STOP KEEP MAKING BOOKS TED DEKKER!!!!!!!! and thr3e was great, I just love them all!!!!! but the movies really suck and don't capture the messags, but TED DEKKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Ted's books are good for non christians, cause they shock you by the reality of darkness so that you run into the light. I Identify a little too closely with some of his antagonists, because I was in love with satanic things when I was younger. Thank God I was redeemed from that. He expresses the darkness so well, sometimes I have to stop reading and examine myself because it reminds me of the past.
Is it a good idea for a usal non-fiction to read Adam..... Well my friend read Adam and when she tried to get to sleep she had a nightmare.... she comes running and screaming down the hallway shouting at the top at her lungs "Eve is coming for me!! Eve is coming for me!!"..... oops.... i guess it wasnt the best idea....
AndrewCWillis. the Isrealites were God's chosen people, anyone that stood in the way of them was doomed, if God would have just snapped his fingers and killed Pharoh, what kind of lesson would that be? not a good one. Then why not every time theres a sinner zap him away is what your saying. well then the earth would have no humans. This couldn't work, the Isrealites proved they couldn't be good enough, thats why God sent Jesus, the old testament is there to prove we can not be good enough.
I loved this book! This was the first Ted Dekker book i read. When I started reading it i thought it would be like any other crime thriller novel. Imagine my surprise :) Scared me but I loved it!!
I started reading Adam and I liked the characters. I think the dialouge is very rich. I havent got too far, but I'm debating if I should even read it because I know it's going to be laced in a stupid religious bs theme. I don't get why people can even beileve in a god that inspired a church to kill all non beilevers brutally without thought. That's how evil your religion is. That's why I'm debating even finsihing the book.
If you like it who cares? And since when is good vs. evil exclusive to bs religious themes? Better not watch most movies or read most thrillers because it's in a lot of them.
@magicabbie None of the kid thrillers idiot. How many books of great talent or movies thrillers like silence of the lambs hell even fucking lord of the rings deals with good vs evil and has NO religious themes to it. God religion is such bullshit.
@AndrewCWillis Do you even know how many Christians were killed for their faith? And Im not just talking about Romans and Gladiator arenas and but now, Christains are still killed and attacked for their faith. I dont deny that there're sick individuals who twist the Bible to fit their own digusting agendas. But how can say that my religion is evil? My faith teaches me to love and care for others whoever they are and I always know that there is a loving God who cares and loves me. Hardly Evil!
@wateva127 Okay listen up! . Religon makes people hate each other. Yes christains have died for their fucked up faith, but they have also killed millions for it. (The Crusades) Also god is evil. He killed many newborn babys in egypt just because he didn't like the ruler's slavery policy. That is a fact. Your god all loving and caring murdered babys as part of the 10 plaques. If a man were to kill over 50 babys would you call them hardly evil? Then why stick up
@AndrewCWillis Okay I see your point. But did you actually read the Scripture? The Israelities were in slavery . An entire race. ' didn't like the ruler's slavery policy.' thats just sick! The israelities were brutalised by the Egyptians. God gave the Pharoh 9 chances and warned about the 10th! Do you think God wanted to kill? He kept warning and pleading the Pharoh. but he was arrogant
@wateva127 Your argument is so flawed. The Pharoh was a bad guy sure. God was warning him sure, but did god really have to fucking kill a bunch of babys?!?!? THAT MAKES NO SENSE WHAT SO EVER!. He could have killed the Pharoh with a snap of his fingers. Such bullcrap he obviously wanted to kill those kids. God is a psychopath. There is a million different ways to fix the slavery problem then fucking kill babys. Kill the Pharoah? Oh no becuase killing hundreds of babys is alot funner? Lol rlly
@AndrewCWillis The Pharoh was a bad guy?! Thats an understatement, what about all the babies he killed? Dont those children matter? Yes God killed those Eygptian children but who defended those Israelite children when they were murdered? You are only seeing what you want to see. You cant pick and choose what you read from the Bible. God is a God of love and compassion but he is also a God of justice.
@wateva127 You are pissing on your own shoes. I am not picking and choosing earlier comments I've said TWO WRONGS DOESN'T MAKE A RIGHT! The Pharoh may have been a baby killing bastard, but what did your LOVING CARING god do? You slaughtered innocent newborns. That is evil. There is NO FUCKING JUSTICE IS KILLING INNOCENT NEW BORNS. If you disagree with that all caps statement you are so blind in your radical faith that you have lossed all sense of morals. You are eternally lost to your false god
@wateva12 Okay I rushed that last comment and had alot of grammatical errors. I have said in earlier comments two wrongs doesn't make a right prooving I do not pick and choose from your bible. When there is a baby killing Tyrant you kill the Tyrant you do not for no reason kill innocent babies that Tyrant doesn't give two shits about. You are defending baby murder. THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN THE SLAUGHTER OF HUNDREDS OF NEWBORN BABIES. You disgust me.
@AndrewCWillis Ted Dekker is a Christian author. I don't recommend you comment on his videos using profanity. For the sake of our younger readers, and concerned Christian mothers that read Dekker, I encourage you keep it clean! (It's an encouragement, NOT a demand)
@wateva127 Let me re-word if a man were to brutally murder over 50 babys because he wanted to stop some mild form of slavery would you stick up for him? Is that the right way to handle problems? Your god has proove through his actions that he is equal to a bloodthirsty opinionated murderer. He killed many just over 50 of new born babys. That is sick. Period. Hardly Evil? If you'd like I could give you scripture in which god orders you his followers to kill? I have evidence supporting my claims.
I actually got this book for my birthday last week; haven't read it yet though. I did see the book Ted talked about in my bookstore though. I'll get it later. "Hostage to the Devil" by Father Malachi Martin.
OMG...i just read this book and it is amazing...if you have any interest in the supernatural (demons, excorcism, etc.)...this is a great read...i was pulled in from page 1...disturbing but very intuitive
