  • Very good. You have a passion for it and you explain it well. My gongrats for your hobby. Greetings

  • Great job

  • The other thing I would also recommend is setting your anvil to a more proper height . (arm hanging down , closed fist just reaching the face )otherwise you will get a pretty sore back. Most old blacksmith have wrecked elbow and tendons from using the wrists too much

  • Think of it :D make a club - find a stick , make a club whit spikes - find a stick and find nails. you see ? the progress in making things is more complicated as time go on, make a "Pila " and you have to use flames and metal and tools. make a gun.. oh lord :P

  • dude u have safety glasses on ur head, thay are designed to go over ur eyes, u would regret that of a spark hit u in the eye, think about it man.

  • this inspired me to make a pilum like the romans did i`ll have a vid on it soon right at the moment i have vids of a different pilum

  • this inspired me to make a pilum like the romans did i`ll have a vid on it soon

  • Its Pilum and not Pila

  • Thanks for the video! I am in the process of making my own, I know this is an old vid, but I was wondering how the heck you got your tang so squared off....

  • was that a claw hammer?......dude!

  • you are a good teacher. it takes one to know one. thank you. would you consider selling your handiwork?

  • nevermind, i found your sales page.

    Thanks!

  • Cool! I am going to run downstairs to my little smithy and try it out myself now!

  • you gotta get a real hammer dude , not a carpenter hammer...

  • Whats wrong with using a claw for smithing occasionally? I actually use the back edge for making indents on certain types of spears. I have a bunch of ball peens, but for the same weight hammer theres nothing wrong with it.

  • Ok i'll give that one to you , good reason . You are actually quite precise in your work . Keep us posted

  • looks like u use non proffessional equipment (except the anvil)

  • I think you would definately have to say that my tools are non professional. I tihnk the only money i've really invested in the hobby was buying the fan and hoses for it, buying new steel occasionally and I finally broke down and bought some low smoke coal. I want some serious tools, but i don't make enough money off it to justify it.

  • @WdsmnBob

I barely put any money into it all and I have professional tools. Just look for the right hardware stores and you'll see you can get the right hammers for basically nothing. And when it comes to thongs, you can make them yourself.

  • I use lots of recycled materials as well but I also make all my tools, you should be able to make and temper your own hammers, thats the only way you will get a huge collection of them . They are not worth buying if you know about tool making .

  • You should make your own tools , you will save money and get better quality than what you could buy . Thats the only way you will get a huge collection of them. I also use lots of recycled materials. There is tons of good tool steel around for pretty cheap.

  • @WdsmnBob I think you got a great result anyway! Also, at the dawn of time i guess people didnt have much better tools than yours so thats even a greater prove youve done a good job!

  • @WdsmnBob try getting tools at estate sales...just bought a box of 15 hammers for 11 bucks.

  • @WdsmnBob what weight is the hammer?

  • @948montcalm

Yeah I totally agree...also he definately needs to learn to hit the iron straight and equally instead of abusing the iron.

  • sounds like part of the "fight of the valkerey" (sp)and "sharpening" the tip is called tapering and "separating" the tip is called shouldering

  • wow he makes it look really easy

  • Nice forge! cool setup.

    and great video!

  • I've heard that portion of music so many times but no one ever seems to know what it's called. What is it exactly and where did that particular rendition come from?

  • @elementc Its from a Operatic Work, Verdi's Requiem. I know because we sang it as a choir. That particular part in the video is from the section of the Requiem called Dies Eire.

  • @theflyingmusician1 Haha, thanks. I asked that two years ago and long since figured it out though. :P

  • @elementc Haha fair do :D What a spectacular piece it is too!!

  • very very nice.

  • Great work, excellent instruction.
