American Football has stayed at 49% for decades now. The Highest rated show in the United States.

In fact No show has ever been over 50% in 61 years, but One.

That's right, "Star Trek Next Generation" in 1991 got 51%

It's the only time it ever happened.

That says a lot about how hopeful we all were.

Reading posts about 'Trekkies' shows me some ugly sides of human nature. Is a Star Trek obsession really any worse than a football obsession? Is it any worse to decorate your room with Star Trek stuff than with football posters and signed shirts? The difference is only numbers- More people like football. To be so venomous to a group of people just because they enjoy a TV show is pathetic.

@TheJohnGray Well I suppose I agree, and I think people should be able to enjoy whatever they wish - but I think at least with football it changes and it's a continuing on going thing; with the fascination with a television show it gets to a point when it cannot continue and something about having an avid obsession (to the point where it is your whole life) about something years after it's been over seems a little unhealthy to me. But whatever it's their own life.

In EVERYTHING, there are total freaks. Several people have Weird Al tats, they love him so much. A young boy is obsessed with vacuum cleaners. People who fill their entire home with candy/Elvis/soap opera memorabilia/stamps/coins/train­s etc. There are also a lot of us who have no desire to go to a con or dress up and who simply enjoy Star Trek. See "Free Enterprise" and "Galaxy Quest". Those are fairer and funnier depictions of fan life. These movies show the worst of the worst. FIJAGDH!

I really enjoy the shows, I really enjoy the movies, I really enjoy the concept, and I really hope star trek will approach truth some day..

But this is getting over board!

I am a fan, I allow myself things like novels, and an odd model or poster... But when people spend their entire day, their entire life, wearing a uniform, believing the science, not being able to separate truth from fiction.. It saddens me.
